Hotel African House - Cairo

The Hotel is very basic and the only convenient thing about it is the location. It is 3 minutes walk from Orabi Underground Station and 10 mins walk from Tahrir Square. The room was very spacious, although not very clean. The sheets were dirty and the floor had not been hovered in ages. The bathroom had a very high ceiling and I could hear the noises from the communal toilet used by other guests that did not have en-suite. Also, the flush did not work and hot water in the shower was intermittent. Breakfast was OK, just a piece of bread with some cheese, marmalade and tea/coffee. I have stayed at cheaper places and they were much nicer and cleaner. The guy in reception tried to sell me an overpriced tour of the Pyramids as soon as I arrived. I am planning to go to Cairo again but will stay elsewhere.

We felt so welcome in the african hostel,our room was so large with kingsize bed(as we requested)and nice balcony.They offered many free services like drinks,wifi etc.The location is nice in the center.You can get the most of sights by walking.

Excellent value in a very convenient location for sight-seeing. I must add that for the rates charged you can only expect basic facilities. The en-suite room was large and clean but its details needed minor repairs. Washing water was hot and plentiful in a small attached shower-room and toilet facility. Breakfast consisted of tea, fresh rolls, jam and a boiled egg provided in a room with an amazing view over the rooftops. The hotel is reached by lift to the 3rd and 4th floors of a once magnificent building built in about 1860 with large rooms and high ceilings. The bed was comfortable. There were a few mosquitoes about -- take or buy locally anti-mosquito cream and spray. The staff spoke English and were most helpful in every way. They did not try to sell tours or anything else.

The african hostel was one of the best choices you can find in cairo.They have huge rooms with multi colours and so nice balconies.The staff there is the best,nicest and most helpful in egypt.They offer many fre services like hot drinks and internet.This will be our place in cairo if i come back.

I really recomend this hotel. It has a very nice location, in the middle of downtown and very nice people working in it. Muy recomendable, está situado en pleno centro downtown, y el personal muy amable. Muy buena relación calidad precio. Un lugar entrañable.

Staff were really polite, friendly and helpful at the African House! Building is a great 19th century period house, and room itself had a great balcony and lovely high ceilings.Free internet and breakfast of bread,eggs,jam and tea was included. These extras and a great staff were definitely a bonus!

Location is great,close to most of spots.Clean & huge rooms.The best staff ever in egypt,very polite and friendly.They have so perfect organised tours to aswan and luxor.We would stay here again
