A magnificent old hotel close to the Grand Place. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. It has been the setting for a number of movies and we will look for it when we see them again. There is an old open elevator which was out of service on 2 occasions during our 4 day stay which contributed to the charm of the hotel and gave us an opportunity to burn off some of the calories we had consumed.

The Metropole is very centrally located, it is close to the main shopping street in Brussels and also many restaurants. Being a movie fan, I really appreciated its location right opposite the UGC cinema, which has many screens. The Grand Place is also a short walk away. I was very happy with the breakfast provided at the hotel as well. The concierge and staff were always helpful and friendly. For sure, I will be back at the Metropole when I am next in Brussels.

My daughter and I had a wonderful 3 nights stay at The Metropole Hotel. The hotel is older and worn but still gorgeous and historic. Our room was lovely and the bathroom was modernized and very big. The beautiful lift everyone mentions is being renovated until November 2014 so it was not available to use but you can still see it. Our room price included the buffet breakfast which was very good and recommended. The surrounding area is attractive and right near subway connection which is convenient however there was an element of homeless/loiterers that made the area feel slightly odd. But there were always lots of tourists so we felt safe enough. We had our worst meal eating at the Metropole restaurant but it was lovely to sit outside and watch the people go by. I recommend a drink and snack but not a full meal there. It is an easy walk to the Grand Place where we I highly recommend the free Sandeman walking tour at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm - incredibly informative. We took the tour toward the end of our stay but wished we had done it first thing. The Metropole is a historic hotel in a good location so I do recommend it. We found the best price including breakfast on venere.com.

Was unaware of coty tax charge wich was c€10 per day...worked out quite expensive. Also got a dress pressed, this cost €20 which I thought was over the top. On the plus side, bReakfast was excellent a great variety of food. Staff excellent and our room was super. The location of the hotel was super. Overall I was very pleased that we stayed there.

The Metropole Hotel oozes character that harks back to a more romantic age, and while it is luxurious it is not pretentious. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The location in the heart of the city is ideal for sightseeing. The food in the brasserie is fresh, well presented and reasonably priced and the breakfast was excellent. I got a lot of pleasure and exceptionally good value for my money and would definetly recommend this hotel to a friend.

I was traveling for 7 weeks in Europe I inadvertently booked the Metropole for one night on June 1. I intended to book for June 2 and fly back to he US on June 3 I did not realize my mistake until I arrived at the hotel a day late. My fault! I asked for a room and a good rate since now I had already paid for the previous night. It took forever to resolve and the desk was confrontive and exceedingly cool. It was almost 7pm and I finally agreed to pay for the best hotel going rate for that day. As compensation, I was offered a "very nice room and anything from the minibar at no cost". I have stayed at the Metropole numerous times since I usually fly in and out of Brussels on frequent trips to Europe. The room that she assigned me was the smallest I had ever had there. The wallpaper was in tatters on the wall (Rooom 2017). It was tired but so was I and I did not wish to change rooms for one night, especially since the front desk was so indifferent. I opened the "free" minibar and it was EMPTY. Joy!! The concierge at my request sent up two bottles each of water and beer, all at ROOM temperature. So bad room and a useless minibar and here I am paying for two nights (the first night at a great Sunday rate to be fair.) Heretofore I had received courteous service and nice rooms at the Metropole although nothing special. This time the front desk (including check-out) and the room were unpleasant and disappointing. Not what one expects, especially paying for two nights but using only one.

This was a great hotel, and a real value for the money. Excellent location in terms of metro/tram access and proximity of fine restaurants. Baroque public spaces were fascinating and elegant. As a physical scientist, I was pleased to see pictures of Curie, Einstein, and others who attended the first Solvay Conference, held in the hotel in 1911.

Excellent hotel with perfect location. Every easy access to the center within 10min working distance. We had some problem with the mini-bar and the bath room, after informing the hotel staff, the problem was solved within 15min which was really surprising. The only thing was not really satisfied was the breakfast, anyway, still a good hotel to recommend.

Except for two points, everything was first class. The first point is that the 'classic' lift near the reception area did not always respond. Operational instructions in English would be helpful. A visitor may not know if the access card is needed for the lift operations to function. The second and more important point was the confrontational attitude of the young lady at the reception during check-out on 11/04/14. She kept on insisting that I was wrong in saying that I had already paid the city tax when I checked in. A more pleasant approach is required to avoid losing return-customers. Barring these points I would also give a rating of 10 for welcoming, staff competence, and quality of service.

Excellent, beautiful old style hotel with very discreet, polite and professional staff. You feel genuinely welcome. We found a great value for two nights through a web search. Make sure you go for an option with breakfast included as they tend to be very expensive in Brussels. Parking can be a headache: The Metropele offers a valet service: the valet will either park your car in front of the hotel if there is space (for free) or in the parking place for 25 euros. We were lucky and got the free parking. The Metropole has a great central location next to Brouckere station so there is a direct metro line to the European Commission area. It is within a walking distance from the Grand Place and close to the busy shopping area. The surroundings are not exactly beautiful but the the hotel interior will make up for this.

Extremely friendly and competent staff (a small problem was solved immediately and without any hassle), lovely and very spacious room, excellent breakfast, very central location. The brasserie provided us with a light (and excellent) supper when everything else in Brussels had already closed down for the night. Beautiful 19th-century decor in the public areas, which alone is worth a visit to the hotel. In short, everything we wanted.

BED BUGS! We were covered in bites after our two nite stay. At first I assumed it was mosquitoes, as we had the windows open (no air conditioning), but I only ever saw one mosquito! Hotel was under construction - hallways dirty and cluttered although the suite itself appeared clean and spacious. Free beverages in the mini bar, but it wasn't restocked for the second night! Restaurant closed during our stay. Concierge helpful, but otherwise staff were arrogant and unfriendly. The location was good, but overall a very unpleasant stay and I don't think it warrants the five stars it has been given.

The room allocated was much smaller than what I have experienced at hotels of similar rating. My overall impression was tarnished on the final mornimg when the cooked breakfast was cold. The food was taken away by the waiter to be reheated but you can imagine that one's appetite is not enhanced when presented with cold scrambled egg first thing in the morning.I reported this to the receptionist on departure but my wife and I were still charged a steep 25 euros each for a completely unsatisfactory meal. As you are aware I have regularly used Venere hotels and would recommend that this hotel be removed from your list. It certainly could not compare with it's namesake in Venice.

A luxurious stay at the price of a youth hostel - amazing! Unfortunaltely staff treats you by the price you payed.

A good, old fashioned hotel, but in a less than great location. Rooms were modest in size (ours was a "superior" double), only one chair. Dining room very opulent, food good, service OK. Public rooms were very grand.

Do not believe in any discounts. Breakfast was not included (no information on a web page), a view by the window: a wall. For this price I ca not be satisfied.

Receptionist insisted that we should pay 125 euro instead of 99 euro, after we showed him the confirmation e-mail from Venere, he did not even apologise for his mistake. Room itself and cafe were nicem but charging internet over10 euro a day is too much!

Metropole is a 3 star hotel with a 5 star attitude. Description says "recently renovated" which means that spa is closed, and only some rooms redone. Mine wasn't. Breakfast buffet at 25€ extra is minimalistic served in basement. Internet is 28€ extra per day. That being said, location is good and the hotel works, it just doesn't live up to the standard it's pretending to have.

You don't actually see any of the employees and, those who you do, are never kind.

Good surprise: our booking was upgrated and we had a deluxe room instead of a standard one. Good bargain on Venere.com: more than 1/2 the regular price. Very attending and kind staff, gorgeous hotel in the very center of brussels (3 min away from the Grand' place).

A grat hotel with great location, and very nice prices during the week-end. Grand Place is 5 minutes away on foot, an Place St. Catherine less than 10 minutes. Great value for money if you can get a week-end discount.

Poor breakfast. Some trouble with the fancy, but old fashioned lift. Arrogant people at the reception: they wanted to charge us 30 euros more without any reason, and did not even apologize when they realized they were wrong.

We stayed 1 night in a small group. The location was good and the rooms were nice and quiet. Traditional Belgian interior decoration was gorgeous. Everything was satisfactory except the concierges and the too long waiting time to check-in and check-out. The concierges gave us false information on opening hours of shops nearby, different answers about the route to the airport, etc. but didn't say sorry. We paid more than 200 Euro per one single room and we felt it was too expensive for the service we received.
