Location was perfect for exploring the old town of Chiusi, which deserves to be better known. No breakfast availability was a little inconvenient, but an Italian style breakfast of coffee and croissant was available very cheaply in either of 2 bars very close by. The two local restaurants recommended by the offered some of the best meals we had in Tuscany at a very reasonable price. We found Chiusi a hidden gem and the ideal base from which to tour Tuscany either by car or by train and bus. Hotel Sfinge also made a perfect base.

Very nice 2 star hotel. Chiusi an unexpected great place to spend a night during transition from southern Italy to Tuscany. The Etruscan Museum and the Cathedral museum (including underground tour to a cistern) are excellent. Il Bucherro restaurant had good meal for a reasonable price. Did need to take a taxi from the train station to the hotel, it is not walking distance.

We stay one night at la sfinge and really enjoyed chiusi and the hotel. The room had and great view and was very clean and the owner gave us a lift to the car hire place (about a mile down the road) which I consider fantastic service.

La Sfinge is unique! Our room was spotless and very spacious, with pretty touches in the decor. This is certainly not a charmless "holiday inn"-type hotel. The view was gorgeous, and the bed very comfortable. The only downside was the plumbing - we had to get up very early to be on the road and our bathroom taps squeaked loudly. Also, there is no shower, only a bath. BUT plumbing aside, this hotel was a haven, and we were very happy. Chiusi is a gorgeous town. Make sure you go to the Etruscan museum. Then, go early to book a table at the restaurant around the corner. You can sit on a table across the road from the hotel to have a prosecco and watch the sun go down before dinner - bliss!

A convenient location for transfer from the Chiusi Scalo station to rental car or another train line. A surprising quaint little Tuscan hilltop town with narrow cobbled streets and comanding views over the surrounding countryside.

The view from our room was lovely. The room and bathroom were very large. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. They noticed that we had been drinking wine using the bathroom glasses. Unasked, they'd left beautiful wine glasses for us. Chiusi is an interesting town and is a good starting point for visiting other places in the area.

Robert and his wife were warm and welcoming. We had the advantages of being there in the shoulder season so we had the place to ourselves. Robert was very helpful and we enjoyed out stay, unfortunely for only one night. We really enjoyed the town.

The owners of this hotel have done a lovely job of renovating the rooms--or at least our room. The room and bathroom were both very nicely furnished, and the room had a partial view of the countryside, though I expect we were lucky. We managed to squeeze our car in immediately in front of the hotel, but this would probably not have been possible in a busier season. We took the owner's advice and went to a restaurant only a few doors away, which we found good but overpriced. The only downside of this hotel was that it doesn't serve breakfast, which was a definite disadvantage for us as we had to leave fairly early the next morning.

We took a taxi from the train station to the hotel. It was not clear whether bus service was available. The room was huge and quiet, although the windows opened onto the neighbours'patio balcony. Breakfast was only adequate. Hotel staff's english wasn't too good. Location for enjoying the old village was excellent.

One night stay in a triple, which turned out to be 2 spacious bedrooms sharing a nicely outfitted bathroom. The hotel is right in the historic center of town, within a REALLY easy stroll of Etruscan, Roman, and Medieval landmarks. The owner drove us (for a reasonable fee) to our next town, which would otherwise have been difficult to get to.

We only stayed in Chuisi for one night to return a rental car and catch a train. This hotel exceeded our expectations. We parked in a free parking area a short walk (and climb) at the bottom of the hill. Though the lobby area was deserted upon our arrival, a ring of the bell brought the desk attendant, who carried our bags upstairs (no lift). The room was spotlessly clean, with a TV, an Air Conditioner that worked GREAT, a beautiful bathroom with luxury linens. Not well lit, but we find this often in Italy. The lady at the desk recommended a tiny restaurant nearby, and made reservations for us. A quick walk uphill gave us one of our best meals in Italy. The walled medieval town deserves more exploration, but sadly it was time for us to prepare to end our vacation in Italy. Kudos to Sfinge hotel!

This was a great hotel! I was very pleased with the service provided. The staff was very nice and helpful. The room was very large by European standards and exceptionally clean. The hotel is the only hotel in Chiusi that is near the historical center of Chiusi and trust me that is a WONDERFUL location! Great prices too! I will definitely stay here again when I return to Chiusi which is a charming little town and a wonderful place to visit.

This was a nice hotel. The owners were very helpful. We were travling with 3 people, this was the only place that we had two bedrooms. It was really nice. The air conditioner was in only one of the bedrooms. I would definitely stay here again. We were only here 1 night, but wished it had been a few days longer. The Etruscan underground caves were very fasinating.

We reserved 3 rooms at La Sfinge for one night in early October, and we kept on talking throughout the rest of our trip about how wonderful and accommodating both the hotel and the proprietors were. The rooms were very spacious and all the bathroom fixtures were very modern. There were a few other hotel options available near the train station in Chiusi Scalo, but we all agreed that the taxi ride was well worth it. Upper Chiusi is very charming and quiet and has some wonderful restaurants.

This is an older, but very well maintained hotel in Chiusi. We very much enjoyed our stay here and enjoyed the peaceful evenings with the locals on the streets. The hotel does not have a restaurant, but there are very good places to dine, all within a couple of blocks of the hotel. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Our stay at La Sfinge was wonderful, but too brief unfortunately! We would definitely return, as Chiusi is very charming. It would make an excellent stopping off point for visitors with a car to explore nearby town like Montepulciano or Chinciano

Value was very good. Roberto and Laura tried very hard to accomodate but language (english) was a big problem. Parking was also a problem. Don't pay extra for breakfast...not worth it. If nothing above bothers you, it's a very cute little village and very convenient if you're driving and are looking to visit many of the hill towns in tuscany and umbria

A very nice hotel in the upper town of Chiusi.(older & picturesque town, versus Chiusi Scala, 2 km away where the train station and many factories are.) Close to main street (Etruscan Museum, etc.), but quiet. Proprietors helpful and friendly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at LaSfinge. Roberto, the owner/manager, couldn't have been more helpful or accomodating. The room was beautiful and very large. Chiusi is a tiny hill town, with several nice restaurants. Our only reservation about the hotel was the breakfast; it wasn't. A roll wrapped in celophane with some jams is not what I would call breakfast; there were fresh bakeries in the town which offered fresh rolls. A small investment in these would have been worthwhile. Otherwise, it was an absolutely wonderful location to visit both Umbria and Tuscany.

The hotel is clean and quiet. The owners are friendly and helpful. The view from our granddaughter's room was a high point of our trip to Italy. Several good restaurants are nearby. Chiusi is an attractive town with an excellent Etruscan museum. We enjoyed our stay so much we stayed an extra night. The owner drove us to the station when we checked out. We would definitely stay there again.

We only chose to stay in Chuisi, as it was an easy 2 hour drive to Rome airport. But it’s a lovely town, quite small, but very quaint and we enjoyed our 2 nights at La Sfinge. The owners were very helpful and went to a lot of trouble to re-confirm our flights to Australia, for which we were very grateful. They also recommended 2 restaurants for our evening meals, which ranked amongst our dining highlights. The room was neat and clean and very well appointed. We fell in love with the little blue Tiffany lamps. From our balcony we had glimpses of the fabulous Tuscan countryside. Highly recommended

Staff was especially helpful- especially the young man (sorry I didn't get his name) who was very caring- carried our luggage, made phone calls for us since we did not speak Italian- was very generous with his time and help. We were very pleasnatly surprised.this small hotel could easily be compared to most of the 3 star hotels in which we stayed. Room was clean. comfortable and had a great view. We would stay there again if in the area.
