Hotel Berg - Cologne
Brandenburger Strasse 6 - Cologne
877-662-6988The best part of the Hotel Berg is its location, which is within walking distance to many of Cologne’s major tourist attractions. It is an easy stroll to the Cologne Cathedral, which is an architecturally astounding building. Construction was begun in 1248 and completed in the 1800s. There are many museums you can visit as well, including the Wallraf-Richartz Museum, the Museum Ludwig, or the Museum Schnütgen. Shopping and dining opportunities are also located near the hotel, which makes it a great base for your holiday in Cologne.
The Hotel Berg allows pets.

The main gripe I would have with this hotel was the bed. It was terrible. The thin foam mattress left you with aching hips the following morning. I challenge the owner to sleep in them one the night to see what his guests have to endure...so be warned if you are considering this hotel. The adjacent WC/shower room was adequate but cramped. There are also no lifts, so a real problem for elderly guests with rooms on the 2nd or 3rd floors, otherwise the service was efficient if a little brusque. You were told where to sit for breakfast, which I thought inappropriate, as people were crammed into one end of the room. On the plus side, the hotel is located 2 mins from the main railway station and the Cathedral, so is very convenient for shopping/markets/tourist information etc. In end, the awful beds will mean we will not be staying at Hotel Berg again.

Good: Staff was friendly and helpful. Location was good. Easy to find. Breakfast was good. Showers and toilet were clean. Bad: only complaint was that the beds were as hard as rocks. I have been in german hotels before and across europe. These were the hardest beds I have encountered. They are similar to laying on a thinly carpeted floor and made for a poor nights sleep. Hopefully they invest in new mattresses soon. Ouch.

Hotel sypmpa malgré 1 type à l accueil assez froid. Les chambres sont propres, l hotel est calme et surtout, il est vraiment situé à 5m à pied de la cathédrale et de la gare. Séjour agréable, je recommande.

When we are there we witness a shouting match between the daytime manager and an asian guest. We do not know what was the cause but earlier we saw them talking quietly then suddenly they were shouting at each other. We think that the owner should not have quarreled like that with a guest. Our experience with this manager was that he is polite but not friendly. The night time manager is more approachable.

Hotel Berg was an amazing value for what it cost. It was right in the center of town. The staff was very kind and offered to hold our bags after we checked out. The breakfasts were amazing. I was very happy with everything.

With 70 euro per room per night you can buy a pair of good bad, some good light and if there is only a bathroom on the floor you have to do something for the smell. About the rest, nothing to say, for 2 or 3 nights is ok

I paid 47 euros for a single room without bath. The room had not been thoroughly cleaned as there were remains of ashes from a previous smoking guest on the bedside table. But what really annoyed me was that my room was directly on top of the hotel's reception and every time some late comer rang the bell it would wake me up. They should change the bell and install one that would allow them to turn its volume down at night. I didn't rest well in this hotel so I will probably not return.

I had a very nice stay at the Berg. The Hotel owner is a little gruffy but extremely polite and very efficiently German. I had booked for a single with no bathroom, but then I changed my mind and asked for a room with bathroom, which was done quickly at check in. The breakfast was ok, with bread, jam, yougurt, coffee, and you can request for fried or scrambled eggs for less than a euro apiece, the rest is all included in the price. The best thing about it is definetely the location. It is about 3 minutes walk from the central station and cathedral. I had planned to take trips to Aachen and Bonn and the hotel's location made it very easy not to waste time in getting to those places. Also, if you are coming from the airport the hotel is very convenient since you just get off the platform, walk out of the station and you are in your hotel in 5 minutes. The only drawback is the fact that when I was there they were doing road works in front of the hotel and there was some noise outside, but only during the weekdays, not at weekends. Also, I can imagine some people might be taken aback by the gruffiness of the owner, but he IS very efficient and precise. Just treat him with respect and do not make any unreasonable requests. All in all, I was very pleased with my short stay there. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable, decent room while you are visiting Cologne, this is a good place and good value for money. I would stay there again.

The room was very clean although it was on the 4th floor without lift. Breakfast was good: there were 3 types of bread, with cheese, butter, salami, or jam. This was served with tea/coffee and orange juice. Breakfast ended at 10am and checkout was at 11am which gave us plenty of time to get ready to leave. The hotel also kept our luggage since we left later on that day.

The Hotel Berg is a typical traditional hotel located conveniently to Koln's main railway station. As in most traditional hotels one has to carry a suitcase up a flight of stairs. The owner was courteous and spoke good english. However, washing clothes in the rooms was prohibited (an emerging issue in many hotels) but laundry service was provided. The suggestion that provision of a washing machine and clothes dryer would be a good selling point for Australians who are accustomed to such facilities in hotels/motels was not met with enthusiasm. Some noise from revellers walking along the street but otherwise reasonably quiet.

For what I booked and because I only needed a very simple accomodation for one night it was quiet allright. The only thing I found a bit strange was that I had to book a second room only for the reason that my wife, which left Cologne a few hours later, wanted to put her luggage in the room and take a little rest. That`s their companypolicy and for this it has to be respected. I was just missing a little bit flexebility. In general I got what I have booked and I would not hesitate to stay there again, if it is for only one night.
