Hotel Columbia - Cortina d'Ampezzo

We stayed in the early off-season and reserved a double room, but the very helpful and patient concierge showed us several upgrades(which did cost a bit more) and we took one. We paid FAR less than the currently-posted Winter-spring(ski season) rates. The reserved room had a small deck and would've been fine, but others were larger. The hotel was a ten minute walk from town with one steep stretch of road, but a very pleasant walk.

1. We got a room with a bath that does not have a curtain or glass barrier. It made bathing uncomfortable because of the chance to wet the bathroom floor. 2. Breakfast did not match the other facilities' quality; we expected free access to coffee.

I will gladly stay at this hotel again. Very clean, quiet, well-run hotel with competent staff. Everything works. My wife and I enjoyed the stay thoroughly and would not hesitate a second to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cortina d'Ampezzo by car. (It is about 10-15 minute walk from the town center.)

This was our first time staying in the mountains of Italy. We chose the Columbia based on the description on the web site and comparisons on Venere.com. The hotel was adequate since we spent most of our time exploring the area but if we were to return to Cortina we would choose a hotel closer to the center of town. Most of the staff were very friendly and welcoming with one exception. The desk person when we arrived seemed very cold and unwelcoming and this unfortunately gave a bad first impression. The following morning, in the breakfast room, this same individual scolded an elderly couple for sitting at a table set for 3 instead of one set for 2. There were only 3 tables occupied at the time! Perhaps he was having a bad week, or maybe he should not work in the service industry. While this was only one individual, it made us realize what a difference that can make when we are travelling.

Outstanding value. Staff very friendly and professional. Rooms spacious and scrupulously clean. One tip: if you've never been there before make sure you take a map to show you how to get there when you arrive in the middle of town. Also the hotel doesn't have its own restaurant so make sure to ask the staff about restaurants that are close by and also their opening times. One excellent restaurant we found is hotel de Beppe Sello, just down the road from Columbia. Closed on Tuesdays however.

We were offered and accepted an upgrade to a room with balcony looking onto the mountains. The room was very well appointed, reception friendly with useful sightseeing advice, and the breakfast first rate.

Perfect spot for an overnight stay or an extended period of skiing. Parking is a bit tight but otherwise lovely. Breakfast service was very warm and coffee excellent.

Breathtaking views and location, perfect service, clean and spacious. Worth every penny.
