The Hotel Faro was a three minute walk from the train station, all in a very safe area. All was modern and clean with an excellent breakfast in the top floor (4th floor) dining room with an excellent view over the main plaza plus an outside balcony. The hotel also had an excellent evening dinner menu. Faro is not a beach town but it is very pleasant and picturesque. The receptionist spoke excellent Engllish.

This appeared to be one of the nicest areas in Faro, on the waterfront. The hotel was nice and clean and the rooms were good.

An excellent location in terms of views and local colour with its drawbacks: noise of Saturday night revellers in the bars at the square. Beautiful view of Ria Formosa marshes from the restaurant, good food and a really rich breakfast. I could do without the omnipresent background muzak, or at least have some more variation, and the carpets on the third floor look shabby and are inadequate for a place where people go to the beach and bring in a lot of sand. It is a place to have breakfast all day!

Central location, overlooking the marina. Steps to old town and shopping streets. Nice rooftop restaurant for breakfast. The staff were particularly welcoming and helpful in pointing out sights and attractions.

Nice hotel, best, but VERY NOISY location overlooking the main square and port...noise from youths partying, and although we were on the top floor for accomodation (the 3rd.) it was impossible to sleep even with double glazed windows closed. Hotel provided the best breakfast we've found anywhere in the world but...usually no clean tables available though the hotel was only 30-40% occupied, Two unfriendly waiters gave little or no service and NEVER cleared dirty dishes away though we always left a couple of euros on the table each morning hoping for even a smile or nod of recognition not to mention possibly a "Good morning" Great, clean room, excellent chamber-maids but Oh!!! who on earth selected white carpets for the entire hotel, WHITE...even for the corridors...naturally they had dirty feet marks and runways from luggage being rolled back and forward by each and every customer!!! Access for the disabled (we're not) and elderly (we are) is by a steep staircase WITHOUT RAILS from the street to the front entrance!!! True there is a side entrance slope but no sign telling guests and we discovered it two or three days later. Reception sat and watched we two seniors struggling up the staircase with our bags though they have a video screen which shows ALL in front of them. (NO...they don't have a hall porter) Would we stay there again? Maybe... knowing that the room, breakfast and location are great and knowing of the 'easy access' but, be warned...NO STAFF, No Quiet, no service and...one over-worked receptionist. make sure to allow an hour to check out and pay your bill.

It was our first time in Faro. The area is beautiful, the location is convenient if you want to visit the Algarve, but the hotel is not, definitely not, a 4 star hotel as advertized. There were hair everywhere: in the shower - even in the so-called sterilized glass in the bathroom -, on the tablecloth at breakfast, etc. The shower curtain was hanging wrongly, the curtain in the bathroom was disgusting, the white carpeting in the hallways was all stained, etc. The only nice things were the white storks nesting in front of our window and a the roof terrasse, when we were attending by a friendly waiter and waitress.

The employees of the concierge are very nice. They explained us about the most beautiful beaches around Faro. Our room on the 2nd floor was too small and the landscape is very poor. Around the hotel there is a large plaza very crowded and very noisy: it's difficult to go sleeping early in the night! The breakfast is quite good, but there are a few tables to use.

I stayed one night at this hotel on a business trip to Portugal and found out it is a good buy (84 euro per night). This hotel has excellent location, overlooking the marina and Faro monument. The monument is just within 5-10 minutes walking distance. Located in the heart of shopping area, it is convenient for shoppers. However, some street noise may penetrate into the room (which is the only minus I had). The shops are closed at 5-6 pm so at least the noise did not bother me at night. The receptionist is polite and knowledgeable. She gave me good suggestion on where to go during my limited time there. She also arranged the restaurant personnel to deliver my breakfast to my room at 9 pm for my early departure the next morning. The restaurant located at 4th floor offers great view and excellent food too. I will stay at this hotel next time I visit Faro.

We (grandparents, parents, baby) have stayed at the Faro Hotel in 2006 and 2008 and will go back there again when travelling to the Algarve. Service is excellent, the rooms are very clean, the hotel is in an excellent location when passing through Faro. We stayed in the same room facing a small side street, which is very quiet.

Very modern hotel with a bit odd architecture and difficult-to-find stairs. No "fire instructions" in the room. Most central hotel in Faro. Interesting boat trips in the National Park, esp. those with birdviewing and competent guides.

The hotel is at an excellent location; right in the heart of town. We were even more impressed by the interior design of the hotel. The furniture is modern but tasteful and all the artwork are quality originals (not tacky fakes!) Breakfast is FABULOUS - a 5-Star buffet(not just breakfast!)that would've been a $30-50.00 deal in the US! Most appreciated was excellent FRESH smoked salmon, fresh vegetables and fruits, etc. Also it's served on the 4th floor that has a huge balcony with great views of the city and the harbor. The hotel manager is extremely knowledgeable and gave excellent information! Also, I requested a view room looking out to the harbor and got it - w/o paying extra! This would also be an excellent hotel for corporate conferences, motivational meetings. Faro is a truly unique city and I did NOT miss the beach (e.g., Albufeira) at all!

The Hotel Faro is an excellant Hotel which is not matched by the staff. However the hotel and the surroundings more than make up for them!! The hotel is in a good location in that it's close to the train station, nightlife and cafe bars and shops of which you will find all the major brands. The taxi from the airport takes 10 mins and should not cost more than 10Euros.

Good, clean hotel close to Faro centre. A bit soulless, but the room was clean and comfortable, with a good view over the sea and with a stork's nest outside the window for company! The arrangement of street door, lift and reception desk means that one gets very little interaction with staff unless you need to ask something. Restaurant serves an excellent breakfast - probably a good dinner too, but there are more characterful restaurants in the town.

This is a modern, business-type hotel with a slightly impersonal feel but nevertheless perfectly pleasant. Only a couple of rooms face onto the harbour - we had 232 which did and we had the bonus of an eye level view of a heron's nest on the lamp standard in front of the hotel. The drawback of facing the harbour was that there was quite a lot of noise all night - not too good for light sleepers.

We had booked a junior suite for 4 people and were absolutely delighted by the superb and modern suite we were offered. Great accomodations. It is a pity Faro is so boring...
