A third of our stay while in Italy was at the Hotel Tenuta di Ricavo. It was, by far, our best stay in Italy. The owner, Christina, was wonderful and very, very helpful. I cannot overstate how great the overall experience was. If I have the opportunity to return to Italy, Tenuta di Ricavo will be my first stop.

First off, excellent driving directions from Florence were provided by the hotel owner, who was an untiring source of information and direction for exploring the entire Chianti region. Our room made us feel as if we living in someone's wonderful country home--spacious, unique and comfortable. We took morning walks on well marked trails about the property. Though the weather was too cool for us to use the pool, it was a wonderful and inviting site, again with the feeling of being on a private estate rather than a hotel. We met a delightful family from the Netherlands who were returning for a second visit with their children and their parents.

How to reach Hotel Tenuta di Ricavo

By car
From A1 Milano - Napoli highway, exit at "Firenze Certosa". Take the Fi-Si national road and exit at "San Donato in Poggio". Turn left, crossing the bridge over the free-way. You are now automatically on SP 101. Proceed on SP 101, following road signs for Castellina in Chianti. Between the towns of San Donato in Poggio and Castellina in Chianti, on the state boarder between the provinces of Florence and Siena, the route SP 101 will change to route SP 76/a. Continue on the SP 76/a. On route SP 76/a, between 3.lll and 3.ll, turn left, following signs to Ricavo. The signs indicate a chapel and a cemetery. Attention however, the turn off comes immediately after a big curve and if you are driving to quickly you will pass and miss it. Drive down hill on the Castellina County white gravel road (strada bianca) for 1 km (a little bit more than half a mile). At the bottom you will find a sign for Tenuta di Ricavo.

From A1 Napoli-Milano highway, exit at "Val di Chiana", take the 326 road from Sinalunga to Siena. At the junction around Siena, follow directions for Tangenziale and Firenze (Florence). You will automatically be on the SI-FI free-way.

From Siena take the SI-Fi "Raccordo Siena-Firenze", following the Florence direction. Exit at Monteriggioni. Turn right on the route SR 2. Pass Castellina Scalo. At the end of Castellina Scalo, turn right, following the signs for Castellina in Chianti. You are now on Route SP 51, straight on until route 222. Proceed on 222 until the roundabout town centre (right)/Radda (straight)/San Donato (middle left)/Poggibonsi (sharp left turn). Take the road in the middle left direction San Donato. After the ice cream, take the route SR 76/a.

By train
There is no public transport from the railway station. Please take a taxi to reach the hotel or request a pick-up service when booking.
