We arrived late on a Friday and then hired a car from Saturday morning, so it suited us well for the proximity to the Calais ferry terminal - approx 15min walk. Parking was not a problem either, for those with cars. We were pleased to find plenty of cafes and restaurants still open around 10pm for our late dinner. It is good value for money with helpful and polite staff.

We were very impressed by the charmingly beautiful standard of this hotel, a sumptuous shabby-chic interior, with a warm friendly atmosphere. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend it to anyone. It has 3 stars I think, but we would rate it 5, as its equal to some top hotels we have tried in Kensington. As you can tell we liked it and would recommend a stay to anyone - its fabulous.

This is a fantastic hotel and we cannot praise the quality of the hotel, food and friendliness of the staff both at reception and in the breakfast and dining rooms. We will certainly go there again.

This was our second visit to The Meurice and we will certainly return. Our only disappointment was that the excellent restaurant was closed during our visit.

This hotel suited us perfectly for a planned visit to Nord-Pas de Calais to view three local exhibitions and the church at St Jean de Baptiste Bourbourg displaying the work of english sculptor Anthony Caro. A strong reason for choosing Hotel Meurice was its location just behind the main art museum in Calais. Hotel was fine, although only when we got there did we discover that they were offering special discounted prices for UK visitors if they could pay their bill in sterling and cash.

Great little hotel - public areas a little shabby but that is part of the charm - lots of fabulous antique furniture. We didn't have breakfast because at 12 Euros we thought it rather expensive.

This was my 4th stay at the Meurice and it was as enjoyable as ever. I would always book a superior room - these have been refurbished to an excellent standard recently. The superior rooms are in keeping with the overall 'period' character of the interior of the hotel, which is one of its many charms. The hotel is excellently situated in the town.

We have stayed at the Hotel Meurice 3 times and this past visit we had the smallest room ever! It is spotlessly clean and the people are always very friendly. I'm sure we will stay there again - however, it's worth getting a deluxe room instead of a standard one.

Hotel Meurice was our last stop on a journey from the Midlands to Italy and back. It was by far the best of our overnight stays, with a very comfortable room with coffee-making facilities. We ate in the hotel restaurant and had a delicious meal in the very intimate room, exchanging holiday stories with the other diners. It was a great end to our holiday.

We do not usually stay at the Meurice when we go to Calais (at least twice a year), but from now on, we'll stay here. Best of the lot in Calais.

Lovely rooms, real French charm, easy to find, 10 minutes from eurotunnel. Food in hotel restaurant ok, but we had expected more from a French restaurant. Our first but not last stay

THE HOTEL WAS AS EXPECTED, AND 'SHABBY CHIC' IS A GOOD DESCRIPTION WHICH I FOUND ON ANOTHER WEBSITE. VERY GOOD FOR AN OVERNIGHT STOPOVER WITH CHILDREN IN A FAMILY ROOM. BREAKFAST HAD TO BE SKIPPED AS DINING ROOM WAS FULL AND WE HAD TO BE OFF.

For the 2nd year running, we used the Meurice for a one-night trip to France and found it an excellent and comfortable hotel. Parking is easily available at the front and the hotel is very well located.

Just an overnight for a break. in a great place. very quiet but just a short walk from everywhere. 10 minute walk from the station. would reccomend it. the restaurant is pricey - the main street close by has tons of restaurants to choose from so check them out first. will stay again.

A delightful period hotel in the middle of town. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and bright but the 'old fashioned' feeling came through. We had evening meal in the restaurant - it was not cheap but the food and presentation was to die for. It was well worth every penny of the 43E per person for the three courses. You really must try the chef's home made nougatine dessert - WOW. Continental breakfast was taken in the Conservatory - another excellent meal and good value at 9E per person. We will certainly return!!

We had to wait 10 minutes outside of the garage to enter, our waiter left the restaurant before we did and we had to enter the kitchen to find someone to provide the bill. The room walls are thin and noise from an adjacent room woke us several times during the night.

The Meurice is an 'old fashioned' hotel with a pleasant character. The restaurant is first rate (we had the menu of the day which was both imaginative and very reasonable). We have returned and will do so again.

What a find! So nice to find a hotel which is nicely decorated in a traditional style and well staffed. Receptionists VERY helpful and welcoming. Bedroom quiet, small but adequate and very nicely decorated. Nice ambience in restaurant, good value menu marche at €15 and good friendly service. Breakfast good and varied. Very convenient for the main shoping areas of Calais. Strongly recommended!

Unfortunately, this hotel rated as the worst on our trip itinerary. We found the staff unfriendly at the hotel. However, the restaurant provided a much nicer atmosphere and the staff there were very nice and professional. The general appearance of the hotel is 'shoddy' and it seems that without too much expense, certain pieces of furniture/carpeting could be replaced. There was underground parking, albeit very cramped, but we paid for that. We did not feel safe in the area and we were sorry we didn't stay in Dunkirque or a surrounding area hotel. The linen was clean and the bed was fairly comfortable, but the hotel price did not include breakfast unlike all our other hotels.

We changed our original booking to another date and when we came to pay for the changed booking we were told that we had already been charged for the original booking as it had not been cancelled, although we had confirmation that it had. However, on paying for the changed date booking the original charge was cancelled.

Apart from the welcome (when we were kept waiting for a long time despite staff knowing we were there) the hotel lived up to our expectations as we had been before. As ever, the furnishings in the public areas were very much in need of restoration giving an impression of badly faded grandeur. The food in the restaurant was super, if expensive.

The hotel is a gem. Forced to stay in Calais we were expecting very little. The exterior belies what waits inside. Charming faded elegance with beautiful beds and a marvellous restaurant. We fully intend making the sea crossing again purely to eat in 'La Diligence' and stay the night. For the price - perfect.

We enjoyed our night at the Meurice. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. No noise to be heard, which was great. The only complaint I would have is that by 9:30 in the morning, there was not much breakfast to be had in the breakfast room. I would definitely stay there again. The location is perfect.

Excellent hotel and food in the restuarant. The buffet breakfast (help your self) is good. The hotel is near Notre Dame church and its clock tower but the good thing is that the chimes are switched off at night.

Being off the beaten track the hotel was quiet and had the added security of the underground car park. The room was well appointed with excellent bathroom and toilet facilities. the service in the bar was first class and the meal we had in the hotel resurant was superb. I would highly recommend the Hotel Meurice and if the area we will definatly stay there again.
