Nice little pension in the heart of Catania, very good located for shopping and sight seeing of the town. Only public parking nearby. Rooms are nice and spacious but no internet and only italian TV. Breakfast is ok. We really enjoyed our 5-day stay.

We were looking for a simple hotel for our last evening and night as we had to leave early morning, but we felt Rubens has a lot more to offer than that. Our room was lovingly decorated with good vintage furniture, the easy chair was a nice touch (perfect for tired tourists). The room was very clean and staff are nice people. Via Etnea is a noisy street, but the hotel is very well insulated and indeed smack in the middle of town. Sorry we had to leave before breakfast.

Stayed here for one night on 1/10/09. Paid 55 Euros per room per night including breakfast. This was just a practical overnight stop, arriving on an evening flight and setting off to Syracusa the following morning. So we were looking for nothing special at a reasonable price in a convenient location. We were surprised by what we got for the price. A comfortable and quite spacious room with an attractive wooden floor. Noisy if window open; air conditioning in room which we did not use. Very friendly and helpful owner. Simple, but good, buffet breakfast with a reasonable choice. Located on Via Etnea about a 5 minutes walk from the main Cathedral Square. The airport bus, stops almost outside, but goes a long way round, so it may be quicker to get off by the Cathedral and walk. About 25 minutes walk from the train and bus stations.

Staying with a small child we didn't appreciate the men hanging around the entranceway to Rubens. It did not feel safe and they kept trying to engage our son in conversation without referring to us. The room was very small and cramped. The bed was comfortable. It was hot and there were lots of mosquitoes. The aircon was very noisy. The manager was nice and friendly and the breakfasts were OK. Nice staff. Difficult to find as it is only a doorway amongst shops and other doorways on a busy street. We expected more for our money having staying in cheaper, safer and much nicer places elsewhere in Sicily.

We stayed for 1 night at the Rubens hotel and wish it could have been longer. The hotel's location is excellent. The room was huge, breakfast was quite good, the staff in general was nice and friendly, and the owner Salvatore in particular was wonderfully helpful and caring. Wonderful place!

Very good location, very warmly accepted and catered for us, women are very friendly - definitely recommend it to everybody. Very large and spacious room, great breakfast, a center-spot - everything you need to stay in Catania. This hotel 1 star, but he really deserves 3 or 4 in Italy.

Excellent location, stayed for 2 days, prices and services above 1 star hotel, it was well worth staying there, an unexpectedly pleasant family hotel. If what you are looking for is to spend more time visiting and walking and just a cosy, clean place to wash and sleep, I recommend this hotel. Go eating some other place than the trattoria across the street, walking to the dome you will find a lot of better and cheaper locations. Within walking distance from center and very well communicated.

Hotel Rubens is officially my favorite hotel in Catania now. I fly in and out of Catania often and my flights are usually early in the morning so I tend to stay over the night before. I just found Hotel Rubens on my last stay and I couldn't have been happier. It's a family run business and they really make you feel like they've known you for ages. When I returned from an afternoon walk the father greeted me at the door with a big hug and kiss and a welcome back, just so sincere and kind. When I arrived the daughter of the family checked me in and said that they thought I was 2 people so they had quite a large room for me but I had no idea just how big she was talking about until I saw it...... It was enormous! One double bed and two singles, two balconies one overlooking the main Via Etnea with an amazing view of Mt Etna and one overlooking the smaller side street. If you stay here ask for room 3! The breakfast was better than any budget hotel I've ever stayed at with eggs, pastries, warm croissants etc. I was so pleased. The location is great as well, less than 5 minutes to the main piazza, 2 minutes to the market and right above all the shopping. Absolutely recommended!!

Very welcoming staff, clean rooms, central position, but very hard to find. Information about getting into the hotel would have been helpful eg through wrought iron gates etc. Once there our stay was very good.

The only problem that I have had is that no employee could speak a minimum of an other language than italian (english for instance). They should make an effort on this in the future.

We were glad that Catania was the last place we stayed on Sicily as the city is dirty, noisy and run down - in complete contrast to the rest of our holiday. The hotel is clean and basic. Although located in the centre of Catania, this is not a goog thing! The hotel is off a busy street. Finding somewhere nearby to eat was a problem. We stayed for one night in order to make an early flight home and one night was more than enough.

My wife and I were extremely impressed by both the charm and quality of the bedrooms and the hotel in general and by the friendly and helpful owner/manager Signora Loredana. The hotel is located right in the middle of all the historic sights on Via Etna, the main street in Catania, with easy access by Alibus to/from the airport. An excellent breakfast is served each morning in a well appointed dining room. We both feel that this was the nicest hotel experience we had in our three week tour of Italy and @75euros nightly definitely our best value!

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Rubens. Loredana greeted us upon every arrival. She was very helpful with restaurant suggestions and making our reservations for Mt. Etna and our cab ride to the airport. She was very patient with our attempts at Italian and, when we failed, she knew a bit of English, as well! Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We were able to catch the bus to the train station within steps of the entrance to our hotel.

One of the main reasons for choosing Hotel Rubens was the location, which turned out to be excellent. Secondly, several sources (travel books, reviews etc.) suggested that the hotel was a top rated accomodation with a friendly and helpfull staff. Rubens even managed to exceed our high expectations. The delightful Signora Loredana helped us a great deal with a sudden problem that came up with our return flight. She arranged an extra night in the family`s other hotel, B&B San Micheles since Hotel Rubens was full. Without her help, we would have faced major difficulties.
