La vecchiacartiera was a good place for a few days exploring Toscana. The owner is very helpful and welcoming. We had a room with a view on the old fortified village; probably rooms on the other side of the corridor would have a less enjoing vue on the street and facing houses, anyway this would probably not have been a major problem as we gained the room for sleep after days full of very beautiful visits and views! On some occasions some noise would be heard from other rooms or corridor but that was not actually a problem and nights were quiet.

the hotel was fine and a good value. Unfortunately there was an unruly group of people staying near us that shouted and carried on for almost an hour near midnight, then again at 2am with no intervention by hotel staff. Very thin walls and doors obviously.

After noisy and dirty Naples Colle Val D'Elsa and especially La Vecchia Cartiera were a treat. The hotel has a cosy feel, friendly staff, especially the receptionist Simona, and the most delicious breakfast. I strongly recommend it to all wishing to travel round Tuscany - it's an excellent base to visit San Gimignano, and all the little places around it, Sienna, Pizza, Lucca and even Florence. Thanks Venere.com

This was such a gem of a find. Every staff member was just wonderful- absolutely charming and attentive to everything. The restaurant was great as well. The room was spacious and kept clean. The breakfast buffet was the best we experienced! Freshly baked pastry, meat and cheese, juices and wonderful coffees. We would definetly return. The bus was very close to the hotel and the bus ride to Siena very easy to manage as well.

Colle di Val d’Elsa is perfect located for visiting Tuscany and the Chianti cities like San Gimignano, Sienna and Florence, all easy reachable bus public bus service from the close by bus stop – which is ideal for the wine lower. The Tourist office turned out to be very helpful in this respect. The upper part of Colle di Val d'Elsa - "Colle Alta" located on the east-west ridge is perfect for a stroll and a late dinner admiring the old architecture. Please observe that there is an elevator service available close to the hotel to avoid the very steep road up to the ridge. Today the city it is an authentic "Crystal City", producing 15% of the world's crystal.

Very nice accommodation. Everything else positive but the bathroom had a noisy fan - later we learned that bathrooms with a window do not have this. In addition to make your stay as good as it gets, request room from old town side, better views. Highly recommended!

A lovely hotel in a lovely town, very comfortable and welcoming. The management very helpful. The underground garage facility well worth 7 Euros a day. The directions aren't great and we had to ask at Touist Information and a policeman. Good value dinner at Gimmy Gio's round the corner.

The village are just outside the hotel door, and there are no noise when you close the windows, or you could look at the main place from your window. When you are there offer yourself an evening at the 2 star Michelin restaurant Arnolfo. It was realing an evening to remember.

Perfectly located for visiting the old city centre, very short walking distance from the new elevator to the medieval city. Easily accessible (by car), friendly and helpful personnel, good buffet breakfast. Rooms are not well isolated from the corridors and can be noisy. No problems with outside noises though.

The superior room which booked over Venere was more regular and the hotel rooms in reality look not so nice than on the advertsing. Best looks the entrance from the backside. Chef is very nice but other staff especially at breakfast find it hard to say hello and seem a little bit disorganized. The city has a new elevator up to the old town which is for free. Was also surprised that the freeway from Pisa to Florence is for free. We picked this town because it is in the middle between Siena and Florence and near many other places of interest. Around the hotel enough restaurants to have nice dinner and much more cafes.

Good hotel, great staff, great location, great value. I was concerned because the price was very modest. However, the room was worth twice what we paid. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent, central to Tuscany, Chianti, Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa, we even went to Venice (3 hours). The town it was located in was also enjoyable, some parts dating back 1,000 years. Located near town square, so if you like complete quiet before midnight, get room away from square.

Spare, modern hotel inside the shell of a former paper mill though only the large wooden shutters signal its earlier role. Room adequately sized, clean and comfortable. Good bathroom, with a tub! Friendly and helpful owner speaks fluent English. Note that Vecchia Cartiera is in Colle Bassa, the modern part of town, not Colle Alta, the medieval city perched on a hill above. If you want to stay in Colle Alta, book the slightly shabbier (also slightly cheaper) Hotel Arnolfo instead.
