We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. There is a nice garden where you can relaxe. It is easy to find and there is free parking. The staff was very helpful. I would have prefered to stay in the main building rather than the annexe but it was fine.

A very enjoyable stay at this hotel. On our reservation form I stated that we were senior citizens and as I have a spinal problem, not too many stairs would be appreciated (no lift). On our arrival at 7pm we were greeted warmly and asked if they could do anything for us. Our room was a beautiful room with double windows, very clean bathroom and the most comfortable beds we have slept in for many a night. Yes! and on the 1st floor, easily managed.I can only assume our request was received and taken into account. The hotel courtyard/garden where breakfast can be taken was a delight. If one is travelling on as we were to the Dordogne the Buffet breakfast at €9.50 will set you up for the day. Or you may have coffee/rolls etc. Nothing is a problem at this hotel. The hotel itself was originally a large house, full of character and typically French. Free parking is available across the street in a large square, (note the market is on Thursday, but free parking can still be had beyond the statue of Joan of Arc). This is explained at reception. The hotel has no restaurant but is just a couple of hundred yards walk to a huge variety of eateries. We settled on a very laid back, but popular with the locals eatery in the main square. One could have one course or four at very reasonable prices. Two crepes or similar, 1 dessert, 1/4 litre white wine and a 1/2 litre red for €25. Not bad at 9.30pm. and no hurry to vacate the table. We would recommend this hotel and will be back, next time for 2 nights as it is a good base for visiting Saumur etc. Only downside from fellow travellers, too many stairs on a narrow staircase with heavy luggage. upper rooms can be smallish. As we were only one night, a wash bag was sufficient as towels and soap/hairdryer were supplied.

Charming old hotel in great location near the weekly market (Thu). Comfortable beds, large bathroom, very nice breakfast, free parking across street. Great base for discovering the Loire valley, and at a very charming price.

Maybe the rooms in the original part of the hotel are acceptable but the annex is not good. Breakfast was poor value for money and overall, not a good choice. If you like a bohemian hippy like feel, then this is for you, otherwise avoid.

Spent 2 nights here in July in the the annexe Coté Jardin- twin beds but not a lot of room for suitcases. Staff very welcoming and carried bags up narrow staircase. This annex is like a typical new style (but aged) hotel- not a lot of charm! No shower- handheld shower head in bath so struggled to wash hair. Had to park outside in public parking spot but no fees. Good positoning. Usual continental breakfast. Good value for money

Type of rooms need clarifiying - 'Room with a balcony' is not exactly that, it is part of a modern extension and the rooms are all along an external balcony, they do not have individual balconies for each room - and it is more of an outside corredor as there is nowhere to sit on it. These rooms are not old like the rest of the house and have no character at all - just square unappealing rooms, also very small with very little space for storage, clothes hanging etc.

We arrived one day after planned and reserved, because of a national festivity which left us stuck in Chartres. The first night we had this old room, not very nice, but clean and spacious. But the second night they moved us to a room-suite. What a difference! This is a very nice, very well appointed room, decorated with taste and some luxury. They have some tea facilities all around the place, which is nice, specially when you arrive late and tired. Location is great. Just a few steps and you are by the river and a beautiful "plaza' Chinon is a beautiful, small village and our experience with the villagers was great. They are very nice, welcomming people. And you are close enough to visit some other lovely towns around. Definetely would return to this hotel.

We received a very warm and friendly greeting when we arrived and we found the staff/owner most helpful during the time we stayed at the hotel. Breakfasts were excellent and worth the money. Our room was on the second floor and climbing the stairs was a first class aerobic exercise. Our room was spacious but in need of decoration and the bathroom was good, clean and adequate. The bed was massive and very comfortable.

A 50s age US couple from NY spending a few days in the Loire area, west of Tours - this was a good spot. Room small, but clean with a great air conditioner (important in August). Quiet. Good buffet continental breakfast for E 7.50, a good value in a pleasant veranda room with many windows. Small double room for E65/night, booked late, we thought that a very good cost/value. We really enjoyed the Abbey Fontevraud and the gardens of Villandry chateau both reasonable distance fron Chinon.

Stephane and Natalie (husband & wife) were absolutely the kindest and most helpful hotel owners that we had the great pleasure to deal with on our trip - and we had some trouble! (Our car had broken down, we needed repairs...) They went way above & beyond what we could possibly have hoped for. And the location of the hotel is fine, a delightful 5 minute walk to the very heart of Chinon, and free parking across the street. Also, a pleasant interior garden. We absolutely recommend this hotel !!!

My only regret about the Hotel Plantagenet was that we had not planned to stay longer. The owner/receptionist was delightfully friendly, helpful, and courteous. He changed some of our rooms for even better ones, since they were not full, when he saw the size of the bags of some of our American group participants. We were also able to park for free right in front of the hotel Next time I come to Chinon and the Chateau area, I'll plan to stay here again, but I will try to arrange the stay for another day besides Monday. This little town closes up on Monday apparently, however, we did eat at an outdoor café at the end of the plaza in the town center which we thought was one of the best meals of our trip.

We were treated very well by our hosts; they were extremely pleasant and helpful regarding places to eat, where to ride the bicycles we rented, etc. The staff was friendly as well. The only thing that was a bit off-putting was the exterior of the hotel--it looks much better in the photograph. However, once you're inside, it is fine. The room we had was spartan and quite small, but very clean. Great bathtub--very deep and roomy and perfect for a good soak after a long bike ride! We parked our car about 1/2 a block down the street, and never moved it in the two days we were in Chinon. (The parking was free, by the way.) The hotel is in a great location; everything is within walking distance. Overall, our stay in Chinon was fantastic--the town is beautiful and charming; it was a most enjoyable time.

Breakfast was excellent. Very good service from the staff who spoke English, which was very handy. Very helpful with booking local tours and helping with the quirky train schedules. They have Internet access in the hotel for guests too, which is handy except it was temporarily out of service the time of our visit. Beware the Chinon train schedules with a bus icon--they really mean bus (or "coach") and not a train!

My husband and I took a train from Paris to Chinon for a weekend in September. Since the hotel was not busy while we were there they let us stay in a family room so we really enjoyed the space compared to the other European hotels we stayed in. The owners were wonderful and spoke English very well. A delightful experience!

This is a lovely, small hotel in a beautiful small town in the Loire. It is across the road from the Vienne river, just at the outskirts of the old section of town in Chinon, and at the heart of the Loire valley. The proprietors are extremely friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. Hotel breakfasts were very good and included (in addition to the normal French offerings of breads, tea, and coffee)cereals, fresh fruits, meats and cheeses, various fruit juices, and homemade jams! I heartily recommend both Chinon and Hotel Le Plantagenet for anyone wishing to explore the Loire or even just spend a quiet, relaxing weekend in a lovely town.

Small, family-run, typically French 2* hotel. Everything obviously in good state and super clean (bathrooms spotless and fault-free). Friendly, helpful family (v. good English if you need it). The hotel really corresponds to the level of 2 stars hotel. It is situated almost in the center of Chinon not far from the main streets and the castle. The rooms are small but there is everything required and it is not a problem when you come there only to sleep. Also there are rooms with view to the castle. The breakfast was very good, one of the best from all 2 stars hotels where we stayed during our trip in France. The owners are very kind and they can express themselves in english quite well (what is very seldom in France). We would come again for 1-2 nights.

The owners of this hotel spoke excellent English and were extremely friendly. We had a room in the Maison Bourgoise, which I gather were the nicest rooms. Our room was very spacious and well furnished. The bathroom needed renovating and the shower was ordinary, washed the wall more than the body, but that was our only negative comment. The hotel was a short walk to the main square in Chinon which had a range of restaurants, cafes and bars. There was a bar and cafe in the same block aswell which was convenient. There was a major free municipal carpark right across the road. The photos available on the website do not do this hotel justice.

When we arrived, the owners offered us rooms at the garden side of the hotel-very quiet- for the same price as the rooms we reserved. Breakfast in the sunny room in the middle of the garden was great. We liked staying in this hotel. But one point to make it better: Please install a socket in the bathroom! And a little more space for the clothes would be great!
