This was an excellent hotel, handily close to Haymarket station and Modern Art Galleries. We particularly appreciated the quietness, the views towards and beyond the Firth of Forth, the friendliness of the staff, and the qualities of the building itself.

I staied very large room with one large bed and one small bed by myself. The scenery from the window was wonderful. I could watch the sea over the houses of Edinburgh. And I could watch the sunset. I regrered to say there was not bathtub.

Though this hotel is a little bit far from the station, very nice place to stay. Especially breakfast was good.

We could not find the hotel from the train station with the map. Providing better directions would be useful. Otherwise, everything was great!

A bit hard to find for a Yank, but I was very impressed with the size and cleanliness of our room. A much better experiance than hotels I've stayed in at London and Oxford.

I love the city of Edinburgh having lived there for 7 months I love to return. It has a great history built on top of an old Edinburgh city, the magnificent castle and I also love to shop on Princes Street.

This is a great hotel on a beautiful square. It used to be a house and you can still feel like you are in a luxury house. It is very genuine and friendly. I didn't feel like I am in a hotel or in sort of business at all, I felt more like a guest in a beautiful property. It is not in the old town but you can walk to the new and old town just in 15 minutes and it is a beautiful walk. The breakfast was very generous. And please don't forget to visit the library on the first floor. I just wished I could stay more.

We loved the hotel: the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff; the wonderful breakfast; the proximity of the town center. The hotel is a lovely, old home, with beautiful woodwork and a treat to stay in.

The melvin house was beautiful and quiet. The only complaint I have is that the beds were so lumpy and uncomfortable.

The hotel was ideal for what I was after. Close to sites and areas to visit, yet away from the main tourist strip. The facilities were excellent.

A very pleasant stay in a lovely old town house, situated within walking distance of the heart of Edinburgh. Surprisingly quiet at night considering its proximity to the city centre ! Friendly atmosphere.
