The hotel manager was very friendly and helpful, offering us the choice of the room. Also, we had dinner at the hotel and it was very good. It is possible to walk to the sea within a few minutes.

We only stayed one night, but it was very positive and we would sure come back. The people of the hotel were so kind to prepare a dinner for us very late at night (on the terrace and with a good wine). The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, only the bathroom was a bit small. The staff was very helpfull to indicate us the ancient ruines of Paestum

The two gentlemen at the hotel that we worked with at the hotel were incredible nice and helpfull, helped us with train schedules, advice on seeing the Greek ruins, made sure the taxi driver showed us the beach, volunteered "next time we stay" to call them at the train station and they would call a taxi for us (we don't speak Italian) or pick us up themselves. Wow. I can't say enough about how helpfull they were. The room was a good value, not too fancy, but air conditioned, clean, and a great value. Stay at this hotel, they deserve your business.

They provide the absolute best service during our stay in Italy. We suddenly had a medical problem and they helped us for hours contacting people. The breakfast and dinner are excellent too.

Probably the best hotel we stayed in during our Italian vacation. Because of low season we were the only guests and we received exceptionally friendly welcoming, including pre-heating of the room before we arrived. Corrado (the owner? manager on duty?) was extremely helpful and friendly. He managed to book us at no notice for an exclusive wine tasing dinner which was one of the highest points of our trip. Even for low season travellers the hotel is highly commendable.

This place has had no maintainence since it opened in 1997 - just compare the photo to the real thing. Cracked plaster, empty fountains, cobwebs, holes in walls, a piece of modern art that once resembed a patio umbrella. You could laugh at all that but it also didn't have any hot water and one room (of our 2) had blocked drains. Noone to speak English either which makes explaining these problems a tad difficult. We did get a home baked cake in the morning in addition to breakfast and a free pen though.

Il faisait froid ce jour là... et le chauffage était très INefficace. D'autre part, petit déjeuner mauvais et pas varié.

The shower tricked, hot water needed 10 minutes to reach its max, but it was nice. The owner was nice and helpful

We were almost alone. The room was open on a private large patio. Private free parking in front of hotel. Elevator and ramp for luggage.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at paistos. There are only 10 rooms and so the service and attention on half board are personal. We were the only British people there which we enjoyed. The owner spoke good English and was helpful and friendly. Our room was the best in the hotel and had a superb well equipped balcony. The air conditioning functioned well and was realtively quiet. Sheets were not changed regularly. The evening meals and wines were good. The breakfast was adequate but uninspiring. The details mentioned access to a private beach but this was not available. This was a great base to explore the lower part of Campania which is not on many British holidaymakers' itinerary and was very enjoyable. We can heartily recommend this hotal and resort. Good value for money.

We only stayed for one night. The only obvious minor complaint was the amount of damp on the ceiling of the ensuite bathroom. It badly needs cleaning and repainting. Other than that the staff were excellent and we would return to this hotel if we were in the area.

Homelike hotel. Mama and her daughter are very kindness and loving. However an air-conditioner in a room is noisy and hardly warm. Flush the toilet next door hears.

We stayed for 2 weeks in the hotel. We enjoy the stay very much. The Staff was very friendly and helpfull. The dinner was very good, also the wine. There is a 2-3 Minute walk to the beach. So, its a nice hotel and a good place to start trips in the area.

While there are a few things which could be said in favour of this hotel, it has to be said that my stay at Hotel Paistos was quite unpleasant. Firstly, the room I had, which was above the kitchen was extremely noisy. The sound-proofing is very poor; the wall between my room and the neighbour's bathroom was so thin that I was often disturbed by a great deal of clanging and banging from their shower-cubicle etc. When I had asked to be moved to another room on account of the noise from a screaming baby my complaint wasn't taken seriously. Had the opportunity been granted, I would have left Hotel Paistos and checked into another hotel. The room itself was quite unclean. The bed, for instance, still retained the fluff and hairs of the previous patron. However, the room and bathroom were very spacious and the air-conditioning worked splendidly, which was much appreciated in the heat of August. Secondly, despite its name and the "map" provided by the hotel, Hotel Paistos is not very near the archaeological site of Paestum. In order to reach the site or the nearest train station (which is not Paestum, but Capaccio Scalo) one is obliged to use the taxi-service provided by one of their acquaintances, which costs 12Euros each way. Although the owner seemed very keen to deny it, there is a bus service from Laura Mare (c. 2mins from the hotel in the opposite direction of the beach) to Paestum, which only costs 1 Euro; however, I am not sure how regular the service is. The hotel is very close to a private beach for which one pays - by special arrangement - the reasonble sum of 8Euros for the use of two deck-chairs and an umbrella for the day. The dining area was very modern and stylish and the food was excellent.

The owner was very welcoming and made an effort at breakfast to ensure we had enough coffee and juice. The room was large, clean and comfortable, but the shower cubicle had a lot of mould around doors and tiles. The room had its own sunbathing terrace. The hotel has a bar, where we were given a cup of coffee in the evening, so we found it overall a pleasant place to stay while visiting the area (in spring) and good value.

The hotel is set near the coast and crearly oriented to the summer season. We stayed there in spring, and logically it was empty and quite run down.

We stayed at the Paistos in the off-season (February). The staff was very pleasant and most anxious to please. Paestum --the ruins and the towns nearby-- are delightful in February. On the beach near the hotel we found excellent restaurants fairly priced and serving excellent sea foods. The hotel itself is most pleasant. We were delighted with both the hotel and the services offered by Venere in finfing the Paistos. John Mark Krenkel
