Hotel du Beffroi - Calais

Easy acsess to city europe and town,good value for money breakfast was good and staff frienly

Very good globally, a few drawbacks : - Staff very kind but speak french only (from what I have seen). - Rooms are ok but noisy (you can hear everyone's breath while sleeping)

The Hotel is conveniently located, especially good if you come across from UK on ferry without car as it is just near yacht haven right in town. The room was accurately described, but €7 each for breakfast in a modest hotel is too much so we passed. €4 for a simple coffee, juice, roll, cereal should be possible. Parking is not too bad.

This was a return visit to Calais and the Hotel du Beffroi. I stayed in the same room as before which was spotlessly clean with crisp bedlinen. It's a nice little simple hotel which manages to be very quiet despite its location just off the main square. I have no complaints whatsoever and would recommend it as ideal for a few nights in town and the location couldn't be beter.

My main reason for visiting Calais was to see an exhibition and luckily the hotel I usually stay in was full so I stayed in the Hotel du Beffroi instead. It's a very small simple hotel, located on a side road but only 100yds from the Watchtower on the Place d'Armes so it couldn't be more conveniently located. Despite there being a funfair in the the square when I stayed, the sound-proofing is excellent because it's very quiet inside and I didn't hear a thing. The house-keepng is bullet-proof and the compact room I stayed in was spotlessly clean. It had a small comfortable double bed, good hanging space and a very nice modern ensuite. The staff are friendly and helpful, although they speak very little English one can muddle-through with a combination of schoolboy French and a lot of good will on their part for my atrocious language skills! It's a perfect location with the gardens of the Citadelle at the far end of the road (5 mins stroll), Place d'Armes and the free bus to the town centre (2 mins) and the yacht basin (5 mins dawdle). I would say it's the perfect location to stay in Calais overnight or for a few days and I will be using it again.

Comfortable, clean and freshly decorated 2 star hotel. Absolutely ideal for a couple of days in a pleasant town. Ideally sited right in the centre of the town. Would have no hesitation in staying again.

The breakfast drinks were not very good. The noise problem was largely some people talking very loudly at a cafe across the road, but there was also a lot of banging of doors in the morning. Otherwise it was all good.

I had a vey nice family room at the back of the hotel(room number 2 I think) that had double doors that opened onto a small garden. Despite Calais being very noisy (bars etc) the room was very quiet excepting once when I heard people going in and out of their room next door, but this is completely normal. Very pleasant reception staff.

When we arrived all we could smell was paint and the bed for my son was broken on arriving the receptionist had good english when we came down to complain in the morning she could barely understand what we were saying how ever they did put us up in another hotel for the 2nd night which was not so bad
