Okay. By request we got another room, which was correct: clean, tidy and light as expected form a 4* hotel. HOWEVER first we were given a room that was a SHAME (just other side on the same corridor): DARK (small window shadowed by tree), SMELLY (stinky from the bathroom) and DIRTY. Felt horrible. I knew it and the receptionist knew it too, as she cjanged the room (LUCKY this time) without a single word or question. What were they thinking???? Go to a international chain instead, for the same price and location. you may not be lucky...

The site is nice and the hotel is quiet. Don;t stay here if you plan to use the nice bar area as the owner silently plopped down with two packs of cigarettes as we were enjoying a drink on our return from dinner. He sat there and chain-smoked, downing shots of something. We quickly finished our drinks and left. I would never stay in this hotel again.

Very nice stay in this hotel very close to the main important monuments and museums. The rooms are comfortable but for a short stay only - a small cup board, an old fashion TV- But people, Boss, secretary, waiters are very nice.

Had to ask Policeman for directions to get there, but that was fault of GPS. Hotel pleasant and comfortable, great position for exploring Brugges. The 'en suite' a bit past its best (some mould on grouting) and bedroom door handle came off. Otherwise satisfactory and I would recommend it to others.

We loved this small hotel. Our room was small and old fashioned but it was only for one night so we did not mind too much, the view we had was amazing looking onto the canel. We had the opportunity to watch the swans and ducks in the early morning come to the garden and feed. The breakfast was great there was plenty to choose from hot & cold. It's a fantastic location only a few minutes walk to the old square. We highly recommend this hotel.

Our first room was shabby and there was little customer service or professionalism from the owner when we requested a different room. We were told if the quality isn't up to our standard for the price then go to the top hotel in town. Nice.

Hotel Azalea was a bit more run down than it looked in the photos. Could be a lot more charming with a little "facelift". A bit of a walk to the town center too. Good buffet breakfast and cute bar.

Nice Staff, the breakfast was more than the average continental, the furnishings in the room were adequate, but if you're looking for a decent price, and decent sized room, this place works great.

This was the first time we have stayed at The Hotel Azalea. Although the bedroom carpet was a bit tired, everything was very clean and I found the staff [especialy the gentlman who welcomed us] to be very friendly. The breakfast and tourist information at the hotel was also very good. I will be happy to stay at this hotel again . The slightly down thing was having to pay for parking, but it was nice to have my mini-bus under cover and off road.

This was a great value for money stay, and we were pleasently surprised with the quality and size of the room. It had a separate sitting area, and writing desk, overall it was one of the biggest rooms we stayed in during our trip. The only drawback was how hot the room was as there seemed to be no fan or cooling except for opening the windows, which made it a little noisy as we faced the street. Breakfast was also fine, and served in a quaint little room. Overall staff were very helpful and friendly, and it was in a great location a few blocks from the market sqaure. We loved our stay in Brugge, it's a great lively city with lots to see and do, and seems good value for money compared to other areas of Europe.

The Hotel was in a very quiet location, close to bus terminal and only 500 mt. from the Markt, medieval city center, and Brugge is so wonderful that a little walk is very pleasant. The bedroom was a little bit careless, but bathroom was renovated from not long ago. Great beakfast. A very good stay.

Our stay in the Azalea was a major disappointment. There is no way that this hotel should be considered a 4-star hotel. The room was very small and sparsely appointed. The first room we were shown had a dirty toilet seat, and the hotel did move us to another room. The photos of the rooms on the website are apparently of rooms in the plusher forward part of the hotel (maybe 9-10 of their rooms), but most of the rooms are in the rearward, mush less plush section. We were in Europe for three weeks; the room at the Azalea was the most most expensive, and the worst, of the three weeks.

Noise isolation very bad in the hotel - people walking in hallways sound as if they're inside the room. Also sounds from the outside are disturbing at this hotel.

Nice hotel, the staff all spoke some semblance of English and the room was spacious, quiet and clean (a lot like the rest of Belgium). It was a good temperature, even at night and the bed was comfy (and only a bit squeaky when under strain!) Breakfast was a wide variety of cereals and bacon and egg and toast and preserves. Served from 7 until 10, which is good if you're packing or sleeping-in. They gave us a booklet of local restaurants when we got there. We didn't happen to use the other services of the hotel, but they kept our case in an unused room all day for us after we checked out, which was nice. There are signs for the hotel on many streets of Bruges, but the one-way system looked like a nightmare from our position on the pavement. We went by boat and bus, with a taxi from the station.

We had a great stay at the Azalea--the maps to the hotel were very helpful and relatively easy to follow. The location was excellent because it is a few blocks off a well-travelled street so it was very quiet--yet, we were in the center of town. The staff of the hotel were gracious and very accomodating--always giving directions and recommendations when we asked. I would recommend this hotel, and when I travel to Bruge again I would stay at the Azalea.

My wife and I spent a very nice 4 days in this hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good with plenty to chose from. Our room ( number 6 ) had a canal view and a big comfortable bed, the only downside was the carpet which had seen better days. All in all we were pleased with this friendly well run hotel with its location convenient for visiting the wonderful city of Bruges

We stayed at the Azalea for 3 nights and loved it. The location is a short walk to the Markt and convenient to the train station. The owners and staff were very helpful and friendly, speaking both French and English. They gave us a lot of information about Brugge and what to see and do. The room was a good size, charmingly decorated, and clean. The bathroom fixtures were modern and everything worked! Breakfast was included and offered a variety of eggs, cheeses, meats, cereals. I highly recommend the Azalea.

The hotel and staff are lovely. The only thing that I would say is that we ordered a triple room but due to a mix up we got a double and a single for the same price, which was not a problem. However, although the double room was great, the single room was a bit dated. It was still a very enjoyable stay though.

There is no way this hotel should rank as 4 star. It was very disappointing. The facilities are old, run down or broken. The map was deceiving as to proximity to centre although Bruges is small so distance was not a major problem. This experience will also make us dubious about other recommendations for other cities.
