My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Relais Della Rovere for three nights in March. The room we chose was the smallest room, but it was plenty of space for us. It was pretty with wood beam ceilings and nicely decorated in the Tuscan style. The bathroom was also attractive and the shower was great (although I would recommend a soap holder). We had a view of the courtyard and the room was very quiet even though it was at the top of the stairs and next to the elevator (301). Service was good, English spoken. Breakfast was a buffet with several choices including eggs, meat, pastries, yogurt, and fruit. The only downside was that the selection didn't vary each day. We ate at the restaurant, Il Cardinale, one evening without a reservation and it had good food and a nice ambiance. The property sits on a hill at the edge of town, and although it is surrounded by modern structures, it seems secluded. There are several buildings and a large garden with a pool. I awoke each morning to birds, not cars. Colle Val d'Elsa is a very nice town (quite large actually) with a great Friday market. We also happened to catch an antique market on Saturday morning.

Relais Della Rovere is a very nice hotel: hystorical buildings, confortable and spacious rooms, pleasant garden around. The hotel staff is very competent, at your disposal in any circumstance and quality of service is really appropriate. Restaurant "Il Cardinale" is a good choice as well ! A recommended hotel to stay.

We can highly recommend this place. This is our second stay at Rovere and it is a wonderful experience. The staff is great and always goes out of the way to please you. The surroundings are great and so is the room. We stayed for 10 days this time (same as last visit) and Colle is a great place to launch your day excursions to Florence, Siena, Montalcino or San Gimignano. If you want to stay in town there are plenty of gourmet restaurants at the piazza or in the old city. Across the street from the hotel is a wonderful restauarant with gourmet fish and seafood menu. It is labeled as a pizzeria but don't let the label fool you. This is one of the best seafood restaurants we have ever eaten at.

We absolutely loved our stay at Relais della Rovere and have already recommended it to several friends who are going to travel to Italy. The staff was outstanding and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. The hotel was beautifully located in an old abbey with a gorgeous view of the old city. With a small number of rooms it was very quiet and you hardly noticed other guests except when we met at the wonderful breakfast buffet. The city was strategically located with only an hour drive to Florence and less than 30 minutes to Siena and San Gimignano. If you don't want to drive on the Italian roads there were excellent bus connections to these cities from the old piazza in the city.

The room are cleanly, but too small and there can be more cabinets. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is good (cake, bread/rolls, coffee, tea, eggs, friut, jam, yoghurt, cheese etc.), but one salt and pepper pot is too little for all guests and a 4-stars hotel. The outside area with pool is good and there are egnough couches. Pool-towels are free provided by the hotel. The dinner in the hotel restaurant is too expensive but the "Pizzeria" across from the hotel is very good (indifferent if pizza, pasta, meat, fish or wine) and cheap.

Although this is rated as a 4-star, it hardly made the grade. The quality of service was average, the communciation was difficult as staff's English was poor. The walls were paper thin to the point we heard our next door neighbours celebrating their engagement till the early hours of the morning. We felt extremely guilty after telling them to quieten down, after all you don't get engaged every day. The true quality of the hotel did not live up to the promises from the web page.

We liked our stay at this place very much. The architecture of the house as well as the garden are just beautiful. The only disadvantage is the rather busy road not too far away. By the way, the restaurant is just excellant.

Good location, within easy drive to downtown restaurants. Although the property itself is lovely, the surroundings outside the abbey grounds are too commercial, consisting of apartment buildings and factories.

Good: - Ancient and very nice buildings - Friendly and funny staff - Pool Not so good: - Colle di valle d´elsa is a boring town, compared with san gimignano and volterra. No shops, restauarants at all. - The rooms are not comfortable, very "cold" furnished. I have missed a more "welcome at home" atmosphere.

The Rovere was excellent and I would stay again. My only problem came with Venere. You sent me an email saying my reservation was cancelled due to lack of response by Rovere. When I tired again, I ended up with two reservations, but Rovere correcetd the issue pro-actively.
