We Booked a room priced at £60 per night, for this we had room only with a shared bathroom. I didn't think that the price was bad until we arrived and were shown to our room. Basic was an understatement! The bedding had holes in, the mattress had springs practically sticking through it and there was a distinct lack of plug sockets, 2 in total, one for a bedside lamp and one in the form of an extension cable (found usually on building sites) with a limescale covered kettle attached. There was no hairdryer provided in the room and only 1 medium size towel was provided making hairwashing and drying quite a difficult task. The towels were frayed around the edges, but were surprisingly soft. The shared bathrooms weren't dissimilar to those found in museums showcasing the best of the 70's household designs. Cracked sinks, hair covered bath mats and broken toilet roll holders were just a few bad assets. Unfortunately, for the money, this 'hotel' is over priced. Would I stop there again? NO. Would I recommend it to others? NO. Sadly this hotel does not do such a beautiful city justice.

On the website don't mention the extra taxes who wont to pay with card (credit or debit).Wrong! The room was very dirty with no space to put the clothes (the coathangers was suspended on the small cabinet who have TV). At the entrance of Merith House the heating works but on the room didn't work during the two night we stayed. Only just one hour at 7p.m before breakfast. We found the kettle full with dirty water. The door handle of the toilet is broken, with a sharp screw (hurt me to open the door). To close the door is necessary hard work to do it (room n.7). Not recommended at all.

The hotel is more a bed and breakfast than really an hotel. You have the main key to enter, as there is no reception on duty. Rooms are small and don´t have place to put your luggage or to hang clotes (more suited to a short overnight or stop). The rooms were clean, recently painted (covered by wall paper) and the same for the furniture, bed clothes and common areas. Breakfast is continental. The main drawback is the wifi internet, that has not a strong signal to be connected from the rooms (at least part of them), which imposes staying in the 1st floor (stairs) or breakfast room (used by night to dry washed clothes and towels).

Hotel Merith House is an excellent buy for the price. The rooms are clean and neat. There are bus stops right in front of the hotel for buses that take you to the old town. My stay was fine, and when I return to Edinburgh, I will stay there again.

The hotel charged 2% on the price since I payed by credit card. The room is very small and without any furniture!!! Only chair and bed!!! Besides...and that it's unbelievable!!! I booked on line by my credit card and it's regolar to pay so. When we arrive to the hotel the chairman asked me the 2% more of the price booked!!!! I never more book by venere since I think it' not correct this!!! Best regards.

Buona struttura, ottimo rapporto qualita/prezzo. Personale cordiale e disponibile.

The staff was helpful, and the breakfast was good. This is pretty much only positive thing we have to say about this B&B. I spent at least 30 minutes to find the location, asking local people for assistance, however even they din't recognize its location on the map since half of the streets were missing. It was very foolish not to print out a google map. The room was very small and old. I had to put on a t-shirt to lay on a bed since the sheets didn't look perfectly clean. We stayed in the Cairn Hotel the other night and liked it much better.

At the begining I was very pleased but first night in room no 1 I was bitten by bed-bug. In the middle of the night I asked for another room. I was given room no 3 which was ok. I asked for apologies and/or discount according to the situation but was told no. The rest like food was ok.

After the more positive description on their webside we expected something much better. Not the best district to stay, hotel and interior not even well-kept, equipment outworn, loud, the offered twin was really ugly and small. We would not stay a second time there and think one get better accommodation in town for the same price.

The is far from the center, more than I expected. It takes about 15-20 minutes with a bus that takes you directly infront of the place, not that bad. The problem is that the bus doesn't arrive that often and there are only 2 lines (11 and 25). The property's owners are very nice people. Breakfast is good. The bed wasn't tat comfortable.

I got a very cheap room and a twin for the price of a single, not the best matress in the world, but the room was absolutely fine, clean and secure. Not the best area of town, but I didn't get any problems on a saturday night, and nice views across a park. About 25 mintues walk from the city centre, but well connected by bus. Very welcoming staff, bargain at the price. Would definately stay again. Oh, and good breakfast.

Hotels in Edinburgh are inordinately expensive and this is one of the cheaper ones at £35 per night, but the building, decoration, fittings & furniture are very tired. My (small) bedroom had just bare light bulbs, without shades, in the bedroom & en-suite. Nice fried breakfast with good quality ingredients, though.

Es una casa particular, grande, más o menos limpia. Lo mejor de todo es el personal. La dirige una pareja (Sr. y Sra.) que nada más llegar nos informó de todo, sin preguntarles nada. Our hosts were extremely graciaous. All considerations were made for my 89 year old Mother. The problem with European accommodations is not necessarily the extremely expensive cost per room, but the mattress upon which you sleep - poor quality and very uncomfortable. For the same money paid excellent quality rooms can be secured in the states, but for some reason - no matter where in Europe, mind you, the beds are just of poor quality. There was no public area other than the breakfast room which is accessed down a spiral staircase that could be difficult for anyone with an incapacity. Overall, though, Mertle and Jean went out of their way to provide the best service one could expect.
