Hotel Richelieu - Calais

This is a modest hotel.The owner is doing his own renovations so I imagine completion will be lengthy.Bathroom was large and modern but a shower curtain would have been nice,but baths provided a pleasant change.Staff was very helpful.Great location.Good value for the price(half of anything else in town)

This is the first time we stayed in this hotel. A priori, being under repair, we initially were surprised. But the renovated rooms are beautifully decorated. And the surprise was pleasant. With the addition of a magnificent view of the Richelieu Park. Hotel very well located between the station and beach ... A single flat, small in itself, a single pair of towel for a couple is insufficient in the bathroom. Note also the lack of towel and a shower curtain to avoid flooding the bathroom. But we do not regret our stay. If we have the "opportunity, we hesitate to stay there. Best regards

This is a very pleasant, smallish hotel. Decor a little jaded, but the location is very handy, it's close to the main street connecting Place D'Armes and the centre of Calais, but a little way down from it, which makes it relatively quiet. There is a museum of modern art next door. Our room offered a good view over the Parc Richelieu adjacent, which means most of the rooms/balconies are not overlooked by other buildings, and the bird song from the park in the morning was great! There are plenty of restaurants, bars and shops within easy reach of the hotel. The manager spoke good English, the Continental breakfast was good and plentiful,the beds were most comfortable and the rooms clean, so the overall experience was very good for the price. We will stay there again.

Clean,comfortable Hotel in convenient location. Decor/floring is tired but do not expect 5* in a 2* rated hotel and at 1* rates. Ambience is perfect if you want a simple, typical good French experience. Staff very attentive. Easy to locate. To ensure reception, let them know estimated time of arrival -simple. Re.other review comments about curtains - Use the shutters; this is France!! Excellent value. Highly reccommended and I shall certainly return.

Sheets were washed but full of stains which was a bit off putting...even the spare sheet was stained so we had to ask the reception for new ones - the reception wasn't even available when we first called (the guy was not at the hotel) so we had to wait until he returned to get fresh ones. There were no curtains in our room either which we found very awkard. We were only staying for one night so it wasn't too big of a problem but if we had been staying for more nights we would have found the sun very frustrating in the morning if we wanted to sleep..Other than that though, we didn't find the hotel too bad, it was spacious and cheap and the bathrooms were clean and they had adjoining rooms for families which was good.

Overall it was a good stay, there are beautiful gardens just opposite the hotel but the outside gives off the wrong impression of whats inside. The inside is rather pleasant with a homey feel and the bath is fantastic. The main doors to the hotel were locked when we first arrived and we had to go on to the streets looking for a pay phone to find out how to actually get in. But generally, it was a nice stay and the staff were very helpful and friendly!

Staff were good and helpfull. they really need to get on with refurbishment, Centreville is well worth looking at.
