Hotel Excelsior - Dubrovnik

Good hotel, five minutes walking from the old city, BUT: 1. Breakast is varied but not so tasty. 2. Very expensive.

I stayed for one week at Hotel excelsior. I had an excellent stay. The staff was competent and friendly, the room was perfect, although it had no view (I forgot to request it and the hotel was full). Overall it is probably the best hotel in Dobrovnik. The desk staff needs a little more training to be responsive to customers.

Once in Dubrovnik, we checked all the hotels and their services. This one (Excelsior) is the best with no doubt. Perfect. Main goals: the view of Bubrovnik, the private beach and, of course, the employees.

While this is a nice property, it's not what I might have expected in a 5* rated place. The towels looked like Holiday Inn and there were only two of them. No turn-down service. Safe didn't work. Shower was semi-broken and the maid didn't catch it--we had not complained since it was sort of usable. Overpriced dinner and the restaurant had a lot of construction noise going on. The staff was very good, room was clean, and breakfast was SUPERB.

A well run hotel with good public areas however non sea facing rooms are depressing and small yet are still expensive. Other facilities and service are excellemt.

Groups and corporate meetings, mature and young couples

Aside from living up to its 4-star rating, this hotel (and the Grand Villa Argentina slightly up the street) has the most magnificient views of Dubrovnik. Worth visitng just for the view at sunset.

Superb location. The view from the back of the hotel in particular the terrace bar was fantastic. Unfortunately our room was very much on the small side (not 5 star by any means). We did complain and were moved to another room but it was the same size room just on a higher floor (they said they were booked out and didnt have any other rooms available). All in all nice hotel - food in terrace bar was much nicer than the Russian Taverna (which was overpriced and very disappointing). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Excelsior the only disappointment was the room size.

5 star hotel with 5 star misunderstanding in reception area

The only complaint with the hotel was the breakfast which was not in keeping with 5 star standard i.e., lack of fresh fruit, and hot dog sausages instead of normal sausages. the fruit that was served was either tinned or looked old and of poor quality

Very nice hotel in a beautiful city. Great location to town with great views.
