Hotel is really good. It was my third time in Koln and my first time in this hotel. Excellent position, near the main places of interest. It is 10 minutes far from the Dome on foot. Area is really good. Excellent staff. Our room had some troubles with shower and hot water but they have offered us to change room. They are really nice with us during all days we have been in the city. Congratulation to the staff. So i reccomend this hotel and when I'll come back in Koln certainly I'll go again in City Hotel Koln. Alessandro Dente

Clean, comfortable no-frills hotel. Excellent location in a quiet street close to the Neumarkt and tram routes. The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast included delicious fresh rolls and perfectly cooked eggs, and it was nice having free wi-fi. On the last night of my stay I discovered that the walls are thin, as I could hear the TV in the next-door room - when it got late, I had to ask my neighbour to turn it down. That was my only reservation about this hotel.

The hotel is very quiet even though it's located in the city center, just 400m away from the nearest underground station (Neumarkt). Very comfortable room, bright and big. The bathroom had a tub. The staff was very nice, we spoke in english. Delicious breakfast with a good selection of food. The parking lot is not surveilled, and it's not free.

Good clean hotel, with reasonably helpful staff. Located a slightly awkward distance from city centre, too close to feel that taking metro is worthwhile, but a fair walk. No airconditioning, which was a slight issue as we stayed during a heatwave; however, a quiet street so having window open wasn´t a big issue.

We have been to Cologne 3 times. But we stayed in this Hotel the first time. The staff was friendly, the accommodation was perfect. The room was clean and it was very quiet. We like such small and comfortable hotels in Germany. The hotel is located not far from the Dom, 20 min. walk to the rail-way-station Hauptbahnhof. If we come to Cologne next year, we shall stay at this hotel.

The hotel is not far from the train station, if you like to walk it takes 15 - 20 min and there are shops and churches all the way down to the hotel to keep you busy. The staff is nice and competent however they only speak few English but I managed with a mix of German, English and gestures. There is no lift in the hotel, so for those who carry heavy bags it may be a problem if your room is on the third floor as mine was, but since I was there only for a night I only had a small bag so it was ok. My room was clean and had a correct size for one person but I could hear the TV of my neighbour, doors opening and closing, shower... The breakfast was ok and the lady who takes care of it was really obliging.

Fairly basic hotel, staff friendly but didn't speak English. Went for the xmas markets and found this to be a good location for visiting them (we walked from railway station though there is a tram). If you go for the xmas markets the cathedral one has loads of diffent food to buy and the most unusual one is the one on the boat

I did not get to stay at City Hotel Koln ultimately because after spending TWO HOURS locating the hotel (because the map provided on Venere was REALLY BAD - the hotel was not even on the map!), I was told by the hotel that they were fully booked. Even when I had a confirmed reservation. They did however put me in another hotel which was 5 minutes away. Which was fine but I was very upset about the map on Venere, and the unconfirmed "confirmed room" If you intend to stay there, it is a FIVE MINUTE WALK from Nieumarkt train station (2 stops from Centraal). Look for Laach straat, it is near Commerzbank. When you are in Laach straat, it will lead into Clemmenstraat, where the hotel is. Because I did not stay in the hotel, I have given everything an average rating so as not to spoil its overall rating. But just note that it is not representative of a guest's stay. I just really felt I should give some warning to those who are interested to stay in this hotel Oh by the way I also called the hotel to let them know I was lost but the operator hardly spoke English and gave me the wrong directions. Thus the 2 hour hike

Aug 2007; room (123) clean, quiet, spacious. Rooms differ, so ask. Location superb but hard to find; get good map. Only two-subway stops from Dom. 100 € per night was okay for room we got. Some were less. No elevator; quiet area. Good bar. We are US expats, very experienced and would stay here again.

The staff were great and the breakfast was good but we asked for a room with a full double bed and so we were put across the road in an apartment and this was just okay. It was very sparcelly furnished and equipped. And even though we had a double bed we still had 2 separate duvets which we find is quite a quaint German/ Swiss thing. The area was not the best and it is quite a walk from all the attractions. I cannot comment on what the rooms in the hotel itself are like as we didn't get to see them.

We were very happy with this hotel. It was about a five minute walk from the Neumarkt tram/U station which was just a couple of stops from the cathedral area. We also could walk all the way to the cathedral in about 20 minutes. A shopping/cafe district was within walking distance as well. The room was pretty small, but very clean, with nice wood floors and a door that opened to the roof. The bathroom was also very clean and modern and had a tub. The staff was very friendly and attentive and the breakfast both mornings was excellent. I would definitely stay here again.

City Hotel Koln is small but intimate hotel. It is on a quiet side street but a pleasant 15 minute walk to the Dom and 5 minutes to the major shopping area, there are many resturants and cafes in the area. But the main plus is the hotel manager, Anneliese, she is so cheerful and helpful we fell in love with the hotel the first day. Breakfast and the rooms are typical European and the bathroom is very modern. Our room was one flight up above the bar/resturant but it never disturbed us. The only negative is there is no elevator. We would definitely stay there again.

We stayed 1 night. I had not anticipated that the hotel did not have a lobby. You enter from the street into a corridor. At a "cashier"-type window located next to a doorway leading to the restaurant you register before being shown to your room up the winding stairway. I didn't see any elevators and managing the stairs with bulky luggage could be problematic. Otherwise, the room was very clean & tidy w/french doors leading out to a rooftop. Breakfast was included consisting of traditional European cold assortment of cerials , cheeses and rolls along with hard boiled eggs.

The Hotel is located at walking distance to the shopping district, and generally to everywhere in town including the railway station and the main Cathedral. Rooms was absolutely as espected, very confortable, quite and clean. Something to underline is the breakfast buffet in the morning, wow. You can really have enough food to be full until dinner time :-) Maybe if I would have to find something to say is about the bathroom, which is a kind of small, but I would strongly raccomend this Hotel anyway.

The staff was extremely helpful. My flight back to Budapest was cancelled, in the hotel there was no free room already for that extra night but they helped me to find another hotel in the city (it was Easter so all hotels were full in Köln). I am very grateful for their help. The hotel is clean and tidy and it is only 2 minutes walk from Neumarkt. Though it is actually in the city center it is still quiet. I can just recommend this hotel to anybody.

Really lovely cosy hotel, it is only small but staff are really welcoming, rooms are not very big but very clean, bathroom was spotless. Breakfast is cold buffet style with not much variety, however enough to keep you going through the morning. The Cuban bar is really nice, with a nice atmosphere in the evenings. The hotel is in an excellent position only about 300m from the main shopping area of cologne, same distance to the underground. I would recommend this hotel to most travellers, however the hotel does not have a lift and therefore not suitable for those with walking difficulties.

The location of the hotel is marvelous. Easy access to public transportation that will take you everywhere in the city. The hotel room was very large and comfortable the shower is a little tight. The buffet breakfast was more than I expected. The staff goes out of their way to help make your stay in Cologne memorable. The price for this room and this service is very very resonable. The only negitive is there is no elevator(lift). I would tell anyone planing to vist Cologne to stay at the City Hotel Koln. If you do go you will have the pleasure of meeting Ms. Annelise Pfeifer the most helpful person in the city of Cologne. Tell her I said Hello

Staff are very nice and welcoming, don't be offput by the exterior, which looks dingy, once you climb up the stairs it's quite nice. the room was nicely furnished, comfortable, but the sound isolation between the rooms was not ideal. breakfast was nice. location seemed a residential neighborhood away from the river and the old town, but still within walking distance (15-20 mins) of the key tourist sights, including the old town and cathedral.

It's a litte bit difficult to find this hotel since we don't know how to orignize the stree name of Germany, but it's doesn't matter because the German is very warmful and a young girl showed us about the position of this hotel. This hotel looks much better in real life than in the photos on line. Our room was extremely clean and modern. The hotel is near public transportation and the staff was wonderful. First of all this is a NEW hotel! It's been open in, I believe, November 2005, so everything is clean and new. The furniture is more like a 4* hotel, than a 3*. The only weird thing is the entrance door itself, which looks more like an entrance to a 2* hotel. But don't let that discourage you. Inside, it's very good, big rooms, nice furniture and FREE INTERNET ACCESS (but don't forget to take your LAN cable, I don't know if they have them on loan). As I said, it's a very good hotel and the Quality/Price ratio is Excellent+.
