This is not a hotel for people past the age of 25 years old. While it is perfectly located, the bar located underneath the hotel is very loud till very late at night. Also, the breakfast room smelled of stale beer in the morning. The TV never worked and the room was way to warm.

Excellent Location for all the main visitor attractions. Rooms are basic and decor quite shabby, you also have to pay for parking at a local car park (you do get 20% discount) so factor this into the price. At the time we received breakfast as part of the room cost which made it worthwhile, not it's maybe steep on a room only basis. On the whole though served the purpose we needed it for and location was a big bonus in a quieter part of the city yet 10 mins walk from the castle.

The hotel is very difficult to find. It is on Cowgate Street, but on a different level than the main streets, and accessible only by the small alleyways called "closes". It is a few blocks from the Royal Mile, but the neighborhood is very seedy after dark. The hotel keeps a security guard at the entrance to the property after dark. My printed reservation said that breakfast was included in the rate, but the front desk would not honor it. The beds were very hard and squeaked with any movement. The pillows were the thinnest I have every seen. The website says that the rooms offer LCD panel TVs, on-demand movies and free broadband access in every room. In reality, there is a small flat panel TV mounted on the wall near the ceiling that gets only 4 channels clearly (BBC1, etc). There is no broadband access or movie service. The front desk staff always seemed to be hiding in the back somewhere, and did not provide wake up calls on two occasions. The temperature of the room was fine for November with the radiator, but I would not want to stay here in the summer as the window will only open about 2 inches.

A bit difficult to find as I walked from the station - Its a short walk but Tailors Hall is on a street bellow others with bridges over it. Bar was busy and noisy (it was weekend) but I had a room at the back so could not hear this. Room was clean compact but adequate. Only complaint was lack of free shampoo and soap in bathroom as I had just arrived via plane and Train and could not find a shop nearby with these. Otherwise OK and would use it again if in Edinburgh as it is central clean and reasonably priced.
