hi the room was fine what we expected for the price and everybody was friendly and helpful many thanks

great value for the price.breakfast pretty good also.only drawback is that the bathroom is small and using the shower could be a problem for an older/less agile person.

This place is fine if you are a student on a budget and have to spend time in Calais. if you are anything else I would strongly recommend not staying here or in Calais generally - drive on thru or just get on the boat. It really is little better than youth hostel grade accomodation.

I do not like the bunk bed style rooms, more twins would be an inprovement. The hotel offers a reasonable stay for a reasonable price

waited a long time for receptionist to arrive to check us in, she then seemed to be the bar maid and jack of all trades. reception smelt like it had been flooded, furniture broken and shabby. Stairs to second floor bedroom a death trap, only room for one person at a time, if there had been a fire, no one would have gotten out. The shower was practically unusable, the door opened onto the toilet with no room to get into the shower. My wife and niece where both bitten by something! No lift for disabled people and disabled parking spaces narrower than ordinary car spaces. To me it had the look, feel and quality of a bygone youth hostel. At 40 and 50 euros a room not even that cheap.

Interaction with staff was o.k. The hotel is in a very good position in Calais but is in urgent need of a complete refurb. The price was good but quality very poor(very mouldy bathrooms dirty carpets)I suppose at the end of the day you get what you pay for!!!

Looks as though could be updated a bit better but thought adjoining rooms excellent for families. Very central and handy for restaurants, etc, arrival times really excellent without having to worry that ferry arrives in time before hotel closing usually 9.00pm. Breakfast was excellent value for money a lot better than most cheaper branded hotel groups. Have been to Calais many times staying in different hotels and would definitely consider this one again.

Shame the rooms smelt of cigarette. Dommage que les chambres sentent la cigarette.

1st room the toilet seat was not attatched to the toilet and the second room the sink had a crack running all the way around it. The shower is ok if you are small in stature as the door hits the toilet so you need to be thin and not obese. Beds are soild so if you like a hard bed excellent

Good value but fairly basic facilities and breakfast. Handy, cheap and acceptable to use as a transit base through Calais though had changed its name from when we booked it so we didnt find it immediately. Shower area was very small for a 6ft 2 broad shouldered male.

We stayed one night in double with on suite. Adequate but rooms and fitments badly in need of renovation

We use this hotel on our crossings to the UK to avoid the cost of english hotels. The facilities are basic. The breakfast comprehensive. Walking distance to town. Hotel interior rather worn. Badly needs doors repainting. Rooms comfortable and clean.

This is a clean hotel, which is in a good, central location. Rooms are small and basic, with decent en-suite facilities. The staff are very friendly with two out of three who we dealt with speaking English. You get what you pay for and this hotel offers good value for money. We will certainly be using it again.

We have often visited the Bonsai and this last time with our 3 grandchilden, they thought the hotel was great and we have always enjoyed our stay there. Very clean but basic (we know we are not paying for a luxury hotel). The staff are very friendly. We will be back again! Thanks Linda & John

Very easy to find from the ferry port.even though we arrived in the early hours of the morning it was nice to have a reception open and a smiling member of staff to welcome us. Good car parking also.

I was really disappointed to find that they don't do "No Smoking" rooms. I am sure on a previous stay last year they did and it was one of the reasons I returned. My room however on both of my recent stays smelt very strongly of smoke.

You get what you pay for. The staff were really welcoming and helpful but the room was noisy and a bit shabby, the bathroom and particularly the shower were too small and smelt, as did the hallway. It was OK for an overnight but not longer. Location in the centre of Calais is good for restaurants etc.

This hotel is very close to the ferry habour. Our room was simple (no wardrobe, no chair) but had all we needed to sleep for a few hours before continuing our trip. Rooms for three people come in handy.

Functional accommodation - suitable for travelling family needing a stop over. Good situation in relation to the town. Friendly help full staff.

Only a one night stay with wife and 2 small children. Old adage of 'you get what you pay for' applies. Staff were helpful and friendly enough, breakfast was good. Room was a little bit too cosy for 4 of us and a little cold but on the whole good value for what we needed.

This is the fourth time we have stayed here. It is ideal for an overnight stay prior to getting a ferry back to Dover. Would not recommend staying for any longer

Price/quality ratio is comparable to rivals such as B&B, Premiere Classe, etc. Clean, comfortable, excellent city centre location with free parking. Would stay there again,

get what you pay for. it was a cheap room for after a ferry crossing. the room was small cold had lino and was white and yellow. the bed was hard. i;d only go back if it was essential. the double bed had a bunk above it which seems to be common in french hotel chains. nevertheless i would choose a triple rooms for 3 adults. the bunk is like a coffin.

Bonsai Hotel is a good place for an intermediate stay on the way from the Continent to England. The rooms are plain and tidy. The staff is very friendly. The prices are reasonable. We stayed there with three children two times and were satisfied. I can recommend the Bonsai to my friends. 9/9/2007

It took us a while to find the hotel at Calais, but once we did, we were more than happy with the room (the car parking) and the service and would definitely consider staying there again in the future.(Shame about the weather though!) Thanks!

The beds were rather hard. Didnt mind the smallness of the room so much as we just needed a place to stay over night. But didnt sleep well due to the beds. Otherwise a nice place to stay for the money, espically for a short stay.
Mature couple
United Kingdom, May 2007
First time my wife and I stayed at this hotel, we found the rooms very basic and the bathroom tiny - the shower door would open half way before it hit the toilet! The lady on reception was friendly, very helpful and spoke good English and we can't complain too much about facilities as the room for a night was only @ £26. If you want somewhere to rest your head after a hard day booze shopping it fits the bill but if I was staying for a leisure break I would look for something a little more luxurious. Dave Huddart

This was our 2nd stay here. It is a handy place to stay one night prior to catching ferry to UK, there are good restuarants nearby, plenty of car parking and very easy to get to ferry terminal. It is fantstatic value for money if you are not too fusy on where you sleep

Excellent place to lay your head if arriving on the ferry and in need of somewhere cheap and cheerful
Young couple
United Kingdom, Jul 2006
Ideal place to stay for an overnight stop. 2 minutes walk from Calais town centre and the main restaurants, plenty of car parking and 5 minute drive to ferry terminal. Do not speak French to the arrogant bar maid as she ridiculed me for my poor pronounciation (even though I had spent the prvious 15 nights in France speaking French with no problems)

station restaurant across road very convenient and of good quality, the Pirate pub (turn left) 5 minutes also excellent if you do not have a lot of time.

Unfortunately I have had to cancel my reservation so I can't fill this review. Nevertheless I am very satisfied as I call the hotel by phone only 2 hours before the time limit to cancel. They told me cancelling must be done by internet but i was on holiday with no internet access. So they cancel my stay in their hotel and called themselves your site to cancel my reservation. When i came back from holiday I checked if I was charged the answer is no. Thus I can say they are very honest and I am totally satisfied. By the way you should add another button indicating we cancelled the reservation as I can't click 'continue' if I don't fill this review, which I honnestly can't do ! So Select 10 everywhere.

Good location for a stopover either when arriving by ferry from England or train from other parts of the Continent (over the road from ferry bus stop and Calais Ville train station). Basins are rather small and awkward to use and rooms lack a central light. Otherwise a good bet and the coming refurbishment will no doubt enhance general quality.

Excellent value small room; good bed, hot shower great for a straight forward functional stopover. I was initially worried by the billowing clouds of cigarette smoke in the public area, but the quiet non smoking room was completely smoke and smell free.
