Location can't be better, chic and upmarket very nice entrance to hotel, bar great to have a drink, city fantastic, and yes everybody is truly friendly in this city, its really enchanting, my only disappointment was with a lady at the concierge that really left a bitter taste in my mouth, she really put me off with her insincerity, I complained her to the manager who was most professional and appropriate and apologetic and dealt with the problem instantly its amazing how everybody in the hotel is trying their best and one person can ruin it for everyone, other than that I highly recommend this hotel and this city its on my top 3 for sure

A nice old historic hotel in an excellent location. As such it is a popular choice for weddings and conferences. Accordingly it can be noisy and busy. We were initially in an older room that looked onto an alleyway with dumpsters that staff from nearby restaurants regularly threw empty bottles in. Moreover, it was exceedingly noisy with very loud music from a wedding below which made sleep impossible and was contrary to my pre-booking request for a quiet room with a nice view. On bringing our concerns to the staff they offered a change of room. The night manager (Douglas - I think), and day manager Ewa were both very helpful. We moved into a newer wing of the hotel which was much better and quieter. It was interesting to discover that hotels in the UK don't seem to have minibars for cold water to drink. In trying to meet guest needs the hotel provided cold bottled water daily to our room. An excellent location for seeing Edinburgh which was a wonderful city to visit. There was a choice of bars and cafes nearby if you didn't want to eat at the hotel whose food could be improved for interest, quality, and value. So I would recommend The George hotel Edinburgh, and recommend you request a room in the new wing; visit not over a weekend when it can get busy; and don't include the breakfast with your booking and hope that you have as nice a visit to Edinburgh and The George as we did.
