The people esp. Alex is the best thing about King's Palace. Very personable and helpful staff. If you can get beyond the entrance and the 100 steps you must climb each time you enter the hotel, you may be OK. The rooms themselves contain nothing but beds (2 out of 3 were broken). No mirrors, lamps, luggage shelves or dressers. The toilet and shower were all in one.Breakfast never changed from a hard boiled egg, 3 pieces of bread, cream cheese, jam and Nescafe. We compared it to living in a bombed out building due to the visible elevator shaft and holes in the stairway. All that being said, it was do-able for the price and put you in the heart of old Cairo. We also felt safe. Definitely not a place for the elderly or anyone with a cardiac condition.

Great employees, best of the best. The room was clean when we arrived, but not during our stay(10 days). The surroundings, well it isn't the best neaberhood. The pick-up service was great for less than 10 euro to the hotel and a nother 10 to the airport. ps. 4 floors up no elevator !!!

I stayed for 3 nights at this hotel (or is it a hostel?) in April 2009 accompanied by my wife and 2 children (aged 12 & 10) Having come across positive reviews for this hotel on 2 sites I decided to take the plunge and make a booking. I don't regret this decision and overall I would say that Kings Palace offers really excellent value for money. I would describe this as a 'cheap & cheerful' option best suited to younger travellers who are on a budget. However it was also perfectly acceptable for my family (for a short stay). On the plus side I would stress the excellent location within easy reach of the Egyptian Museum. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast provided was quite good. The rooms were large and clean, the shower worked quite well and the beds were reasonably comfortable. There is a metro station nearby, as well as a good low-priced restaurant. The downside is the noise from the nearby streets and the poor condition of the building, towels and bed-frame etc but all of this is tolerable for a short stay. The first impression when you arrive is not very good but that's why the price is low and in terms of value for money, this is a good place to consider. However I would think twice about it if you are not prepared to make some compromises in terms of your personal comforts.

Hello! We don't want to recommend this hotel at anyone!!!! First of all: they promised by mail to pick us up at the airport at 1:00 PM. Nobody came!! When we arrived at the hotel at 2:00PM, with 2 little children, after climbing a awfull stair to the 4th floor: THERE WHERE NO ROOMS AVAILABLE!!! They sent us with all our lugage to a "nearby" hotel where we had to sleep in een triple room ( instead of he quadrupple room with private bathroom), wich was terrible! They are absolutely not honest. We booked the room, months in advance and we payed far too much for our stay there! Please, don not recommend this hotel at your site, Venere!!! Best regards!

The hotel is very ok, price is ok, service ok, roms are big and clean, water presser is low, bathrom/toilet is very smal but ok. Staffs are friendly and helpfull. Safe. The hotel is located at 4th. floor so if you have condition problems or bad helth this is not a hotel for you because of the steps. Not much street noise in the rooms at nigth. Beds could be noisily. Close to city center. Generaly ok hotel for young travlers with tight budget

Rooms are big, clean and bright, toilets (both private and shared ones) could be better. Staff are just incredible, friendly, helpful and always willing to go out of their way to help you. They provide excellent information on Cairo and all Egypt. We organised our trip to the rest of Egypt at the hostel and we were amazed by the organisation and price, it would have cost us the same if we did it by ourselves! Egypt is one of those places wre independant travel is more difficult than elsewhere, so a combination of doing it yourself and tours is a great combination. Highly recommended hostel that offers excellent travel advise in Cairo and Egypt, tell them where you want to go and they will organise for you, or if you dont know where to go they will recommend.

I chose the Kings Palace due to it's central location in Cairo, it was also the cheapest place that I came across. Although the entrance can seem a little tumbledown and the six flights of stairs daunting, this is made up for by the friendly, family feel of the hotel. It felt like an oasis from the constant hustle in Cairo's streets. The staff were extremely friendly. Upon our morning return from a trip to Luxor with a long wait until our evening flight, the Kings Palace stored our luggage and allowed us to have a shower despite having checked out a few day earlier! The golden four poster beds were also a sight to behold. This is a great budget hotel for any young traveller.

We, two adults and four children (12-17), arrived at the hotel at appr. 02.30 hrs in the morning, utterly tired after a 12 hour long journey from Holland. The only thing that failed our appreciation was the fact that, previously unknown, the hotel appeared to be located at the fourth floor with steps double the size as usual. Pretty much exhausted we fought ourselves to lobby level. However, the staff was very kind and helpfull and carried our luggage (lots of it for the rest of the journey) upstairs. The pick-up service from the airport was very well organised and moderately priced (EGP 130,00 (appr. 18 Euro's) for two brand-new cars). Future guests should not bother negotiating private taxis at the airport. Overall, a very pleasant stay at the hotel with an excellent price/quality standard.

For the price the hotel is good. The only drawback I found is the entrance. The first floors of the building in which is the hotel are in ruins and abandoned
