Hotel Cidadela - Cascais

We last stayed in this hotel about 14 years ago and it is just as good now as it was then. It has obviously lost a star because the bathroom(s)have not yet been upgraded, but as ours was spotlessly clean it really didn't matter (its still the only hotel shower I have ever used that didn't drench me in cold water whilst turning it on!). This can be the only reason that the price is so reasonable compared with other hotels locally. The view from the rooms (which all face the same way) more than compensates for the walk up the hill! The area has lot going for it and we hope to return sometime soon.

It was our first time in Cascais and we stayed for only 3 days. The hotel was very nice and corresponded to what I had read about it. The free breakfast was excellent. My only complaint was that it was a little bit out of the way from the area that I liked which was the older part of the city (where there were most of the cafe's and nightlife) and not on the waterfront. It was within short walking distance( 5-10 minutes) or a short bus ride, but being in a new place with a language that we didn't know and for such a short stay, we spent a good deal of our time getting lost. This was not helped by confusing and sometimes contradictory directions from the desk staff.

This hotel is a good one and I definetively reccomend the staying. Only two points: 1) a bit too expensive for what it offers, 2) it is close to a noisy road; it did not bother me because I was at 4th floor, but I think it can be a problem if you are at lower floors. However, everything else was OK, I enjoyed particularly the pool!

This is in my oppinion a standardhotel with an extra plus for the garden and poolareas and its spacious rooms. Friendly and skilled staff but the hotel and especially the bathrooms are in need of renovation...
