Excellent staff,Rooms comfortable,Shower awful,no extras that one would expect from a 4 star hotel.ie no dinner available, breakfasts poor. location excellent, Parking excellent. Had to pay 10euros per day to move from the first floor to the second to improve the light to the room.

Stayed in cortona San michele for 5 nights in mid July 10. Great spacious characterful room and bathroom and decent size shower. Lovely view over the main drag and the roof tops and country side. Great setting for breakfast each morning in the peaceful inner courtyard garden. Good selection for brekkie including eggs which I know some people like. There is good coffee on tap plus a guy overseeing things will ask if you would also like a cappuccino. Only gripe - the wireless Internet is not free which seems a bit off and cynical but it seems from the other hotels we later stayed that this is currently the norm. Hopefully more hotels will catch on to the fact that, with the increase in iPhones, more people will expect free wi-fi as a matter of course. I know after racking up massive phone bill on hols that will be a priority for our next hotel booking. Cortona, of course, is beautiful.

Overall good hotel, although not really a four star hotel, especially in terms of breakfast and rooms. Initially I was given a room with practically, no window on the fourth floor (the elevator only goes till the second floor) and I changed it for a room on the first floor, overlooking a wall, making the room quite dark. Staff were friendly and helpful, while location is excellent. If you are traveling by train, the closest station of camucia usually does not sell tickets but you can get from the travel agency almost opposite the hotel

Hotel is very ancient and is situated in center of the city: this is confortable to walk around without car. It is not allowed to park by yourself car, because garages and streets around are very small and they ask 20 euro every day for parking. The room and bathroom were very simple and with furnitures old and not very clean. But the city is fantastic!

This was a delightful hotel. The room was clean and quiet. The air conditioning worked well and was very quiet (very important in July). There is no traffic noise to speak of in this historical part of Cortona. The staff was friendly and loaned me an electrical adaptor when I needed one. The breakfast was very nice. The location was right near the center of Cortona. The only minor issue was the hotel internet computer was a bit slow.

The Hotel San Michele is a beautiful, well preserved historic hotel with elegant public spaces aand large rooms. The staff was most helpful and polite. The location was perfect for accessing the center of the town. Great breakfast in a charming spacious breakfast room.Wouldn't stay anywhere else!

Our room was clean but cramped (a "standard double") and with a very small window. Weather was cold, and it rained, but the central heating was turned off. When we came down for breakfast next day , we had to go hunting for somebody to make the coffee. Not a bad hotel, but they did not seem very interested in their guests! Not living up to its stars, and certainly not to the price.

We had a room with two beds, one of which felt like concrete and was so hard it left me bruised... ask to see the room and check the beds before you accept the room! The room was clean and the breakfast buffet was good, but this certainly did not strike me as a four star hotel.

Conveniently located. The staff is very welcoming and ready to help. Our room was very spacious, silent and well heated. A very nice place to stay. The hotel has several 'patios' that can certainly be used in spring/summer.

We enjoyed our stay in this elegant hotel right in the center of Cortona. The room brought us back in time with its antique furnishings and view of the Tuscan hills. The breakfast in the outdoor courtyard was excellent.

Great location just off main square and welcoming staff. Modern bath facilities and good breakfast. I would recommend parking in the free lot at the base of the street below the hotel and taking the short walk up the street to the hotel. For dining out, try Bucaccia or La Locanda nel Loggiato and avoid Route 66 (surly service & bad food). I've been to Italy over 30 times and would stay here again!

This hotel is situated half way up the hill into cortona. We arrived after cyclying 52 miles and were greated by a friendly receptionist and shown to our room. The main reception area is very impresive has was the size of our room. The hotel is very old and has great character. We had a good view from our window, if you stuck your head out of it. The room floor wasn't as clean as it could have been, the odd hair here and there but the bedding was clean and fresh and the Air con worked. Breakfast was good. A plentifull selection of meats, cheese, breads, eggs, cereals, etc. Cortona is well worth a visit and Hotel Michele is a good base but a little expensive.

Stayed 1 night in a Superior Double.Worth the extra money for the extra room and original features in this historic building. Right in the heart of town with very welcome valet parking, as parking in the centre is not easy. Staff were very helpful.

Stayed three nights as we took day trips to Assisi and to Siena. Staff was very friendly and knowledgable about restaurants - they gave great recommendations for dinner. Breakfast was a very nice buffet, serviced by a very friendly waitress. We traveled with our two adult sons who had their own twin room right next to our double. Parking was easy and free right down a rather steep street very nearby. We did not need to use the garage offered for a fee by the hotel. We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend this hotel to our friends.

I think overall this is a very nice hotel. We had a triple, okay for us but a bit hard for our niece to sleep in overhead loft with steep stairs and for her to use toilet facility in the night. Not great for young children. A bit small for three.

Everything about the hotel was great - quiet room nicely furnished, comfortable bed, ideal location and good breakfast. Cortona is a charming place with fabulous views from many parts of the town. It is also a good centre for visiting Monerrchi, Sansepulchro, Arezzo and more.

NIce place next to the square. First time in Cortona never know that you park down the hill and it it a long walk up the hill, but it is that no matter where you stay. Facilites were very nice and romatic.

The San Michele is a lovely hotel located in a historic building just a few doors from a main piazza in picturesque, lovely Cortona. The main rooms downstairs are beautiful and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Our room was small but clean and nicely decorated with antique decor. The included breakfast buffet was delicious and included excellent scrambled eggs and wonderful croissants. The hotel was wonderfully located for walks up and around hilly Cortona The only drawback was driving our car up to the hotel to drop off the luggage. The hotel is at the top of a very steep narrow street. Luckily the hotel did have a private garage available for an extra fee which my husband willingly paid not to have to drive the car any further up that street. When we left he had no problem since he realized the flatland was only a few doors up and the way out was downhill from there.

This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful old town. We had a lovely canopy bed in our room and our boys had singles in a loft above us - they loved it! Road are very narrow in this town; cars could not go by when we were stopping to unload suitcases. Had to use valet parking as self parking is down the hill, out of town. We loved this town and this hotel; wish we could have stayed a couple more days.

Hotel San Michele is perfectly located for touring Cortona. It was very easy to find and not too far from free parking outside the city walls. We had a great dinner at the oesteria theatro which was recommended by the hotel. The room was really nice with special touches to make it feel somewhat elegant. Great value for a great hotel!

Room 209 was bright and light. The window opened into a courtyard which held a balcony for second floor guests with a table and chairs. It was quiet and suitably dark at night with the shutters closed. The shower was good and the bathroom spacious. We enjoyed the breakfast and the overall ambiance and atmosphere of the San Michele. We also liked the location right in the heart of Cortona. The only negative - if you can call it a negative- is that the hotel does not indicate that you can drive into the city to deposit your luggage and check in. At the gate to enter the town, we were told by residents that it is all right to do this and it was certainly more appealing than pulling our luggage up the steep street to the hotel. We loved it there and would stay again.

The genuine setting of the hotel and its location right at the center of Cortona are real assets.Breakfast was very good. But one should be warned that parking in the garage is difficult as the street is extremely steep. The fixed type of shower(as against a flexible one) was neither convenient nor hygienic. On the whole, a pleasant stay.

Our room (134,- €) had no shower, only a very small bath-tub (just for sitting) and a wash-stand, that could only be used for washing hands. The breakfast was not the kind we expected from a 4star-hotel.

Excellent position with stunning views from the bedroom.Initial room a little small but upgrade to attic suite available which made a three night stay extremely comfortable. A little disappointing that no bar in hotel itself but Cortona is wonderfull with a good variety of restaurants for all tastes and budgets. Breakfast available but a little unexciting.
