The Place was a nice place to stay. However, being Summer the underground room we stayed was hot. The proprietors may consider introducing some cooling for some of the rooms in hot periods.

Extremely polite staff. Ready to help. Clean. Good safe area. Our room was rather small. They didn't change sheets during our 4 days stay.

The shower was too small! I had trouble entering and exiting. The shower controls were a bit hard to complicated especially when you are already in the shower and want to change them.

Albeit I was a single person had I seen the size of the room I would have paid more to go elsewhere. Also the WIFI is very poor, practacially zero in some parts of the hotel. the girl on reception and the two staff who were on breakfat as good as I have seen in any hotel over past 30 years, the hotel is lucky to have them as staff.Without a doubt they could all work in a five star hotel. All about location particularly for one with hip problems. 100 yards from bus station ; 100yards from John Lewis and200 yards from Playhouse Theatre which we visited on three consecutive evenings.

Only comment is the lighting system which caused problem in both rooms booked. The lights in the rooms failed twice which was annoying at the time and had to be attended to by hotel staff ( fuse problems). This was done promptly, however the lighting circuit needs urgent attention otherwise guests will be inconvenienced and put off future stays.

Excellent Hotel, but if you have difficulty climbing stairs, ask for low floor room as there are no lifts.

A nice hotel in a good location. The room was small. The bathroom was badly lit, too dark. The grouting in the shower needed cleaning / replacing. The bedroom was clean and comfortable. When we asked for a shower cap we were told to leave it with them but no shower cap arrived!! The staff were otherwise friendly and helpful and the breakfasts delicious.

The room was spacious and excellent apart from the fact that the heavy traffic outside made sleeping challenging. With ear-plugs the problem was solved.

Two issues : (1) this is a historical building and eventhough it is beautifully restored and furnished, there is no elevator. Were were on third floor(and ceilings are quite high). When I book the room, this was not stated. Next time I make sure I don't have the same floor... (2) Although windows were double-glazed, it was like we were sleeping in the street. We didn't bother much because at home (Paris) we are used to street noise (much lower level though) and we were exhausted after touring Edinburgh. Next time I wiil require not having a room on street side. It is really a shame because everything else is top level. Note : room very large but bathroom very tiny, with no separate toilets.
