Looking out to sea, the Villa Venezia is a charming Chania Old Harbor hotel within the heart of Chania Old Town. In the evenings, you can join the locals as they take their evening stroll around this picturesque harbor before choosing one of many traditional Greek restaurants on the waterfront for dinner. There are many cafes and bars on your doorstep and the beach is nearby.
The Villa Venezia Hotel is named after its Venetian builders, who first constructed the harbor around 400 years ago, when the Venice still controlled much of eastern Mediterranean. The building has been lovingly restored into a small hotel, which is ideal for those who want to be in the lively core of this beautiful historic seaside town, made up of a mix of Venetian with Turkish architecture.
You can arrange boats tours here and get all the information you need from the hotel's friendly staff. The Villa Venezia Hotel also has a special agreement with Cafe Gallini, located just 15 meters away, entitling guests to a 10% discount. Last, but not least, free wireless high-speed Internet access is available in all hotel rooms.

Villa Venezia is perfectly located in the heart of the enchanting harbour of Chania. The room (studio) was as we imagined - large, very basically furnished (narrow sheets, blankets) but clean. However, there are a number of stairs to climb (no lift) so it is not suitable for the very elderly or disabled and is a bit of a stretch with heavy suitcases if you're not too fit. A good breakfast was available at a nearby restaurant at a special price although with a kitchenette-type arrangement we often had breakfast in the room. Nadi, the hotel manageress, was exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our one week stay. She isn't there all the time and there is no reception area as such so it was rather more like being in an original B&B than an hotel. Unfortunately we hit bad weather so didn't do as much travelling as we had originally planned but did visit all the WW1 battle sites with a friend which are highly recommend as is the naval museum on the seafront. There are any number of good restaurants to choose from in the charming old town but try to eat away from the harbour where it's cheaper. Try Kusina (in the old Turkish area) and Tamam which is just behind the hotel. We would definitely go back again perhaps earlier in the autumn but were warned to avoid the high season when the harbour is packed. In all it was a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

This was by no means a luxury hotel, but the location could not be beat, nor could Nadia, the manager. we arrived early in the morning and from the beginning of our stay until the end, she was helpful, accommodating, informative, and a pleasure to meet. There are some narrow steep stairs to negotiate with a suitcase, and some noise from the harbourfront, but the hotel in in the centre of the old town, is clean, and very convenient for everything. For the price we paid, this hotel is a steal and we will definitly stay again if we return to Crete.

This was perfectly located for what I wanted overlooking the Venetian Harbour. Room view was great. Noise at night, but that's to be expected in this kind of area. Welcome from owner was good, no other staff I could see. No real communal areas, this is old Venetian building with extremely steep stairs so unsuitable for the less able (or less fit!). Room was quaint as was bathroom both in layout and fitments; not really self-catering very little cooking space, and close to bed ... but so many restaurants you wouldn't bother about that! Overall a good stay and I'd recommend Chania to anyone.

Located in the old town with a very nice view on the harbour. Animated district with lot of taverns around. Owner very friendly, available at night time for late check in. Owner speaks and writes good french and english, which is a plus. Available for local explanations if asked. Comfort is basic, no pretention. Room at second floor with small fridge only: No kitchen. Fits well for travellers out of the room most of the time (not convenient for travellers wishing to spend time resting in the hotel). Global Appreciation OK Quality for Price OK.

A fantastic location and cheap compared to that. We got a warm and heartly welcome and found out that we had been upgraded from a double at the back to a spacious and newly renewed studio with a fantastic view.
How to reach Hotel Villa Venezia
By car
From Heraklion, Rethymno or Souda: you must drive towards Chania Town Center. On your right, you will see a covered market. Then, after three sets of traffic lights, you will see a big red sign for the Kotsovolos electrical appliances store. Take the first right into Pireos Street and continue until you reach the sea front. The Naval Museum will be on your right and the hotel is only 200 meters/218 yards further along. It is best to park your car in the Naval Museum's car park. Cross the Korali Tavern on the ground floor and then you are at the main entrance. Ring the bell on your right.
By bus
From the bus station: walk along Kidonia Street to the center of town. Cross over 1866 Square on your left and continue onto Halidon Street. At the end of the street, there is a small square with a fountain dedicated to Eleftherios Venizelos. Cross the square and continue to the sea front, where the hotel is located. It takes approx. 10 minutes on foot. Alternatively, take a taxi which costs around €5,00.
By airplane
From Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport: the closest international airport to the hotel is Chania I.Daskalogiannis International Airport. The hotel recommends that guests take a taxi from the airport to the Old Harbor of Chania, which costs approx. €18,00. Please note that the old harbor is open for cars until 11 a.m. only. After that time, your taxi will stop at the end of Halidon Street, near a small square with a fountain dedicated to Eleftherios Venizelos. Cross the square and walk left along the sea front to the hotel. Depending on the traffic, the taxi could also stop at the car par near the Naval Museum. From here, you turn right and continue on foot to the Old Harbor. After passing the museum building you will see Villa Venezia Hotel.
By ferry
From the Port of Pireus: Anek ferry lines run a regular service to the port of Souda, which is located around 6 km/4 miles to the east of Chania. From the port take the bus going to Chania at the bus stop, located at the exit of the port. Get off at the last stop and continue by foot in the same direction as the bus. Turn right at the third turning (Halidon street) and at the end there is a small square with a fountain, dedicated to Eleftherios Venizelos. Cross the square and walk left to the sea front, where the hotel is located. Alternatively, until 11 a.m., you can take a taxi to the hotel entrance, which costs €10,00.
