Stayed at Apex International whilst on a short break in Edinburgh. Very impressed. Friendly staff, main hotel and rooms clean and comfortable. Two huge beds with pillows you sink into. Room was slightly too warm at night, but there is a fan provided if required. Great location, bars and restaurants within walking distance, but not right on your doorstep where there's a tendency of experiencing unwanted noise at night. Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle within walking distance, as was train station and bus routes for venturing further afield. Would definitely stay here again.

Had a lovely stay at this hotel, we were given a free room upgrade on arrival to Superior room with beautiful Castle views and the room was not short of space or comfort. Only little niggle being that the furniture in the room looked to have been moved and felt awkward and that the arm chair had a slight tear on it. Bathroom was wonderful and staff brilliant. Will definately use this hotel again.

I booked this hotel as part of a gift for my mum and dads birthdays and they were over the moon with the hotel. Prior to ariving I made arragements to pay for the parking and leave a gift card for them to use in the restaurant and the staff who assiasted me couldn't have been more helpful. They also upgraded them to a better room and provided complimentry drinks. On returning from their stay my parents said all the staff were relly welcoming and cheerful, the room they stayed in was lovely and the food in the Heights Restaurant was delicious. I am really pleased I booked the Apex International and would definately recommend to others.

Excellent service, facilities and location only slight downside was the chair and table in the room was a bit scuffed and tatty but still well worth the price they charge.

My only complaint was that we asked for a quite room and were put directly above the patio where there was a party the first night and people were out there talking the second night.

Apparently a long technical probelm with the swimming pool should be explained before we asked ??

In general everything was excellent except the automatic key card for the rooms. Every day we had to change more than one time the card, it means to go up and down to the desk and ask for a new one.

My Friend and I had a lovely weekend away as an early birthday celebration we were warmly greeted and although it was only about 11am the receptionist advised us that one of our rooms was ready and we could check in. This was welcome as we were able to dump our cases and get going to our break in Edinburgh, sun was even shining. We were also delighted to find a lovely bottle of wine and a card. Thank you this was very much appreciated. All staff that we came into contact with during our stay were cheery, polite and competant. Our evening meal in the "Heights" restuarant was sublime from the amouse busch to desert and coffee...Excellent mmmmm PS The Elemis Products and Apex the Duck - Also sooo fab :)

Excellent hotel, fantastic room (Twin standard) with lovely view to the castle, fantastic beds, great welcome, helpful and nice staff that listen to your comments before arrival. Easy to arrive from Waverly Bridge (10 minutes walk) where you drop off from bus 100 arriving from airport. Just a bit noisy area, but you're at the very centre of town. You can walk everywhere. We slept as babies cause we were very tired at the end of the day. Don't doubt it, it's a perfect choice.

We booked this stay for our parents' 40th wedding anniversary and made a note in the booking requesting, if possible, a room with a castle view to make it a special stay. The hotel management did very well by giving them one of the best rooms with a view of the castle, a greeting card in the bedroom and complimentary drinks. This made their stay extra special and made the difference. Our parents were really happy with the hotel and the staff, who were very polite, friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel was also excellent and we would definitely return in a future visit to Edinburgh

Liked the laid back feel of the hotel with welcoming staff who were helpful when required but not overbearing. Breakfast was excellent with superb view of Edinburgh castle from the top floor dining room and a major bonus of the hotel. Swimming pool and gym area nice and simple and suited us with the pool having a good view of the castle, but would not suit people who require full spa facilities and treatments. Our room was at the back and was quiet but i imagine front rooms with views of the castle receive some traffic noise. Good location for visiting the castle and lyceum theatre area.

We had such a lovely three-night stay at the Apex International that we were sorry to leave. The hotel is right in the centre of the old town, so very handy for sightseeing and not too far from the station (less than £5 by taxi.) Room was very spacious with all the facilities you could want - and TWO large double beds. It was very comfortable. The restaurant and the bistro were very good, imaginative food which suited us both (one vegetarian, one not). The view of Edinburgh Castle from the restaurant is quite stunning - being on the 5th floor you are practically parallel. Staff were really superb in all parts of the hotel - nothing was too much bother and they made you feel welcomed and as if they really cared about your comfort and enjoyment. Only slight downside is that the bathrooms are quite small, and difficult if you have any mobility problems, but other than that, superb.

room was located on first floor at front of hotel, very noisey all day and especially at night, tried to sleep with window shut second night but as no air con in hotel room was finally forced to open window, more noise equals very poor sleep

Location of the hotel was perfect for our needs. When we arrived we learned that our room was situated at the back of the hotel, and so we upgraded without a problem to a front of building room, overlooking the Castle. The room was long a with two double beds!!! The space between the end of the bed and the console area quite narrow if there are two of you and one is using the computer etc, so I'm not sure if the room could be re-arranged to better suit this. Our upgrade cost us £40 per night for the two of us. This brought our bill up to £500 for 3 nights stay, but still breakfast was not included. I do think that that is not very good value for money.

My friend left a message in the reception that she needed gluten free bread for breakfast. They could only provide this on one out of three breakfasts! But the service was good and the employees at the restaurants excellent. I'm deeply interested in Scottish history, and had heard nice reviews of Edinburgh as a city from friends. I was not disappointed!
