Hotel looks fine from outside and is in a reasonably pleasant position. It has a free car park which is great, but it gets quite full . We managed to get one of the last few spaces and as this was a saturday night I assume it was busy day for the hotel. The rooms are quite basic but are clean and tick most boxes. The shower was good and the bed comfortable. On the negative side, the towels were a bit like table cloth material and the double bed was two single mattresses pushed together. Location is fantastic, a few minutes to the Lake. On the down side, the lake is boarded off due to construction work for about 100 metres. The hotel would have been fine, especially since the large bell adjacent to the hotel wasn't the problem some other travellers had mentioned. (we did leave at 07.30 am). The major problem was the paper thin walls. A couple chatting loudly in an adjacent room kept us awake until 1 am. No-one was available on reception to assist. I could also hear the guy next door snoring !. So, in summary, if you are a sound sleeper and don't have the problems of noisy neighbours then the hotel is good value for money and I could reccomend it. However, for me, a quiet room is a fundamental requirement and so I will not be staying there again.

On the web page for this hotel some visitors complained about the loud church bell at 7:00 am and suggested to ask for a room on the opposite side of the bell tower. That is nonsense, as the hotel is immediately next to church and the level of loudness everywhere the same. We found it charming and a natural alarm clock to start the day. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

The hotel is 200 metres from the train or bus station and shops and cafes. The ferry boats are just another 100 metres. A further 50 metres to the Swing Dance Festival stage. The only improvement that I could suggest on behalf of my wife, is tea and coffee making facities in the room. The hotel has a charm and character that is missing in modern functional hotels.

Value, location and very hospitable staff. We would recommend this hotel for anyone looking to spend some time in Como. A charming site, close to bus and train arrivals/departures, a short walk to the historic area and tour boat dock, and with 15+ very good dining spots. Very warm inn keeper and staff ease any bumps.

Great hotel! We had 4 people and we got 2 connecting rooms. Very spatious. We even had a large terrace where we ate breakfast in the morning as we listened to the church bells from the adjoining bell tower. If you want to sleep in this could be a problem, but if you want to get up and see the sites it is a beautiful wake up call!

Great hotel - I would recommend it to anyone. Ideal location just a short walk from bus station, ferry terminals and the (Nord) railway station. (Please note that the railway station that serves Milan Central is about 20 mins walk away.) Breakfast was an extra 5 Euros but was well worth the price. The hotels 2Star rating does not do it justice.

Great hotel, location, staff and best value for money during our travels in Europe. We had a triple room and it was a lovely sized room. We loved it so much we wanted to stay an extra night but were unable to as the hotel was fully booked. Some staff spoke good English, others not so much (this is not a complaint)as we were still able to get our message across. The church bell does ring in the morning but it just added to the charm of the hotel. I have already recommended this hotel to friends.

This hotel is situated quite near the Como Nord Lago station (about 5-10 min walk up a slope). It's a lovely quiet hotel, though it would have been even better if breakfast was included in the 70 euros we paid for a Double. However, given the price standard for hotels in that area, this is one of the most value-for-money. It is situated very near the lake-front and we often picnicked on the benches in front of the lake, admiring the scenery and relaxing amidst the views.

The staff are excellent, the location superb, however the rooms are very small and they are not very clean, in the shower the mould was black all the way down the grout and the shower curtain was black at the bottom with encrusted mould. the hotel has an excellent location close to the lake and all facilities, however, the value for the price that they charge is not there. we travel all over the world and this hotel was sub standard for the rating that it has i would only give a 1 star rating.

Don't expect any thrills, a basic hotel where the rooms date back from the 70s .But the staff is friendly, the room was small but sufficient and quite clean, and looked out on some trees and was very quiet. Location is slightly outside the historic center, but quite close to bus station, Norde Lago train station and the pier, although the short walk uphill might discourage the less able. But at the price, good value for money considering the high prices of the area.

Very comfortable clean hotel. This is a great budget hotel, only a few minutes walk to the train station to Milan and bus and ferry services around the lake. My husband and I took the train directly from Malpensa to Como (9euros)and takes about 1 hour. After arriving at the hotel we decided not to rent a car and used public transport for our entire trip. The hotel Quarcino is also in walking distance to great waterfront restaurants. We will use this hotel again when staying in Como.

Hotel Quarcino is excellent value for money within its price range and is in a very quiet but excellent location for visiting Como. Everywhere is scrupulously clean and the staff are extremely polite and helpful (although have very little English). The continental breakfast is modest in a sense but very good in terms of the range of fresh fruit available and fresh, crisp breakfast rolls. You are five minutes walk from Como Nord rail station and the bus station (currently being rebuilt). This is the second time that I have stayed and I hope to revisit in the future.

Wonderful family run hotel and superb value for money. 2 minutes walk to the lakeside and a quiet location beside church. In every respect the hotel is well run, the staff friendly and helpful. Myself and 2 friends stayed at Hotel Quarcino for 3 nights and had a great time. The hotel is very conveniently situated for all the sites of Como as well as transport to other places on the lake. The owner was quite friendly and although he spoke little English he managed to be reasonably helpful in answering any questions. The room was huge and very clean. The breakfast was fairly simple...cereal, croissants and fruit, but we found this sufficient. There are a few things about this hotel that might put some people off- firstly that there is a curfew of 12 30 pm. Personally we didnt find this a problem but for those who like a late night drink it could be. Secondly, the bells are obviously rather noisy especially if your room faces the church. They are rung 3 times after around 7 30am. Again, we didnt mind too much but others might. We had a slight problem finding the hotel mainly because I forgot to take the address and although there was a sign it was helpfully turned the wrong way! The easiest way if travelling by train is to walk to the end of the station towards the lake, turn right and you will see a small church. The hotel is behind this. On the whole we were very pleased with Hotel Quarcino. We booked at short notice and were pleased to get something that was such good value, and so central. And by the way, if you are going to Como make sure you go to Bellagio as well. Its beautiful! The bus is a good alternative to the ferry and is cheaper. enjoy!

This small family-run hotel is five minutes walk from the bus depot, eight minutes from Piazza Cavour, has a garden to sit out in, some rooms with terraces and an elevator. The staff was friendly and helpful; they took us up to the roof-top terrace for photographs. Breakfast included fruit, cereal, bread and other pastries, coffee, chocolate and fruit juice. I would stay at this hotel again and highly recommend it to friends.

The Quarcino is well located; close to the lake, the town centre and restaurants. Staff were helpful and welcoming. The hotel is right beside the church and while we had been warned about the bells - ringing loudly and with some regularity from about 7.30a.m. onwards, we actually enjoyed waking up to them. The hotel could be tricky to find - we walked from the central station and kept a lookout for the church!

A gem of a two star hotel 200m from the bus and train station. Easy walk to the old town in Como and the lake ferries and tour boats. Ample parking for the car. The Quarcino Hotel is an out of the way hotel that reminded us of a convent: not a bad thing! It was clean and did not have the corporate "feel" of larger hotels. We felt safe there and although there was only one member of the staff (Judith--a fountain of knowledge!) who spoke English, it was not a problem. The breakfast was adequate--nothing to write home about but with the lake only a block or so away, who cares? I would return!

Contrary to some of the other reviews I would not suggest anything more than 2 stars for this hotel. The rooms are basic, the pillows hard! We stayed in the 4 person suite - it was a bit dull and not like the bright rooms pictured on the website. The entrance hall and foyer are bright and cheerful. There is a garden but the weather was bad so didn't get to use it. Breakfast is basic. The hotel is in a great situation - close to the harbour, town centre, restaraunts and the funicular railway. The owners and staff are extemely helpful and lovely. It is value for money given the high prices of other accomodation in Como. I would stay here again, but if I had lots more money I'd probably stay somewhere else.

I was delighted with the Quarcino! I was concerned that it's cheap price, may be reflected in the quality. However, my worries were unfounded, as the hotel was clean, the rooms were spacious, and the staff were helpfull and polite. My entire family were made to feel welcome, and well looked after. When we return to Como, we will endevour to book the Quarcino again. Don't worry about the bells. They are loud and do wake you, but they don't go on for too long. If you do visit Como, you must visit the Cable Railway, taking you to the hill top. The view is spectacular, and breathtaking.

Just returned from Italy. Stayed at several hotels via this service. This is the only hotel we wouldn't go back to! Staff was marginally friendly. We were travelling with an infant and asked late at night to send a quick e-mail to let everyone know we arrived safely...the friendly young son at the desk said sure...but we were then told no by the manager. In years of travel at smaller boutique hotels in Europe and Asia we had never been turned down! The rooms were run down and depressing. Breakfast buffet was mainly packaged croissants and fruit that we would have thrown out days ago. The location was convenient but a little hard to find. Would not recommend!!!!

Nice hotel for an appropriate price, if your demandings are not, to find a first class hotel. Very near located to the city centre and lake(about 5 minutes walk). The breakfast is very scanty, one point to be improved. Caution: Some rooms are directly located to a small churchsteeple, which is directly beside the hotel. Its bells start ringing in the morning, which means you nearly get a heart attack. But therefore You don't need an alarm clock.

Helpful and friendly staff. This was a hotel with personality. The room was opposite a church bell tower hence the towards poor comment under noise level in room - this only proved a problem at 7am Sunday morning! I only stayed in hoetel Quarcino for one night, but my stay was quite satisfying. For breakfast there wasn't much choice, but that's normal in Italy.I think a bit more wouldn't do any harm. After a few days the envirement (near lake Como, but you have to walk a bit) is a bit dull. Anyway, Hotel Quarcino is a nice hotel to stay for a couple of days.

LOCATION IS GOOD TO ACCESS THE BUS CENTRE AND NORD RAILWAYS STATION, CLOSE TO THE LAKE SHORE. FACING TO THE ROAD, THE ROOM WE STAYED WAS VERY NOISY AT NIGHT.

Hotel was as expected and as seen on the website. Room was rather cramped but management provided good service overall. Very good breakfast also.
