My friend and I spent a long weekend at the Barchetta Excelsior and from our arrival to departure we enjoyed every minute of our stay. All Staff we encountered were very welcoming, helpful, warm and friendly. The Hotel was spotless as was our room we were very impressed that all bed linen was changed on a daily basis, and being left a lovely choclate every day was also a nice touch. Hotel is in an excellent location just right across the road from the Lake. Also all areas of the Lake are very easily accessable from Como by Bus Train or Boat. You are only about half an hour by Train from San Giovani Station to Lugano in Switzerland. I will definitely return to Como in the near future and look forward to staying in Barchetta Excelsior

The receptionist we met first was very helpful indeed. The only problem with our stay was the weather, as it was raining cats and dogs, and our balcony had no roof:)) As to the price, it could be lower; however, we chose Barchetta because of its location and were aware of their pricing policy at the time of reservation - so it was our choice.

Hotel Barchetta Excellsior is a great base to see from which to see Como and the surrounding towns on the lake. It is an easy 5min walk from the train station and increadibly eay to get to from Milano. The staff were very helpful in speaking slowly to me italian when they found out I was learning the language. we had a great time and I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The staff at the front desk were very friendly, multi-ligual and helpful. The only negative was that the parking is not on site and the garage they have access to, was full.

I have a superior room which is a room with a balcony and the hotel faces directly to the lake. This is definitely the hotel to choose if you want a lake-view room because all the lake-view rooms above the second floor has a large balcony. I happened to have a room on the fifth floor and the view of the lake was gorgeous. The only problem is that they have a very strange balcony sliding door. It is very difficult to open and close. You actually have to lift the whole door up to fit it on the correct rails to slide it open or close. I got frustrated sometimes opening and closing the door.

I'm sorry to say this is most disappointed hotel I ever stayed during my Italy/France trip on Apr. 22 to May 1. Room furtures are lousy based on it's 4 diamonds' level and room price. Above all, I chosed this hotel because it's room view but their iron terrace block the view completely.

The overall hotel condition was excellent. The only thing I complained about was the request made by the receptionist to pay a cautional amount of €60 at my arrival: she said that this amount was to guarantee and cover a possible consumption of the minibar. I travel a lot due to work or leisure and it never happened to me a request like this.

The booking of 2 rooms, although done several months before we travelled, was a disappointment as we has specifically ordered twin beds as we were 4 friends travelling (women) and we had to share a double bed on the first night before they could change it.

We had a view room with a tiny balcony. that was fine but overpriced. Hotel did have bistro and restaurant. Prices were quite high in the Bistro. People at the desk were very helpful and spoke very good English. Our main problem was how difficult it was to find the hotel and get to it, so many one way streets. I wouldn't go to Como if you want the Lakes experience. Such a big city!

When I was checking in I was advised to take a lake view room with a balcony at €40 per day which I had not not budgeted for. I found it is not worth it as the sun does not hit the very small balcony at all and as we were out all day we did not need it. Also €15 per day for the car park adds up.

Our experience was a very good one, the breakfast was always freshly topped up and the staff very friendly. The room was immaculate with clean sheets and towels every day. The only problem we found was the noise from the piazza (on 2 nights out of 6)went on until early hours of the morning, and you can hear people in the next room if they are speaking loud.

I booked for a double room, then when I checked in, what they were trying to give to my sister and me was a queen bed. ANYWERE IN THE WORLD, A DOUBLE ROOM IS TWO BEDS UNLESS INDICATED OR REQUESTED BY CUSTOMER. (I travel more tran 20 times per year). They ofered us a two bed romm, but at a higher price, and... further more, as they did not have any available, they finally gave us one with a view at almost double price than it was when we booked. THAT WAS TRICKY!!! They offer you parking with a daily charge, but you have to go several blocks down, to another hotel, where there is no sign or service to open the door.

We stayed at the hotel in mid October of 2007. Its perfectly located to catch the ferrys to the villages on Lake Como. The hotel is right across the street from the lake. Lots of outdoor cafes all nearby. We did take a taxi from the train station to the hotel, but would tell others to walk instead. Once you exit the train station and go down the steps toward the city - the hotel is on that same street and is about 5 to 7 minutes walk from there. So no taxi is needed. We arrived at night though and were not sure about the streets. But we did a day trip to the town of lugano and easily walked back and forth to the train from the hotel. Rooms were big, bathroom was huge with a full bathtub. Hotel was great. Nice breakfast with eggs, bacon, croissants, etc. We would definitely stay here again, it was really easy access to everything on the lake.

Though discounted parking is advertised, it is extremely limited (4 spaces). There was a rock concert on the square on Saturday night which kept us up until very late. The staff on reception were friendly and very helpful. The room was comfortable, we went for a delux room with a view of the lake, didn't realise we would have a balcony so that was a bonus. The only complaint I would make is that finding the hotel was difficult, I couldn't find a map of it's location on the website and with Como's one way system we drove around the town a few times before we managed to get to our hotel. Once we were there though I couldn't fault the location, very central and, as described, right on the water front. We had a very relaxing stay.

Pretty nice hotel. Parking SUCKED. They had 18 Euro a day parking at the Palace hotel, I wonder how much people that stay at the palace hotel pay for the parking? Not sure. The palace hotel looked a LOT grander and it's just a couple steps down the road. The people at the Barchetta Excelsior were pretty snobby at the desk, but the bar tender was pretty nice. I thought the waitress was going to have a seizure at breakfast when I asked for a tray to bring my boyfriend breakfast because he wasn't feeling well. The room was nice, had a wonderful view of the lake, small balcony- It rained the entire weekend but we still had a nice time! It's right across from the boat station and just a bit from the train and trolley up the mountain. Saturday has an all day market that looked great but we didn't stop. Como is a wonderful place, but didn't see any beaches what so ever.

Hotel has many amenities, view is excellent. However, we were treated extremely rudely on check-in and asked to step aside while people in line behind us were registered first. Our room overlooked the main plaza, with a beautiful view of Lake Como. However, there was a festival going on, with a live band and a DJ just under our window until 6 a.m. Nothing was said to us at check-in that this was occurring. We did not sleep at all, and for 145 euros per night, I would have appreciated a good night's sleep. Would not stay there again!

Fantastic location, great view, comfortable sleep and okay value for money... Specific issues include: Arriving Easter Sunday we discovered a giant Easter egg in our room - lovely - however it was broken up and half eaten - obviously from the resident of the room the night before! Made us worry how much of the room had been cleaned!... the room itself was a bit pokey... we had requested twin share but that was just too hard for the hotel to work out - they simply said we had a king size bed(not from where I come from!) and made it sound like we should be grateful.. I would stay there again though :) - sometimes location and view makes up for some other things

The lake veiw from the room was amazing, and como was a beautiful place with lots of places to eat, drink and shop take a boat trip on the lake and a trip on the venicluar railway to see the swiss alps. However the rooms them selves were not sound proofed so we were kept awake on numerous occasions by our neighbours, there is alos a bus stop right under the bedroom window the buses start at 6am and finish around 2am, the bar accross the square turns its music up around 11pm and does get very busy. The evening meal in the hotel was not worth the money, you can eat in the local resturants and save at least 60 euros. i would recommend a visit to como to anyone we had a lovely time, you should get to como by train from the airport for a cost of 4.5 euros each a taxi which we found out to our disadvantage was 135 euros. Children would be most welcome in como, we will be going again but will avoid overlooking the busy square.

Our overall stay was very good but I believe that when a hotel gives the exact times for serving lunch, it is not good for the customer to hear 'sorry the kitchen has been closed' although that there is one hour more from the time given. I would like also to say that the SKY SPORTS CHANNEL was on PAY TV although in other hotels, in which we also stayed such as Holiday Inn in Venice and in Crowne Plaza in Milan it was for free. I would like to thank you very much for your questionaire and I believe that I will use your web page again in the future. Athanasios Tsirtos

We were very disappointed in this hotel. It was located on a square that was full of unsightly equipment for a local water festival. There was a rock concert playing below our window for both nights we were scheduled to stay! The lake view room was hardly worth the price, offering more a view of the square than the lake. The room was small, plain, and showing wear, such as stains on the wallpaper. The price was really very high for the quality of the accomodations. Also, we received no sympathy for our unhappiness with the unexpected rock concert, other than to offer a move to the back, which would not have decreased the noise much. We were charged for both nights even though we left within hours of arrival because of the noise problem, with no consideration for our inconvenience and expense. Be aware that 4 stars in the Italian system does not mean good quality-- it relates more to a checklist of services available, e.g., dining room.

The staff at hotel Barchetta Excelsior were extremly friendly and me and my wife had a very pleasant stay at this well located hotel in Como. The view from the rooms with lake view is very nice aswell and we wish others a pleasant stay in the future.

Overall, an excellent hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Hotel was difficult to locate...perhaps better directions on reaching the hotel would be helpful. Air condition system needs to be improved.

At time of my stay the air conditioning did not work the whole night and the temperature outside was 30-35C. The windows could not be opened without mosquitos filling up the room. When I requested a discount to the Eu 113.00 rate because the room was not air conditioned - I could have stayed at a non-airconditioned pensione for a much cheaper price, and I did not get provided what I asked for, the General Manager laughed and refused my request stating "you already had a good enough rate - no discount". Appalling attitude, no service and a disappointing experience for what should have been a pleasant stay. I would never stay at the hotel again, and made booking over the internet a more risky experience.

Excellent location, breakfast buffet, and good decor. As is the case with most European hotel rooms, the size does not correlate with the high prices.
