Being 4 km from Chamonix with no car we appreciated the good quality evening meals which were available. All the staff of this family run hotel were friendly and helpful. The view from the bedroom was magnificent. We loved our stay in Chamonix.

No parking available when we arrived mid afternoon, in fact when the hotel is full there is inadequate parking, staff not really bothered about where you are going to put your car. Hotel is generally a bit rundown, we had no realy problem with that but we were very disappointed with the meal, this hotel is a Logis de France and the food is rated as "2 cooking pots" - definitely not, very chaotic service and poor meal. We felt there was no management interest - on the night we ate in, there were young staff who were doing their best but just couldn't cope. altogether a disappointing stay.

Small but beautiful hotel, good breakfast, kind employees, quiet, good internet. Highly recommended for families with children near to Centre of Chamonix. Free, safe and good parking lot.

Travelled with partner and my 5 and 10 year old in April 2009 for our 2nd main skiing of the season. Arrived very late and relieved to see both receptionist and the old friendly labrador (mentioned by an earlier reviewer) stay up to let us in. The hotel is set in a village and is by far the largest building but it fits into its surroundings magnificently. It has a room for reading or chatting with a roaring fire, a pool room, a cards and recreational room; as well as a dinning room with a small bar. We also saw a pool for the summer. The rooms were spacious. We had one with a double bed plus bunk beds. Complaint here is the shower unit. It was hand held only; no wall fixing nor shower curtain. We had dinner on 2 nights. The first was superb. A set menu only. Complaint here is that the kids menu did not change and their meal was over cooked on our second visit. I must mention the balcony and the spectacular views. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel. We even extended our stay by one more night; we were that relaxed and comfortable in its surroundings.

A great bargain! The room was small, but that was okay as it was a single room. It was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom looked like it had been recently updated. Charming and a pleasant surprise all around. I hope to come back!

1. Balcony/terrace wide, fine and view unbelievable, but the surface of terrace was untidy. 2. More information about traffic connections to and from the Excelsior Hotel to web pages. Perhaps also some specific information (links) about local services like skiing quides and off piste quides during skiing season.

THE HOTEL IS VERY NICE FOR ITS CATEGORY (NOT LUXURY), THE STAFF IS REALLY WORRIED ABOUT CUSTOMERS REQUESTS, THE LOCATION IS GOOD, BUT TO EAT SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE BUS (FREE IN CHAMONIX) AND GO TO THE VILLAGE. THERE IS NOTHING COMMERCIAL SURROUNDING THE HOTEL, BUT IT IS NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL. I RECOMMEND THE HOTEL, NICE STAYING, KING STAFF, GOOD ROOMS.

It was a little way out of the action (and a bit tricky to find when we arrived at 2am), but was perfect for accessing Le Tour and Argentiere. The rooms were clean and we had a fabulous view. Staff were also very helpful....providing mountain info, bottle opener & wine glasses, and a push out of the deep snow when we got stuck our last morning! We would definitely stay again.

Room was great for my family. It was simple and clean. As it was off season, the hotel was quiet and staff attentive. The kids loved the friendly dog that greeted us at the front door.

I was travelling alone as booked day before, hotel had all details so no issues checking in. On reflection would have stayed else where as hotel very family oriented (not a bad thing)sometimes felt uncomfortable, especially at dinner times as made to feel like being squeezed in. Was woken a couple of nights by noise coming from other rooms one time was at 05.00 in the morning sounded like a party?? generally though not serious complaints just observations.

Great, small hotel for skiing/snowboarding in the Chamonix/Mont Blan area. Short drive to either Chamonix or Argentiere for jumping on lifts, friendly staff, clean, with a nice breakfast buffet and unbeatable scenery. A tad difficult to find, but not too bad at all. Would recommend to anyone...
