Great place -old school quality, very nice setting at Royal Terrace, fine breakfast, bedding could do with a bit of upgrading, but over all a fine place to stay, when you require good old style at a fine location in town. This place is dearly recommmended.

My stay was wonderful apart from 2 things that really bothered me. 1) For me whether a hotel has wifi or not is crucial.... I was told there was wifi and indeed there was, however the quality was terrible, horrificly slow and kept cutting me off. My partner couldn't even connect and the hotel could not help. They did not have a spare ethernet cable or a general use laptop. Instead we moved to the neighbouring hotel, the royal terrace where my partner connected with no problem. 2) 2 of the nights we brought pints up to the room and the following day pint glasses were still there after the cleaner had been and gone.

Nice place in a quiet part of town. 10 minute walk to nearby restaurants. No lift, so be prepared to carry suitcases up multiple flights of stairs.

I stayed two nights, beds were o.k. Only blankets I did not like. Bathroom was new. Breakfast real English (fat) but further o.k. No fresh drinks/fruit. Neightbourhood is good. Taxi's are very cheap and the bus to the airport is fast and cheap. Try the free walking tour. We really enjoyed it.

It's in an excellent position, just few minutes walk from Princes Street and few SECONDS walk from the amazing Calton Hill park. The building is simply stunning (look at the glass roof above the stairs!)and the rooms are neat and comfortable. We didn't have breakfast but the smell was really delicious. And last but not least, the staff was very kind, friendly and competent. Surely, next time in Edinburgh, we'll choose it again!

Hotel Ailsa Craig was just right for my needs as I passed through Edinburgh on my way to Stirling. The room was clean, I had a double rather than a single bed which was a bonus. The staff were very friendly on arrival and had looked up train times for me for the following morning which was very helpful.

Lovely hotel in very quiet place, but it is only 10 minutes walk fron Waverly station. The Calton Hill with wonderfull view to Edinburgh is near. Our room was vey big and comfortable. Tea and coffee facilities, TV, hairdrayer, comfortable beds. The stuff is very friendly, despite our early check out, we received tea, coffee, toasts with butter and jam.
