We enjoyed our stay at Meson del Cid. The room was spacious and clean with a lovely view of the Cathedral - superb value for money. There was a little street noise, but not so that you wouldn't be able to sleep. The staff were friendly and helpful and could speak English, which is a big help!! We didn't eat at the hotel (a bit too pricey when travelling on South African currency!)

We have stayed before at Meson del Cid and it is an excellent stop-off point en route to Santander from the south, as well as being a very convenient place from which to explore Burgos. However, this time we had real problems with access to the hotel due to the fiesta - it took us nearly 2 hours in baking heat to reach the hotel in the cathedral square since everywhere was closed off, with electronic bollards, etc. Some warning in advance of the fiesta would at least have alerted us to expect severe delays. Other than that, the view of the cathedral from our room was splendid, and we had a fantastic vantage point from which to watch the spectacular firework display at midnight, celebrating the end of the fiesta and Spain's victory over Germany at football!

We were put in a well-appointed room at the back of the original hotel, which was fine as it was quiet. Looking out of the window on our final morning we discovered a vegetarian restaurant called 'Gaia' just behind the hotel. We wished we'd spotted it earlier. I believe it's only open for lunch (13.30-16.00). You can access the Internet from a PC in the guest lounge next to the breakfast room in the new wing. The bedside radio in the room was on the blink, but a good range of channels -incl. a couple in English- was available via the telly.
