Tough night trying to sleep. The mattress was an ancient,blue & white striped, stained, lumpy, hard nightmare. The sheets were stiff & itchy. The room was stuffy with a funny odor. To get air, you had to open the window and of course let in a lot of street noise, and street light. Had the mattress permitted sleep, it would have been a good place for a night's rest before moving on to a full day of sight seeing. Instead, exhausted, we watched the clock all night, counting the minutes for the torture to end. It is an excellent location for seeing Edinburgh, handy to the railroad station, tour buses & moving on to a better night somewhere else.

It was a shock to walk up hill from train station to find a narrow entry door with many stairs leading into the hotel (not pictured in photo). Thank goodness there was a bell for the porter to carry luggage the 2 additional flights into hotel lobby. Room was very clean, but small (no drawers or closets for clothes). Bathroom new but toilet could only be flushed 1x an hour as it took that long to fill holding tank. Breakfast @ 7.95 lbs. was certainly not worth it. Better to go across street to "Jenner's" dept. store. Did not try any other meals in the hotel. Restaurant and lobby needs refreshing. Location of the hotel good for walking out into the hustle/bustle of Edinburgh city. Quite a walk to the more quaint historic area "Market Street" and Edinburgh Castle. Staff not terribly organized. Right hand does not seem to know what the left hand is doing. Not very informative about hotel services.

the best of the hotel is the location: very easy to reach almost every place in edimburgh. We had no meals, only two breakfast but it was surely good. No problem with the staff and the room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Very good about all.

Very close to the terminal bus stop from airport, the localization is excellent to visit Edinburgh by foot!

We loved Edimburg and the hotel is located near to station which was easy to arrive also we have the sightseeing bus tour stop in front of the station too and the airport bus stop is in the same place. So the hotel is located in a practical place.

Old Waverley Hotel offers 85 guest rooms with climate control. Satellite TV channels and pay movies provided in each room are great for unwinding at the end of a long day. Business travelers will have access to safes and direct-dial phones during their New Town visit.
Bathrooms are outfitted with complimentary toiletries. Trouser presses and coffee/tea makers are supplied in each room to facilitate basic travel needs. Rooms also include windows that open and extra towels/bedding.
