Hotel Sotavento & Yacht Club - Zona Hotelera, Cancun

A good lodging for 1-2 nights, for example on arriving or leaving Cancún via airport. Very nice terrace to sit and have breakfast, the jungle-like garden in the center of the building is likewise attractive. For longer stays I would always recommend one of the hotels on the beach front. Public access to the beach is a busdrive away from Sotavento, which is on the lagoon-side of the hotelzone. Rooms are very rustic and loud (power station of air condition on lagoon-side wall of the building). Eine gute Unterkunft für 1-2 Nächte, bsp. bei Ankunft in und vor Abflug aus Cancún. Terrasse mit Frühstück war klasse, ebenso der dschungelähnliche Garten, von dem aus die einzelnen Gebäudekomplexe abgehen. Für einen längeren Aufenthalt würde ich jedoch stets eines der Hotels mit Strandzugang wählen. Ein öffentlicher Zugang zum Meer ist nur mit Bus oder Auto zu erreichen und wenn man in Cancún ist, will man in dieses unglaubliche Wasser. Die Zimmer sind hier nämlich relativ laut, da die Betriebszentrale an der Wand des Gebäudes zur Lagune hinaus angelegt ist, dort gehen auch die meisten Zimmerfenster hinaus. Vor der Rückreise, um die letzte Nacht ruhig zu schlafen, habe ich mich in einem kleineren preiswerteren Hotel in Cancún Zentrum einquartiert.

Overall, an "ok" stay. price is low but what you get for it too. Staff ranged from frosty to nice but incompetent to very nice and really helpful. make sure they dont give you a room on the ground floor. muggy, musty. didnt see the rooms upstairs. having a big roach run around in the bathroom because the grate in front of the bathroom window was missing didnt help. breakfast is really poor (toast, butter, jam, cornflakes). food in general was very expensive and mediocre. Think I'd look for something else next time.

We loved the huge jungle-garden and our nice and clean rooms. The taxi was nicely arranged at 6 PM to bring us back to the airport. Thanks!

We spent 4 nights at the Sotavento Hotel and Yacht Club and had an excellent time. We came to Cancun to enjoy the beaches, visit Isla Mujeres, and as a jumping-off point for a few days of travel to Valladolid and the interior of the Yucatan. We wanted to see what Cancun was about, but wanted to avoid as much as possible a lot of the overt hedonistic American spring break stuff. We were not interested in being pampered or many of the other things that might attract someone to a resort area. Sotavento is a budget hotel, and as such, provided excellent value for the price. It's conveniently located on a quiet street off the main drag of Blvd Kukulcan. It's less than a five minute walk to the boulevard, where you can catch the bus or taxi to anywhere else. Directly across the boulevard is the Embarcadero at Playa Linda, from which you can talk a ferry to Isla Mujeres, as well as a few over-crowded and hard to access beaches (take the bus elsewhere) Next to the hotel is a little shop selling water, snacks, beer, and liquor. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful- paths wind through a "forest" full of trees, tropical flowers, and birds. Everything is impeccably maintained, including the pool which has a simple volleyball net. There is also a lawn overlooking a marina, and you can lay out here and watch the boats coming and going. The staff is laid-back and friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. The open-air restaurant and bar next the pool was a welcome refuge- excellent breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a good variety and reasonable prices. Eating and drinking here was a very laid-back experience. Our room was large, clean and comfortable overall- the towels were a little ragged and slightly stained, but this didn't bother us as they smelled fresh, as did the room in general. Our room had exposed light bulbs, which was a little glaring. Besides these criticisms, this is the sort of place where you can be satisfied stayin

The hotel was AWESOME! Pool right outside our rooms with a swim up bar. Beautiful yachts sitting in the water just a short reach away. We arrived and within a half an hour of being there met Jorge Diego, the owner operator of the dive shop. On his boat and diving! WOW! What an adventure! Jorge and his whole crew where FABULOUS!!! They took care of our every needs! The public beach was a short walk, and everything was in a short distance. For the price you just can't beat this place! Beds were a lil hard, but who is here to sleep? :o)
