We stayed at the HMS for 6 nights in early November, and found it excellent. Position is perfect, right on the waterfront, and our room (No 27) on the third floor, had windows and balcony overlooking both the water and the piazza. We ate in the hotel restaurant on two nights, where service and food were very good. We found the staff friendly and helpful and also unobtrusive. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an enjoyable stay in Como. We will be back.

Como was our last stop of our two week vacation. This was our first trip to Como. We decided to stay four nights to take it slow and see this beautiful area we had heard to much about. The location is perfect for visiting the old town section of Como along with catching a ferry and seeing the other towns on the lake. The only request we made was a request for softer pillows. Our room overlooked the lake. Street noise is loud with the balcony doors open but the view is worth it. Close the doors and the room is quite. I had read negative comments about the front desk staff, but I have to disagree. We found them very helpful with any questions we may have had.

We stayed for one night on 28 August 2010 and had a room on the first floor overlooking the piazza with a side view of the lake. The hotel was in a great position with lovely rooms and very clean. Any noise from the main road was not a excessive to us and when we closed the window, we could hardly hear it all. The meal we enjoyed in the restaurant was excellent along with the service and friendliness of the staff. We did feel that the gentlemen on reception could have smiled a little but overall that was no big deal. Would recommend this hotel.

Good location. Difficult to find as directions very lame, if arriving by car. Near the ferry terminal for trips around the lake. Definitely take ferry to Bellagio and stay a couple of hours for something to eat. Room comfortable and clean although small bathroom, typical of Italy. Good selection at breakfast. Overall clean and efficient hotel although not the most friendly or helpful of staff.

I loved my stay in Como Lake and at Hotel Metropole Suisse au Lac. The staff is very competent and kind. The hotel is well located ands you can visit the city on foot. The view from my room was fabulous. I hardly recommend it as well the restaurant near the hotel.

We had a room on the 4th floor with excellent view to the lake (small balcony and a window). The room was rather small but very convenient , clean and tidy. Breakfast was acceptable, but nothing special. The hotel is an excellent choice for those who want to go around the lake. It's also quite close to the raiway station and the city center.

The locatation couldn't have been better, the hotel is light, clean and the room was very nice but and it is a HUGE but, the noise from the street is horrible. We had been warned of to expect that but we did not expect to be kept awake till 2:30 a.m. with people in the ajoining room chatting. The walls are paper thin and even normal conversation comes through as if the people are in the same room. We loved Como and the wonderful breakfast helped us overcome our exhaustion but we will never forget that nightmare of trying to sleep with street noises and the talkers.

The first night we received very small room with terrible bathroom (smell not good). The next morning we decided to leave this hotel becouse for this price we finded much better hotell with good , fancy room.We were absolutly in shock becouse they ask for penalty for one night !We received terrible room and we must pay penalty for leaving ? We refused of cource and after that suddenly they find the other room , nice, with renovated bath and not so small.Suprise? So , please take care that this hotels situation on the main road and just rooms on the 4-5 floor you can sleep normally. Our decision is not to go back to hotel Metropol Swiss.Relationship between price and quality is not acceptable. For first night in poor smell room I must pay 156 Euro !!

Great location & price!! Staff is very friendly and helpful. This was our 2nd time staying at this hotel. It is across the street from where the Ferry docks and walking distance from everything! Need to take the Ferry (Fast Boat) to Bellagio and view Lake Como. Visit the Duomo (beautiful)! We went to Easter Service there and it was an surreal and amazing experience. Great restaurants and little shops nearby. Ask for a view of the sea. Only negative (if driving) not much parking. Otherwise would stay there for a 3rd time!

We stayed at the Metropole Suisse recently (Feb 09). The hotel is about a 15-20 minute walk from the Como San Giovanni rail station and about a 10 min walk from Como Nord. So proximity from Public transport is not an issue at all. The hotels location is directly facing the Lake. There is a reasonably busy road outside the hotel and if you want something with absolute peace and quiet a lake facing room may have to be compromised with the traffic noise. We had a lake facing room and the view was fantastic. At the time we stayed work was being carried out on the lakes edge but it didn't spoil the view. The room itself was large, having a queen bed, writing desk and a spatious bathroom. Heating was provided with radiators which done as they should and heated the room well. The staff here dont seem to be enthusiastic about their work attitude. To be honest getting a Bongiorno out of them seemed to exhaust all their vigor for the day. Smiling was out of the question full stop. And all we did was give our key to them and retrieve it when we went out and came back. Not really demanding much of the staff. All in all - great location, bad staff, mediocre breakfast and nice rooms.

The hotel has been renovated & our room was nicely decorated. Top mark for the bathroom. For couples thinking of booking. Room 27 seems to be the top floor junior suite where you have a corner of the buildingg, offering both a lake view & a square view. We recommend Hemingways restaurant thats 3 minutes away (the gnocchi is fab) & traitoria Guimmins 5mn away (The host is hilarious). Food & wine were excellent in both places. Breafast at the hotel is very good.

We enjoyed very much our stay at your hotel from 8th to 13th of February 2009. There was a fantastic view over the Como lake from our room and also from the breakfast restaurant. The room had the necessary facilities and was nice and clean. And the employees were helpful and kind. Best regards Connie Lund

We were so lucky to get a double room with balcony and view directly to the lake and the mountains for standard room price (118 EUR). You cannot find much better scenery. However, some noisy construction work of the harbour front is going on, and the traffic on the street right below never stops. This made my wife a little crazy, but I enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the late evenings after my meetings. The staff is very friendly. Breakfast is quite uninteresting for a four star hotel e.g. scrambled eggs, but no warm bacon or sausages, but I guess this is typical for Italy. Internet access cost 6 EUR for 1 hour, 15 EUR for 1 day. As a business traveller I am disappointed that this is not included in the price. A special experience with the view for a fair price.

When booking the room, I specifically asked for a lake view, and this was provided. The hotel is quite old and could probably do with an 'update' in some aspects but generally was very comfortable and certainly well situated. Having arrived in a torrential downpour, it was very welcoming - a staff member braved the elements and parked our car for us for which we were very thankful!

I would and have recommended this hotel to friends. The location is perfect in Como and the price is reasonable for the quality of hotel. It was within walking distance of the train station for me. The internet service I found very expensive so I didn't use it. IT was a beautiful room and the included breakfast was great.

We stayed for 2 nights in July. We were able to have our little dog with us at no extra charge, and private parking for the car. This was certainly excellent. Our car was available when ever we wanted it. The garage was right in the hotel complex. The room price was a little high, but we chose to have a room with view of the lake, and the views were wonderful. A tiny balcony we could sit out on. The hotel has 4 stars; certainly 1 of these was due to the fabulous location. The bathroom was acceptable, but not up to 4 star standard. the air con worked fine. Very noisy at night if you have the window open. Breakfast was fine, with a nice range of food, and nice service.

The hotel room was supposed to have a view of Lake Como, but a large construction project on the waterfront, with high construction fence, prevented any view of the lake. Our room faced the street in front of the lake and it was very very noisy at night, to the extent that my wife and I were not able to sleep until 3 AM, even though we had ear plugs.

Rock concert in square outside window, with no soundproofing, of first toom offered. But this changed when requested. Also hotel suffering badly from work along lakeshore promenade, which looks likely to last for at least another year. Excellent nearby restaurant, the Historietta, on the corner of Piazza Volta and Via Cairoli. High quality for reasonable price.

Excellent location, opposite the lake. It is on a very busy road however, quite a lot of road noise, however there are electric roller shutters which negate much of the noise. Easy to walk to all the shops, or access a boat trip on the lake.

The hotel staff were good, but the hotel needed a lot of work to bring it up to standard we expect. The bathroom facilities were sub-standard. The water supplies were poor, the plugs and taps did not work, the air-conditioning was sub-standard. Overall the hotel was tired and needed a major overhaul. The restaurant was unappealing. The location was good, the external appearance of the place was attractive, so some investment by the hotel chain would pay for itself.

This is a good hotel, the room was spacious and comfortable (the bed a bit hard, but this is common in Italy) with a fine view to the lake. Everything fine except for traffic noise when we tried to sleep with the balcony door open. We may return if Como community removes the motor traffic from the "Lungolago".

The Hotel was really very good. The break was a surprise birthday present for my partner. I asked for a 'nice' room. We had an excellent double aspect room, with views of the lake from both windows. Overall our experience was very positive except for the shower--what a mess we made. There was no standup shower, just a hand-held one which older hotels in Europe have. Breakfasts were great. Would have been nice to have a hotpot for tea in the room. With the lake view comes the street traffic in front of hotel--can't have one without the other. Near everything, with ferry right outside, and the comfortable bus to Milan one block away (14 eur. per person). Good restaurant, with many nearby as well.

The hotel is in a great location right on Lake Como and adjacent to the centre of town. Our room was facing the lake offering fantastic views. The staff were very friendly and helpful. All staff spoke very good English which is a bonus. The onsite garage was very convenient after battling the crazy Italian drivers. The rooms are not ultra-modern but have an "old world" charm which is very pleasing. Overall a lovely hotel in a beautiful location.

This was an elegant older hotel that was in a very good state of repair. We requested a room with a lake view and that is what we had. THe room was old and spacious with nice mid 20th century furniture and a large bath. The location was great, right across the street from the ticket booth for boat trips, and right next door to the Tourist information booth, and right on the edge of the old town. We were able to visit Bellagio via the boats, and wandered the old town of Como to find some really nice places to eat. Overall this was a very nice place, but not new and modern. If you like older character but clean and nice, this is a very good place.

This was my first time to beautiful Lake Como. Therefore, I wanted a hotel that was easy to find and in a good location. I found it! VERY centrally located and right across the street from the ferry dock. I had a small balcony and great view of the lake. I took the ferry the next day to the complete north end of the lake and then stopped on my way back at Belagio. I highly recommend either the Grand Hotel (right at the dock and in the middle of everything) or the Hotel Belvedere (which was a little higher up the hill). Obviously, everyone wanted to see George Clooney's new place and I can now add my name to the list. I am now looking forward to my return trip but next time I'm thinking of staying in Belagio at the Hotel Grand. Hotel Metropole Suisse au Lac is also a great place for those first timers who are afraid of taking risks... :-)

Good stay. However, other than CNN News and Sky Sports, no English-language channels unless a package bought up front (exactly the same set up as B'ham Novotel Airport Hotel - a sign of things to come?!). So no UK news to speak of and no travel or discovery channels - a treat for me, so part of my holiday!! The restaurant was under separate management and although the food was excellent, the menu was the same every day - OK for business travellers but not so good for a week's stay. However, lots of other good places to eat. The bar was never open. Also, we missed somewhere to sit out in the afternoons, but then maybe that's not unusual in a city centre hotel. We did, however, have a great lake view. (Have previously stayed at Barchetta Excelsior and although no lake view, we had a small balcony which was wonderful for sitting and relaxing.)

This was my first saty at this hotel. The room wasn't too large, but for a single person it was comfortable enough. The view of the lake was worth every penny! There was, at times, some street noise, but it didn't bother me too much, because I wasn't spending too much time in the room anyway. The room was spotless, the shower is very tiny, but the water pressure was decent. The so-called "Internet connection" was nothing more than WebTV, which works awful and they charge $6 per hour minimum. You get much better deal just across the Piazza at Internet place. The staff was very friendly and very helpful in every way. The restaurant at the hotel is wonderful! I ended up dining there 3 times! The breakfast (included) is a typical buffet. The location is absolutely perfect!

We loved the Metropole. The location was wonderful--right on Lake Como, the staff was helpful, the rooms were clean. The only negative was that the room and bathroom was a little small, but we had a corner room which gave a a full view of the lake which was really beautiful and enjoyable. It was in a great location to see things around Lake Como and we took a leisurely boat ride to Bellagio which was spectacular. Funicolare Restaurant (a short walk around the lake) was fabulous--we would hightly recommend. We would definitely return to this area and this hotel!

This was our last stop on our vacation. It was within walking distance to the train station. The directions from the train station could have been a little clearer. This hotel was a wonderful surprise and a great ending to our fabulous trip to Italy. The staff could not have been more helpful. They were giving us suggestions about what was going on at this time and maps to get there. The room was great we had a double superior room a high floor with a view of the lake. The hotel is literally across the street from the ferries and water taxi. There were great restaurants all around within walking distance. We wished we had planned a longer stay in Lake Como and at this hotel it was wonderful. Next time!

The best part about this hotel is its location. It is in walking distance from the train station and the marina is directly in front of the hotel. The breakfast service was excellent. I would recommend this hotel to others. Very close to shops. Visit the restaurant at the top of the Coin Department Store - great view of the Duomo.

No hot water in my room, after several complaints the hotel gave me a key to another room to use the shower. This was not an acceptable solution, $50 was taken off my bill but that left me with a 6 hour drive the following morning without shower or shave.

Great location, basically comfortable, but now quite old and tired, and badly in need of an update and renovation. Cocktail bar service was slow, breakfast was the bare minimum and the "double" bed was just two singles pushed together...

We did enjoy ourselves there in hotel and Como overall. We were really satisfaid Venere-service and overall hotel and everything. Only minus is nearby road which is rather crowded and make trafficnoise to rooms which are to the lake.

Competent and friendly staff. Excellent room (for my stay at least), ideal location (at night the main road is hardly used and the double windows shut out any noise completely), wonderful view of the lake. Can highly recommend it.

Unfortunately the best I can report about our 4 night stay with the Hotel is that it is conveniently located. Our room was spacious and clean, but the hotel failed to live-up to 4 star standards at any level. With the exception of the day manager who was very pleasant the desk staff ranged from downright rude to mildly disinterested. The elevator malfunctioned daily; the shower was tiny and water pressure on the fourth floor was variable at best! We like to support smaller, family run hotels, but I honestly could not recommend a stay at Metropole Suisse Como. Restaurant Embarcadero was the highlight of our stay. The restaurant is run separately from the hotel and both the food and service was outstanding.

Stanze molto grandi e pulite. Forse avrebbe bisogno di rimodernare un pò le stanze. Rapporto qalità/prezzo sufficiente. Ottima la posizione proprio sul lago e a due passi dalla stazione dell'aliscafo.

The Metropole Suisse Au Lac is in an excellent location in the wonderful town of Como, Italy. Boat access to the entire lake is just outside. The restaurant is top notch. When flying to Milan if you have the choice between Milan and Como for an overnight stay, choose Como.

The vue on the lake from the room and the dining-room was wonderful.I also liked the old fashioned way decoration of the room. The situation was ideal.

Would recommend this hotel if not intending to stay in your room too long as the rooms are rather small but the view does help make up for this

Stunning view of the lake from our room which we had opted to pay extra for and was well worth while. Very spacious and clean including the bathroom. Constant noise from the busy main road below but this did not spoil our enjoyment of the room. Not far from train station, we walked in about 15 mins but plenty of taxis available. Ideal base for sightseeing round the lake being close to the ferry station and also close to the shops, bars & restauarants without being on top of them. Breakfast limited for some, scrambled egg available, cereal, selection of breads/patries, yogurt and juices.

It was a beautiful hotel on a great setting. Unfortunately some of the employees need to be trained to be acceptable and open to people of all races and colour. I had one unfortunate incident with one of the employees but it did not deter my holidays and stay at the hotel. I may be going back in November and will definitely stay the Metropole.
