I have very good impression about the high cost perfomance. The water volume of toilet and shower were nothing to criticize, and sheets of bed was clean, and the central heating was enough. As only the drainage of shower had problem, I noticed. But they solved in same day. The robby and restaurant had good atomosphere. I would like to stay if I have chance.

The hotel was a short walk from Waverly Station but I reccomment hiring a cab for the trip from the station. We found the hotel to be worn but comfortable and enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is located close to the Princess Street just 10 walking minutes away from Edinburgh Waverly Station. This is a great plus. The offered service is good value for money the restaurant offers a good choice of continetal and Scottish breakfast. Some rooms got new bathroom interieurs others have a early 90s standard. If you want to explore Most of the main attractions in Edinburgh and don't want to spent a fortune for your stay this is your choice. I would like to extend my destinct compliments to Stuart who staffed the bar and reception at night.

Booked a double room for 4 nights, only to find myself in a palatial room with three beds and a better bathroom than I have at home! Was a treat to have so much space and myself and my partner really made sure I enjoyed it. Beds and bedding weren't amazing but did the job - only disappointment really was the lack of TV channels in the room, we only had terrestrial reception!

Very wellcome and nice staff, breakfast is a bit overpriced at 9.50 pounds for Scottish breakfast, considering 2 mins. down the road you get a more substantial one for only 2.79!! Overall, location is ideal in a quita and secure area very close to all amenities.

We were well pleased with this hotel. It is basic, but clean and more than adequate for our needs. The location is excellent, an easy walk to major sites, and right by a bus stop for those who want to minimize their walking. We were impressed with the quietness of the street. WiFi worked well and was free, which is certainly not universally true at UK hotels.

The hotel is situated in a optimal place for visiting Edinburgh with a good price; 15' min to Royal Mile with Carlton Hill very close. Near also to Hertz (picardy place) for hiring a car.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Ample breakfast provided in a pleasant area. Our room faced the garden, which was green and luxurious, a big plus for we travelers from Arizona. Also near theater district, restaurants and bus routes. We would recommend this hotel. Could have used a shelf of some kind IN the shower.

Good location. Ok facilities. Unwelcoming, unfriendly, unreasonable staff. No respect for privacy: walking into the room without knocking or warning. Abusive: they wouldn't give us a room (booked months in advance) before 2.30pm. Then the next morning they force us (rudely) to evacuate by 11am.

Overall I had a pleasant stay in this hotel. However I didn't think the quality of the hotel matched the price. I stayed in two different rooms while there. The double room was much nicer and cleaner than the single room i stayed in but I paid more when staying in the single room.

The hotel is located in a very central area, but despite this the room was very quiet, only a bit small, but ok. The staff was very nice and welcoming. The only thing we can complain about was that the hot water tap did not work very well, but apart from that we had no problems whatsoever. I think that Hotel Cairn has a pretty good price/quality ratio. I recommend it if you want a quiet place that's also within walking distance from the centre.

Will be back to Edinburgh for sure. Location of this hotel is excellent. Easy to find and thankfully not too far from everything. Room was very spacious and light. Much appreciated generous Tea & Coffee facilities in room. Bathroom spotless. Not too keen on the very noticeable damp patch beside main window in room. Understandable for a building of it's time to show some signs of dilapidation but certainly not for the business that is now making money there. Just 5 TV channels was a bit of a shock. Never made breakfast. Great city to visit. Heartily recommend Browns brasserie for brunch though.

We had a nice, big family room for one adult and two children. We could open the window and we had the look to some trees. We could hear any cars, it was very quiet. We had to walk only 10 minutes to the centre, to the main bus station or to the tourist board. There were also a busstop nearby the hotel. The staff was very friendly at reception and when we had breakfast. We had a wonderful time and I would recommend the hotel to friends. The bathroom was small but with bath and all was new and well working.

The breakfast (which was not included in the room price) was 'adequate', but not of the standard you expect in Scotland. Cooked breakfast on cold plate, so bacon (one small rasher, tomato (one small slice of tomato) was cold on arrival. The sausages were 'catering' with no flavour. Yoghurts poor quality. Nasty packs of marmelade with no orange in them. Just not a very good experience and I would not have it were I to go back there. Bathrooms - no handle in bath, felt dangerous and no hairdryer. But very well positioned. Rooms good sized and beds comfortable. If you have a lot of luggage it would be difficult becasue of all the stairs and passageways (no porterage).

This is a good option as it is close to all the sights, the room comfortable and the service good. However, it isn't particularly quiet so keep this in mind if you're a light sleeper. Late night/early morning revellers walk past and loiter outside.

I am pleasantly surprised with the quality that I got at this hotel. The bathroom is fantastic - ultra modern. The surrounding is quiet and only 5 minutes walk to major shopping centers. The Cairn is within 5-10 minutes walking distance from city center, train station, and 5 minutes more to Royal Mile. There are restaurants and some shops in immediate area. Staff are very friendly and helpful althought sometimes desk staff did not have enough knowledge of city to be helpful with specific questions. But, the main tourist information is in city center a short walk away. They do have high speed wireless internet but it is not in all of the rooms in the main hotel. It is in the lobby there that has comfortable furniture for checking emails, etc. The hotel "annex" rooms which are across the street have high speed in all of the rooms at least as far as I know. I would certainly recommend the Cairn for reasonably priced accomodations. I am traveling alone and spent 6 nights there. Also, I booked for 3 nights initially and was able to negotiate part of the room price down for the next 3 nights.

This was our first time in Edinburgh and Cairn hotel is pretty close to Princes St. and city center (20 min. walk, not 10 min.). Very quiet location and we had a very nice room. The scaffolding in front of the building is a little off putting at first, seems like it's been there for years since I read the reviews which already mentioned it before deciding on this hotel. There is no elevator but our room was on the 2nd floor so it wasn't much of a struggle. The front desk employees were always nice and ready to answer any questions. Best of all, breakfast consisted on hot and cold choices which included eggs, bacon and sausage as well as cereals. We had a very nice stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Edinburgh.

The hotel is beeing refurbished at the moment. So it looked like a big construction site from the street. Fortunately it was great from the inside, quiet and roomy. Great breakfast. Only the breakfast room was a bit dirty due to the construction works. Great value for money.

The hotel did not state that they were have building work done on their website. So, when I arrived there was scaffolding along the front of the hotel. My room was at the front of the hotel where all the work was being carried out and was very noisy, with workmen passing by my window. When I went to reception to ask if it would be possible to move rooms although they found me another room they were less than happy at my request. At breakfast time, there didn't seem to be any kind of order of staff present, crockery and cutlery were missing from the tables etc. I would have prefered to have a cooked breakfast but there was no one to ask and when one did appear, she seemed that she couldnt be bothered. I didn't have breakfast there again due to the disarray. I would'nt recommend staying here.

Booked for 4 nights, but decided to move out after the first. Rooms were small, dirty, noisy and smelly (we changed from the first room we were offered). On the positive side the staff were friendly and obliging. Moved to the Malmaison in Leith, which cost slightly more, but was worth it - although further from the city centre, it was well served by local buses and taxis, and I would heartily recommend it (it is available via Venere, but not as an online booking).

A good tourist base situated close to all attractions. Staff are very helpful but breakfast seems to be a problem when groups are there. The independent visitor seems to take a back seat and doesn't get the service they deserve when groups are there. The reception staff are very helpful and any problems are immediately sorted out.

Utterly terrible hotel - thank God I only stayed one night. A toilet door that jammed from the outside, so I had to get a repairman up at midnight to indulge in a pee! There was a dangerous pool of water around the TV jack on the windowsill, and the TV did not work. After a complaint, the picture was still very fuzzy and it was basically a 1970s TV. The staff were obliging and tried to help, but the owners had put no money into the hotel. Very cold rooms and instant coffee, although a waiter took pity on me and gave me a weak but at least better pot of real coffee. Sweaty sock left under bed by maids (I only discovered as I was leaving). The staircase to the rooms was actually unstable, which is a real health and safety problem. My complaint drew no offer of a refund or anything else - and this dump cost £75, worse than anything I have ever paid for in London. The only good points were the fact they let us leave our luggage there the second day, and it was well located. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ****HOLE.

Our stay at the Cairn was flawless. It is located within easy walking distance of the central Old Town area and Edinburgh Castle. Breakfast was great and the staff very helpful. As with most UK hotels, rooms are pricey for what you get, but the Cairn is well priced for Edinburgh. If forced to make a complaint, the heat was not yet turned on and so we couldn't warm up the room in the morning - but this was very minor.
