Hotel Reviews Traiano
Canada, Oct 2009
The plumbing was faulty ( the toilet ran alnight) it kept us up all night and we were exhausted from traveling from Canada

Stayed three nights prior to a cruise. Excellent accommodations (clean, spacious, nicely furnished and decorated) and excellent breakfast area and food; excellent pick up service from FCO airport and drop off service to the cruise port; friendly and helpful personnel; 15 minute walk to seaside and train to Rome through safe and interesting neighborhoods, especially at night. Enjoyed the people, restaurants and quiet setting of Civitavecchia. Our stay met our expectations of a quite and relaxing time in a small hotel in a small and uncongested Italian town to be explored and enjoyed at our leisure.

Breakfast was limited and ran out of coffee attendent was less then responsive. Cruise Ship Port Shuttle although avaliable had very restricted timing. Desk personel were not at all helpful regarding directions and/or local sites and wineries, resturants, etc.

Double room. End of August '09. AC was barely adequate. Room was fairly large and comfortable. Location kind of out of the way, but Civitavecchia doesn't have much to do anyway. Desk clerk made excellent restaurant recommendation (Aqua). Pick up at FCO arranged by hotel went smoothly. Hotel also provided free transfer to cruise ship and had accurate schedule for boarding.

The price was very good for the quality of accomodations in a major port in Italy. We were picked up at the airport on time and taken to our cruise ship on time. The room was spacious and clean. The only downside was the effectiveness of the air conditioner, but that's non unusual in Italy. The price included a continental breakfast that I would rate as "good." The boardwalk/beach area is about a 15 minute walk and worth the time. If you are on a budget and going on a cruise, I highly recommend this hotel. My other recommendation is if you're going to Italy is brush up on your Italian. Once you leave the hotel in Civitevecchia, people don't generally speak English.

This was our first stay at the Hotel. The shuttles from the airport and to the ship were extremely convenient. The hotel personnel were very helpful in arranging local transportation and restaurants. Bedlegs were broken and not repaired, causing a danger with one of the beds.

Hotel très commode pour une nuit avant d'embarquer en croisière (navette gratuite) mais un peu excentré.

We were supposed to be met at the airport in Rome. This had been confirmed by the hotel. However, when we arrived the driver was not there. After a phone call to the hotel the driver appeared within a few minutes. He then drove us to the hotel. Although the hotel was satisfacory we found that the bed was very hard.

It is the perfect hotel for a pre-cruise stay. We were picked up at the airport on time and could share the cost of the ride with other people. When we disembarked, we contracte their services and were excellent too. I highly recommend this hotel for the purpose. Two friends from Mexico

This was the 1st time we had stayed at Hotel Traiano. We had just the one night before catching a cruise ship. It was great that there was a free transfer service to the port. The hotel itself was very clean & comfortable and a good continental breakfast was provided. If we were to use this port again I would certainly have no reservations about stopping at Traiano again.

The Hotel Traino is an excellent place to stay pre-cruise. They will pick you up at the airport and take you to the cruise port the next day. The airport shuttle service is for a fee (reasonable, just pre-arrange with the hotel)and the cruise transport is free. The rooms are spacious and come with a nice balcony. Although not in the city center, there are shops, a grocery store, and cafes within walking distance so you do not feel isolated. The morning breakfast (included) is excellant. The staff is very friendly and helpful. My only complain is the beds are rock hard but ok if just staying one night.

All the staff and managment at Hotel Traiano were very friendly and most accomodating. They answered all e-mails promptly and cheerfully. Where else would they volunteer to open the breakfast room an hour early (at 6:00 am) and arrange for a driver to take us to the train station at 6:20 am? A few quibbles: the room was great except the AC fan didn't seem to be working (fortunately it was a cool spring evening and opening the window was sufficient)... and there was a slight delay in the pickup from the cruise ship pier (how can I really complain, as it was FREE?) Still, I don't think you could find better value or a better team of employees dedicated to customer service (and good humour). I certainly recommend Hotel Traiano for cruise passengers needing a place to stay the night before or after a cruise. Also, despite some negative comments I have seen on the internet, Civitavecchia is NOT "an industrialized port town with nothing to do". It does have a large industrial port area ... but it is clean and modern. In addition, Civitavecchia has a lovely old historical town centre, complete with marketplace and NOT crowded with tourists, to explore ... interesting fortified town walls and small fort ... a very pleasant beach esplanade with outdoor cafes ... and a great pedestrianized central square, also with outdoor bars/cafes. You could even enjoy a swim on the beach. Although Hotel Traiano does not have a formal dining room, it has a great bar and a very ample breakfast room. For dinner, I can recommend the restaurant Aqua, a relatively short and pleasant walk away from the hotel. The prices aren't cheap, but the menu selection and food are great ... and the owner gives excellent friendly service in perfect English. You would pay at least double for an equivalent hotel and restaurant experience in Rome ... and Hotel Traiano can make all the arrangements you need for transfers to/from the Fiumicino airport, and from their hotel direct to your cruise ship.

Fabulous staff at this hotel. The breakfast was wonderful and the transition from land to ship was excellent. Everyone was helpful. Even if you are not travelling to board a cruise, this is an excellent hotel to stay in. Veronica and Sarah are very friendly and the room was lovely.

The Staff was very helpful when asked for directions. When I wanted to go buy some wine, and the shops were all closed, they gave me a bottle of local wine and it was good too!

Very, very nice. The staff was most accomodating and the hotel itself was so very charming.

The staff was excellent, even drove us to a restaurant in the evening. We couldn't find certain locations while walking during the day, and so the evening manager took us personally to his favorite restaurant and arranged for our transportation back to the hotel.

Regarding my stay at the hotel Traiano, We have stayed at this hotel several times an feel that even considering our 1 bad experience, it remains the best value in Civitavecchia. The breakfast is excellent, the shuttle service is fantastic, especially in Italy. The shuttle alone will save 20 dollars on your trip. It is conveniently located and the staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. I will stay here again and highly recommend it to others. Ask about the king suites.

Although we had a confirmed booking for the Traiano, we were "bumped" into a sister hotel the Bramante. The hotel itself was fine, probably one star better than the Traiano - but in a fairly desolate part of Civitavecchia and not suitable for more than one night. The Traiano is in the city centre and suitable and suitable for a longer stay. We used the hotels shuttle services to travel from the airport to the hotel to the cruise port and vice versa for the return - these worked well and were competively priced - and a key reason for chosing the hotels. Overall the hotel/service was excellent for our specific needs.

I wanted stay at Hotel Traiano because of the location, when they picked us up at the airport they drive us to Hotel Bramante the other hotel they own telling us Hotel Traiano was filled I booked this room in Feb. for a stay in Oct. they nerver informed of this switch even though we had been in contact through emails, I was also told this Hotel was an upgrade from Traiano, I did not book for the Stars I booked for the location, and we were not the only ones there were several other couples that were switched as well. We should have been told that if you stay 1 night they move you to another Hotel so we could make the choice as to where to stay. We were not happy with the way we were treated.

The Hotel Traiano employees were very helpful and courteous in arranging transportation for four of us and answering our questions about Civitavecchia and nearby resturants. Thank you! However, it was mid-August and the air conditioning units in the hotel rooms were terrible, almost non-existent. My ratings for this otherise nice hotel would be much higher if we'd been even a little cooler when in the room(s).

Very disapointed with breakfast, ignored by the waiting staff and left to guess if we were to help ourselves, choice very limited.
USA, Aug 2008
The room was very clean. The air conditioning didn't work well. The bed was as hard as a rock. I had shuttle reservations confirmed on 6/9/08 with Ilaria to leave for the port on 8/3/08. We confirmed this when checking in on 8/2/08. I was told that evening that Ilaria didn't put the reservation in the computer. We needed to take a later shuttle. Lastly, we were given poor directions to a restaurant and walked around lost for quite a while. We stayed in another hotel in Civitavecchia after the cruise. We liked them much better. They cost less and had an ocean front view.

We stayed for one night at Hotel Traiano on our way from Tuscany to the Rome airport. The hotel itself was very nice and served our purpose well. The room was clean, tho the sheets were threadbare. The staff was very helpful and the hotel itself was easy to find due to signage and directions from google. We were given two neighborhood dining locations, but both were located in areas which looked a little unfriendly to our "big city" eyes. We did not however experience any problems on our long walk to or from the chosen location. It might be helpful for future guests to be assured of the safety of the neighborhood, if that is in fact true, or to suggest a taxi, or to offer transportation of some sort to these locations. The staff was very friendly and accomodating and their efforts were very much appreciated by weary travelers. Again, the area surrounding the hotel did not offer anything of interest, but for one night stays it served its purpose well.

We selected the Hotel Traiano because it was in the embarkation city for our Rome to Stockholm cruise. The hotel provides free transportation to the cruise terminals. The room we had was very spacious and clean. Breakfast was very good, more food than is normally provided in an Italian hotel. We would definitely stay at the Hotel Traiano the next time we cruise from Civitavecchia.

Service and range of provision of breakfast could be better. Otherwise, this hotel was very good value. The hotel provided efficient transit from Rome Fiumicino Airport, by prior arrangement. With ref to the question below, I wish to sign my review as 'HJ, Wales/Galles' (not 'United Kingdom')

Could not have asked for better. We stayed two nights and enjoyed the town and the restuarant the hotel recommended. This hotel was a very pleasant surprise. Our rooms were HUGE and very clean with lots of conveniences. It was located close to shops and the port, but not in a super fancy area - it was very safe but just not a touristy area. It was an excellent hotel and fantastic value for the price. We would stay again in a heartbeat! HIGHLY recommend this to everyone!

We were met by a charming young lady who handled out registration very quickly and got us to our room promptly because we had been traveling for 32 hours we greatly appreciated this quick service. The air conditioning was excellent and the rooms were very comfortable and spacious. We just wish we would have know about the clothes washer in the room. The parking was fenced off so we did not have to worry about the car. It was a very good if brief visit. I am sure we would stay there again if the opportunity presents itself.

On two occasions, before and after a cruise vacation, we stayed at the Hotel Traiano. Our hosts, Alessandro and Gianni, were wonderful in accomodating us. We have recommended this hotel to many of our friends for their future stays in Civitavecchia. Overall, the experience was more than expected, shuttle service was very accomodating, recommendations for local restaurants turned out to be wonderful. Both men and the staff of the hotel were very amenable to welcoming us to their city, and helpful with any request(even making "american" coffee). The location is acceptable to explore the city and to get to the port if your're taking a cruise. For longer stays, adjacent towns offer the opportunity to explore, and it's easy to get to Rome by train. Mary and I, and our friends, thoroughly enjoyed our stays at the Hotel Traino and would have no hesitation to visit there again!

The staff was wonderful. They were all very capable. The morning we left, the boss had taken the shuttle to the airport. We needed to check out. Immediately the 2 people serving breakfast checked us out and got our car out. I was impressed with the aptitude and attitudes of the staff. They are very service oriented. Consider taking the shuttle to the airport. It is very convenient.

The overall impression is of hospitality. The day after we made the reservation we received an e-mail from Gianni at the hotel. My e-mail questions were immediately answered. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed. A hidden asset was the view of the city from the rooftop. The room was very clean and authentically decorated. We walked to the hotel from the train station enjoying the ambiance, but the walk is a little far and most people would probably have preferred a taxi. A free shuttle from the hotel was available to our cruise ship.

This hotel was superb. It was perfect for our family. We had lots of space, and the facility to cook in the room and do washing,(there was even a washing machine!) was beyond what we had expected. I would recommend it to anyone. There are rooms to suit all, ranging from simple single or double rooms with bathroom, to appartments for five with all the facilities you could want, whether for just one night or for a week. We will certainly be returning to this hotel.
