Decent basic accomodation suitable for a short stay or stopover.

Hotel Posta has no lobby and the door to the building cannot be opened from the inside or the outside without a key. You are locked in when no one is in the downstairs restaurant, which is most of the time. They would not give us 2 keys, so if I left the hotel with the key, my husband had no way to get out of the hotel. If he used the key to let me out, then took the key with him to the room, I had no way to let him know when I came back and needed to get in. Ridiculous. In case of fire if the electrical system goes out you will be trapped. There is no emergency crash door. Also, the hotel is on a very noisy piazza where every sound is magnified. Great location but noisy. Como is a very nice town with nice shops and restaurants. Our favorite things were taking the funicular up the hill and walking around Brumante; exploring Bellagio, and seeing the gardens at Villa Carlotta. Older people who may have trouble climbing steps and hills should stay in Como instead of Bellagio.

The room was very basic and out of taste.

The hotel is more than adequate if your on a budget. Rooms were clean and staff friendly. The first room we were given was cramped and very noisy as it was directly above the main entrance and close to the street. We asked to be moved and were offered a much bigger, better and quieter room so we were much happier. The location is very good and you can easily walk from the station or to the lake.

It was a decent price, we paid 75 euro per night at the end of April. The t.v. did not have an English speaking channel, no CNN in English. The room was plain, with a sub-par breakfast. Good location, close to the train station and boat doc.

Only ok hotel. It has a great location in Como and is not far from the train station. Breakfast is also excellent. The staff were not very friendly and just did their jobs perfunctorily and it was confusing having to check in first at a different hotel. Also, the staff didn't even know where an internet cafe was but I found one right around the corner.

Room was very basic but clean, cleaning staff was a delight. Great location and secure. This hotel is managed by the Plinius which is 50 metres up the road and you check-in and out and have breakfast here. Breakfast was fantastic. Straight down the hill from the central train station, about 15 min walk with luggage. 5 min from the water’s edge and on the Volta Piazza. Some great restaurants in the area, be willing to look in the back alleys to find the best. Café Riva (on Via Cairoli) and the Scaldasole (on Via a’Volta) were our favorites. No internet, but there’s a café nearby full of Italian kids skipping school. Staff were great. Make the effort and go up the lake to Bellagio and find the Café Bellagio Point and introduce yourself to Bruno the operator. He’s a delight and a very entertaining gentleman.

Was very close to all amenities next to Volta Square, easy to locate however at night the signage wasnt obvious & check-in was at Hotel Plinius across & down the road a short distance. Rooms had older decore but were comfortable, clean & tidy. We feel value for money. Walking distance to train, SPT, Cable Car, Ferry, restaurants etc. Were happy to care for luggage after checkout until departure. Buffet breakfast was extensive & very nice.

The grout in the shower was stained and missing in places. The room was quite large and otherwise great. There were many places to eat nearby and the train station is an easy walk. We would stay there again.

Oct 17 2007 review pretty accurate for our November stay. No warning check-in would be at sister hotel, Hotel Plinius, in confirmation or email communications. While walk was short between hotels, it took 4 trips before we finally got separate beds, smoking room as requested/confirmed. After a 4-hr train ride, it was irritating but we could not fault the efforts of the receptionists at Hotel Plinius; they were as frustrated by experience as we were. Finally got a triple room with balcony so we had plenty of room and a nice view for our overnight stay. A call from family back home did not get through to our room; was told phone was busy -- it apparently didn't work or call transferred to one of 3 other rooms we viewed. Some of the double rooms we saw were admittedly small; little room for luggage if extended stay is planned. Apparently off-season as we believe we were only ones at Hotel Posta; no staff visible after our initial 3p arrival at Hotel Posta. Albeit small, elevator readily available. Location near Piazza Volta and lake was great! Restaurante Posta opened only for evening fare. Food was brought back to our room -- EXCELLENT, 5-STAR FARE! Even at end of our trip to Rome, Florence and Zurich, it still ranked #1 on our culinary list. Breakfast served at Hotel Plinius. While a good selection of food, breakfast setup was not finished at 7:30a start time. Coffee on hot plate initially not very hot but got much better by 3rd cup. While nothing special, Hotel Posta served us well enough for the price of 70 Euros for our short stay.

Como was great but the Hotel and quality of the room was poor. The room was old and a few of the comforts did not function. Overall the price did not reflect the expectations. We also had to get our room key from another Hotel which meant we had to go back and get the key. The distance from the railway station was more than the 500 m we were told. Not high on my return to list.

This hotel is fine for the low cost in this expensive area. Centrally located and quite small but only a 10-minute (maximum) walk from the station. 5 minutes from the lake and the town centre. You check in up the road at Hotel Plinius. The rooms are not small by European standards and the bathroom was better than some, but it was clean and had space for 2 people and we didn’t trip over our luggage. The bed was comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful, no complaints there. However, the lift is tiny and on two occasions, (We only stayed one night) it was full of laundry and staff, so we had to wait for ages to get out of or up to our room. We ate that night in their restaurant and got great service and good food. The breakfast was not great, come down early for breakfast because they do run out of the simple fare they offer. We stayed in September, and we had no trouble at all with noise - it was very quiet and Piazza Volta was quiet too. This hotel is value for the price you pay - clean comfy rooms and very convenient to discover Como on foot. Don't expect modern chain hotel service with this hotel, if you want a cheap base in a lovely part of the world it is just fine.

The room was OK and clean but very small. There were no lobby in the hotel itself (you had to go to another hotel across the street). This made the hotel a bit impersonal. The breakfast was quite poor. The location was excellent. Finally, this was not that bad but way to expensive for what it was (94 euros / night for a double room).

Nice hotel in the heart of Como. Great view out of the room down to the city square. Very kindly staff. The restaurant joined to the hotel is not expensive and quiet good.
