My husband and I travelled by Eurostar to Brussels for one night then Bruges for two nights. This hotel is a lovely, traditional, quirky and charming place right on the canal and very close to the Burg and Markt. We had a beautiful view of the canal from our room and enjoyed breakfast each morning in the restaurant which also overlooked the canal. We wanted to stay somewhere that gave us a real sense of place - rather than a uniform international chain hotel - and this certainly fitted the bill. It's a little time-worn in places and full of interesting antiques which only add to its charm.

The staff & location were great. The room unacceptable. Filthy, torn carpeting in our room & in the public areas on both 1st & 2nd floor. Stains, rips, holes etc. Our room #15 had holes in the wall where a night stand once hung, the window treatments strings broken so unable to raise or lower. Some TLC & maintenance would turn this lovely little hotel around. Couldn't think of recommending the hotel in it's present condition to friend or foe. Wish I'd taken a few photos to show I'm not exaggerating.

We stayed here for 2 nights mid August. We drove and trying to find the hotel was a nightmare. Thank god for odd street signs as the directions from google were awful. The hotel is in a cobbled square and we were able to pull up outside the hotel, dodging market stalls/people sitting outside cafes and pedestrians to drop our bags off, then were directed to the Astrid car park where we paid 13.40 euros I think for the two nights. Car park was very secure and had no qualms about leaving the car there. The location of the hotel is fabulous - right by the canal and in the centre of everything. The check in was great, receptionist very helpful and friendly - we stayed in a room 16 on the top floor. I wanted something quirky and I got it! Views from windows were lovely of the Belford and canal. We overslept the first night and my husband went down for breakfast and the restaurant staff kindly prepared a tray of goodies for me to be brought up to the room. Very nice touch, they didn't have to do that. The dining room is beautiful and the real draw of the hotel. Beautiful views of the canal and the town. The only noise was from other guests coming and going and that was just the doors closing so no complaints there. We did have to sleep with the windows open as there was no air conditioning but the area seemed to quieten down by 10.30pm ish and so it was quiet during the night. I would stay here again and recommend this hotel if you want somewhere 'non starndard', it's lovely.

Unfortunately it was very short stay (only 1 night) but it was not my first trip to Bruges and hotel (surroundings, general atmosphere, beautiful views) became the best impression. I wish I spent hours sitting in a restaurant and enjoying the view!
