We enjoyed a wonderful three day stay at Hotel Locanda Milano. The owners were very professional and welcoming. We felt at home! We especially enjoyed the breakfast and the nice Aperitivo in the evening. We would definitely recommend this family run hotel for a great place to get away from the city and enjoy a slower pace of life!

A lovely hotel and fabulous staff, situated in a delightful place - unbelievable views. It was a little noisy in the mornings but quiet overnight. We will definitely return and would recommend this hotel to anyone!

We were very happy staying at Hotel Locanda Milano, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast excellent, with choice of juice, yogurts, cereals cold meats/cheese and brioche/bread tea/coffee we also ate there in the evening and enjoyed our meal of local specialities. The room was comfy and had all we required. I managed to leave my new linen top in the wardrobe, but the staff kindly took it to a place in Como where the landlady from our apartment in Menaggio was able to collect it.

Beautiful area to stay in and very friendly service. As other reviews on this accommodation have noted, it is not the quietest of places on a Sat night due to the restaurant below the rooms, however it was all part of the experience and if you can view it as such then it is fine. The Sunday night we stayed it was nice and quiet. Stunning views from the room we stayed in. Food and wine in the restaurant was fantastic and very reasonably priced.

I stayed at Locanda Milano for a weekend this October. The airline had just lost my bag and they were very helpful in helping me retrieve it. The hotel is family owned and operated and has a great italian feel to it. It isnt located in Como technically but is at the top of the Funicolare (lift) in Brunate, which is a very nice and quiet town at the top of the mountain, 7 minute lift ride from Como at the bottom. Good breakfast and dinner and a great bar. The people running it were great, one of the owners even let me borrow his personal iPod charger so I could charge my iPhone since mine was in my lost bag. The room was big for euro standards as was the bathroom. Overall fantastic experience and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Lake Como. Warning, not all the staff speaks english (not that I would expect anyone to speak anything other than their native language), but just throwing that out there. Communicating with them was not hard though.

We liked this place and would return. The room was fine (and big enough - so often they aren't)and the bed comfortable. The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. The food was good and we ate well. It was very easy to get from Brunate to Como (with a funicular that took seven minutes and ran every quarter of an hour) and it made a pleasant change to abandon the car completely. The only note of caution is that the hotel has limited parking and on-street parking seemed to be reserved for residents. It wasn't a problem in September but might be in high season.

An excellent place to explore Como and its surroundings. It is located just 500 meters from the lake shore, but vertically!!!. Luckily, the hotel is a few steps away from the funicular, which makes very easy to reach Como, leaving your car at the hotel

Reasonably priced pleasant family-run hotel in the hilltop village of Brunate. In summer, the temperature remains reasonable compared to Como below. No views from the hotel rooms, however. Easy access by foot via the Como-Brunate funicular railway (which runs every day until late) - the hotel is just a hundred yards from the terminus. The room was quite small with a small leaky shower. Friendly staff, but very noisy often until quite late as there is a restaurant and bar in the hotel.

Was great little hotel, away from the bustle of Como town (but easy to get to town). Could become a little noisy at night from excited restaurant patrons (watching the soccer), but nothing too late. Nice place to stay.

Excellent hotel! Great view, great price. Be warned on two things: if you do not speak Italian, you will have a tough time here. Also, if you drive there, the road is extremely narrow and is 2-way traffic; I recommend taking the funicular up the hill to Brunate. A few employees spoke English, and all the staff were as friendly as could be. The food in the restaurant was top-notch.

This small taverna turned out to be the main bar of the village. It was very noisy all evening, even when the bar had closed. Traffic went past all night. The room was barely a single room - definitely not a double. The small double bed was up against a wall on one side. Very poor value. The only redeeming feature was the helpful staff and good food in the restaurant. To sum up - don't stay here if you want a restful and peaceful night!

Excellent staff, very good service and warm atmosphere during the whole staying. Parking lot very small, but the staff took care of parking and were very helpful when driving in and out. The road to the place was an experince, just take the right road and it is still nice. We once took by mistake an alternative way and it was a bit challenging. The restaurant and the bar were good.

I would totally come back to this B&B. Only two things about this B&B didn't meet our needs. No healthy internet connection and the ceiling in the bathroom showed signs of mold due to poor moisture ventilation. everything else was great.

We were in Lake Como area in mid-Oct'07 and stayed in Hotel Locanda Milano located in Brunate village; Brunate is above Como town and overlooks the whole Lake Como area. We booked the hotel via this website after we saw the good price and was intrigued by the comments made by visitors. It was not easy to find the Hotel despite the directions given. The medium-size Hotel is more like a Bed & Breakfast place. The rooms & bathrooms were small but clean. It was basic with small TV, closet, table & chair. Our rooms faced the road, & when we open the windows, it was noisy in the evenings, with cars driving by and the restaurant downstairs having late guests. We didn't mind so much as we enjoyed the Italian festive atmosphere. The Hotel was pretty & cosy. The staffs were warm & friendly. Apparently the restaurant also belonged to the Hotel and it was popular with the locals there. When we got in on the first night, we ate dinner there and we found the food & wine to be truly delicious & fantastic. The Hotel is also located very close, only 2-3 minutes walk, to the Funicular train that goes directly to Como town and lake. So we parked our car at the Hotel & took the Funicular to Como town; we spent the whole day there and returned to Brunate by the same train. However, the car drive up to Brunate was kind of thrilling and quite hair raising! The roads were narrow and the locals tend to drive fast, despite the hair-pin bends. But when we got up there, the fantastic view of Lake Como area was worth it.

Don't be confused by the map. This hotel is way up the road, near the end. The overall time is not that long, 10 minutes, but more than the few curves they show on the map. The little village is nice to wander with little lanes. It was too foggy for us to use the finicular the day we were there but on a nice day it would give great views. The bathroom was quite tight. Staff very friendly and helpful.

The hotel and staff were wonderful. We travelled from Milan Bergamo airport by car(approx 1hr trip) negotiating the road up to Brunate!!!Once we had parked we didn't move the car.The staff we very helpful and very family oriented. The location is fantastic along with the view from the village. The railway down to Como is only a couple of minutes walk, transporting you to the waters edge at Como. From there you can walk to Como(a couple of minutes), or catch the ferries up the lake. The breakfast and the evenings meals were wonderful. The rooms was smallish but very clean. We came back to the hotel mid afternoon to have a drink at the bar where we treated like family. If we were going back to see Lake Como we would stay at Locanda Milano again.Staying in Brunate made the experience because you felt away from the bustle Como city, yet so close to it. Definitely travel to see Bellagio. Our Como experience was made brilliant by staying at Brunate and at Locanda Milano.

Hotel has its own little free parking-place. The funicular to Como is wonderful (we walked down 1 1/4 hours and went up with the funicular in 7 minutes). Nice view from Brunate on Como and the lake. Como is a really worth visiting (old buildings, elegant shops, Duomo, lake with restaurants).

A perfect location for our combination business/pleasure trip to Como. Brunate offers fresh air, great views, interesting architecture and easy connection to Como's lakeside via the funicular, a short walk from Locanda Milano 1873. The hosts at the locanda were warm and informative, and the food and wine in its pleasant restaurant were memorable. The bar, outdoor garden and small street on which the hotel sits appear capable of generating some late night noise, especially in the summer, but for us it simply underscored the family and neighborhood charm of the place. We would happily return.

There is no shuttle from the train station. We wasted time calling for a pickup. No air conditioning, so we closed the window when the trucks started at 5 AM. The bed was small, but too big for the room. The location is good, nice sunsets. The breakfasts were good. The internet service is dialup, but reliable.

We were quite unlucky as our room was above the hotel's bar. It was very noisy until the football match was over in the evening and even more noisy early in the morning as they replayed it. I guess this is the charm of Italy :-) The rest was Ok, good breakfeast.

This is a really nice little hotel in the only place that I would stay in the immediate Como area. The rooms were clean and normal for Europe. The shower was a hot, then cold, then hot in the morning, but that was about the only bad thing to say. Brunate is a nice escape from Como, is quiet, and it a great ride up on the funicolare. Be sure to eat at the little restaurant at this hotel. I was in Italy for 15 days this time and it was some of the best food that we had anywhere on the trip. I'll have no problem booking here if and when I return to the Como area.

Lovely people, superb food and wine. We were there at the end of October and were the only guests for most of our stay. Not easy to find the way up to Brunate from Como and once there, it is a lot easier to use the "Funicolare" to get back down to Como than to take your chance on the road which, to say the least, is "interesting"

From the first moment of arrival the welcome and service from Frederico and Maximo were excellent. They absolutely made our holiday and went out of there way to accommodate our needs. The Hotel was in one word fantastic. All facilities, as mentioned on the website, are there. The personnel is very competent and helpful (even if you don't master the Italian language). The parking facility was sufficient (but then again we visited the Hotel at a non-touristic moment in time); in case the parking facility is full, you always have the possibility to park your car in the surroundings of the hotel without any charge.
