I enjoyed a very good stay in the Hotel Katane Palace for 4 nights. It is well located for the main attractions of Catania although the immediate environment is not very attractive. Although the surrounding areas appears a bit run down I never felt unsafe. In fact, I very much enjoyed wandering around the hotel as the there was a very pleasant atmosphere and the locals appeared very relaxed and friendly. My only slight criticism is that I didn't find the breakfasts very inspiring: they were OK but I don't think Italians go in for breakfast in a big way.

Pleasant hotel which looked after us well. Breakfast was a bit chaotic one day due to a large group all trying to eat at once. A problem with the room safe was solved quickly and competently. Particularly helpful reception staff. Free non-alcholic drinks in the room.

Fast and free internet in room. Free mini bar in room. Nice Michelin guide restaurant in hotel. Breakfast with fresh orange juice, ham, cheese, different kind of breads. Not right in the city center but can walk to Duomo in 15-20 minutes.

No superior twin rooms available as requested and paid for. Breakfast and lunch very carb and protein orientated . Absolutly no local fresh fruit or salads available , only tinned fruit and ham cheese/ pizza ish kind of food / sandwiches . Pretty tough on us figure conscious ladies! The location of hotel is fantastic with magnificient views and theraputic clean waters for swimming in. Older unrenovated rooms are expensive enough with prices on par with 5 star hotels in Ireland.Bathrooms are very basic. There was a lovely mix of all ages and nationalities. I would consider this hotel most suitable for adults.

The Katane Palace Hotel is a very nice place to stay in Catania. The hotel amenities are good and the staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were lovely and the resuarant menu was interesting, although expensive. The service at the lobby bar was excellent. The area around the hotel is a bit frightening and (like most Sicilian cities, quite filthy). Our stay was pleasant but not worth the 135 Euro per night expense. We stayed there on our own because it was the hotel our tour group used for several days and we returned there on our own after a post-trip excursion to Napoli. It was easy to leave our bags there and just take a small valise for our excursion. The hotel is only 4 blocks from a stop for the Alibus which takes you to and from the airport. The Alibus only costs 1 Euro while a cab costs about 25 Euros. There are several good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel (Pagano, Il Ficodindia), but nothing outstanding. I would seek a less expensive hotel, closer to Via Etnea and/or Piazza del Duomo, if we ever return to Catania.

I stayed in this hotel in 2003 and at the start and end of my recent visit to Sicily. I found it to be of excellent value with a good restaurant and a fine wine list. And they found the GPS receiver I had left in my room and are forwarding it to me at no cost. I would have no hesitation in staying here again if I were to revisit Catania.

Location is a weak point. On the other hand, a strong point is the hotel restaurant: excellent food, service and wine list.

high quality central location with secure under ground parking. Very good sicilian food and very welcoming staff. We would warn potential visitors to keep their cars locked while driving in Catania as young boys will pull open your car doors when stationary at traffic lights and steal your handbags etc etc.
