Not so much a hotel as a conference centre for middle grade employees. Dinner conversation with other guests revealed general disappointment with the real product, suggesting considerable overstatement as to the quality and service. Rooms were small and drab, furnished with bland fittings for which the pleasant bathroom was no compensation. Separate and cramped toilets are inappropriate for this type of accomodation. Service was appalling in the restaurant, which was far below the quality indicated by the menu and price range. The wines were good but the red was badly served, and the food did not live up to description, although the cheeseboard was excellent, albeit without bread or biscuits being offered. Dishes were served haphazardly with huge gaps between courses, of which nearly an hour was the longest. We sat for half an hour before a drinks order was taken, and nothing got better as the evening proceeded. Overall, a real disappointment for an evening planned as special. Not a hotel for treats, and beware of the travellers camp in the adjacent grounds.

The Chateau is located outside of Chantilly and entails taxi rides each way, which can mount up especially on Sundays when at premium rates. Otherwise the quality of service at the Chateau is excellent.
