Hotel Quinta das Lágrimas - Coimbra

It was my first time at Hotel Quinta das Lágrimas, in Coimbra, and it is one of the most exquisite, confortable places I have ever been. The furniture in public areas is a combination of ancient and modern, very cosy, and there is even a very nice living room, overlooking the old University, where smoking is allowed; nowadays, this is very uncommon indeed... The rooms are very quiet and confortable, the gardens are lovely and very well cared, the staff is very efficient and nice and I hope to come back again! Yet there is something very difficult: to find the way to the hotel by car!!!

Does not deserve its association w/ Relais & Chateau. We have stayed at other R & C properties and have always been very impressed with impecable quality and service. This hotel needs a face lift. Carpet in the hallways is 1970's orange and brown stripe. Floors in our room were creaky. We asked for double room and got was a room that was clearly intended for 2 singles - they just shoved 2 single beds togethr (not unheard of in Europe but unexpected @ a Relais & Chateau). Dinner @ the restaurant (appartently a one-Michelin star place) was good but, again, unworthy of the Michelin star. The pool area was very nice but because it was off-season, there were no services provided. At the end of the day, it would have been nice to be offered a cold beer or glass of wine but nothing was available. Breakfast was good. The town of Coimbra has very little to offer with the exception of the University and the Se.

A beautiful chateau close to Coimbra city. A special place to stay for a romantic getaway or just to relax. The grounds are outstanding as was the meal in the Michelin starred restaurant. The Chateau itself is a maze of rooms and great for exploring. Kids will love it ! The newer part of the hotel (spa and pool) was clean and well kept and never busy. The rooms were clean with a turn down service at night. We had a garden room which allowed us to sit in our own grass area which gave a little privacy and was only a few steps to the outdoor pool. Our only problem was occasioanlly with the service which was either slow or non-existent. We ordered a pot of tea one evening and we are still waiting for it ! Breakfast is included in the price and is acceptable although it gets a little boring if you stay for a good number of days. Other food around the pool area and for lunch was very expensive. Better to go out and have lunch in the city. Sumnmarising, a beautiful place to stay. Not too pricy and a great experience. Just dont expect too much from the staff who are not bad ...but not brilliant either !

This is a first rate luxury hotel for a great rate. It is lovely hotel in a historic property that once belonged to Portuguese kings - but the photos on the Venere site only show the new annex (too bad.) Very comfortable and well run hotel. The breakfast is excellent. The only restaurant in the hotel is a very formal, Michelin rated affair - quite pricey. It is quite good, but you will have to go elsewhere for a more reasonably priced meal

This hotel is very nice, but extremely difficult to drive to.

I was attracted to this hotel by its membership of the Relais Chateau grouping and by the claimed quality of its restaurant. On the minus side, I had booked a Palace Room but was shown initially to a room on the second floor which was small and rather gloomy. The lift doors would not open on the second floor and the air conditioning in the room did not work. Having declined the first room we were offered a larger room on the ground floor, which again was rather tired in appearance, particularly the bathroom. I then asked for a room in the new part of the hotel but was told that none was available. The restaurant service was good but I did not think that the food quality was up to Michelin star standard; too much cream in every dish for my taste On the plus side, the public rooms in both the the old and new parts of the hotel were well maintained and the gardens and outside swimming pool were very pleasant. I have stayed at other Relais Chateau properties but, unfortunately, I don't think that this hotel is up to their normal standards

Tutto stupendo, camera romantica e confortevole, letto super accogliente, colori romantici, piscina interna abbastanza calda, personale reception gentilissimo, ristorante merita una sosta. Consigliato vivamente a coppie innamorate.
