About Hotel Boston Buckminster

exterior - entrance Hotel Boston Buckminster exterior - entrance Fancy staying at one of the first hotels built in the Boston area and designed by famous architect Stanford White? The Boston Buckminster offers great gay-friendly downtown Boston hotel accommodation at reasonable prices. Located not far from Boston University where Beacon Street crosses Brookline Avenue, the Boston Buckminster Hotel makes the top of the list in terms of value-for-money accommodation in the area.

Don't be fooled by the 1-star-rating, this Boston hotel far exceeds expectations not only in terms of cleanliness and standards, but also thanks to extensive guest services such as a laundry room and kitchen on each floor, as well as a wake-up service provided by a team of 24-hour staff dedicated to making sure your stay in Boston is as stress-free and smooth-running as possible.

The local area is bursting with cute restaurants and cafés for you try, however on site dining spoils you for choice. If you're feeling like some Italian cuisine go down to Pizzeria Uno. For a taste of the East pop, choose the Maluken Japanese/Chinese fusion Restaurant. Points of interest easily accessible from the Boston Buckminster Hotel include the Museum of Fine Arts, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Museum of Science, Fenway Park and the Fleet Center (home of the Boston Celtics and Bruins), Longwood Medical Area, Newbury Street, Faneuil Hall, Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Ballet and the Wang Center for the Performing Arts.

Breakfast is somewhat lame: Toast, cream cheese, jelly and cereals was all that was available - no changes the time we stayed there. The use of disposal cutlery and dishes made it look even cheaper.

Good location, close to the underground, easy to find if you arrive by car, parking area next to the hotel (very confortable, but you have to pay for it), we had a free upgrade of the room, having a large and spacious suite (except for the bathroom, so small!). Good breakfast included.

When we arrived from London the hotel had overbooked and almost had to send us to another hotel, not a good start. Mediocre cramped room, very mixed customer service depending on who was on the front desk, the lift had a mind of its own. Don't be fooled into thinking the mention of kitchens on each floor is any use - you have to bring your own utensils if you want to use these. Taking all this into account and the sound of a couple gettin' jiggy in the next room I wish I'd splashed out an extra few dollars and stayed somewhere else.

Old - but a nice clean room and a very friendly staff. Would stay at Buckminster if I should visit Boston again!

Location great close to train. Room spacious we were upgraded to a two room. Dark and depressing, sink in room had pieces of cabinet broken and missing, dark and dingy, dark carpeting, poor lighting, furniture old and flimsy, nothing to soften room ie ottoman, photos on wall etc. Freezing could now raise temperature with individual thermostats. Covers were thin, sliding polyester type. Bathroom very small. Very dated, needs a serious facelift.

It is not so central, one needs some time to get to city center. Plus - a lot of fruit for breakfast.

If you're going to Boston to see a Red Sox game, the Buckminster is a hidden gem. It's steps away from the park - from many rooms you can see the Green Monster and the Citgo sign from the window! But it's a fraction of the price of most hotels in the area. The rooms and bathrooms are immaculate, and the desk staff is very helpful and friendly. Rooms are small and there are no extras like a bar downstairs, but for the money and location you cannot beat it. Only gripe: we expected wireless internet access and there was none. The hotel has a system but it was so weak as to be useless, plus if it had worked it would be very expensive, like $1/minute. Other than that, it was great. Highly recommended for out of town Sox fans!

This hotel is a wonderful place to stay. Location is perfect - walking distance to the subway, Fenway Park, museums, shopping, restaurants etc. We even took the subway to the airport for $2.00. This was our second stay there and will definitely stay again. We were upgraded to a suite - no extra charge. Nice buffet breakfast included in the price. There is even a kitchen on every floor. This hotel should be rated higher than it is. The employees are wonderful. The only thing it lacks is a pool. Another great trip!!!

You know, I read the reviews of the Buckminster before we booked, and I was a bit nervous seeing it rated as a one or two star hotel. I don't get it; what are people thinking? The hotel is older, but what character this building has! The rooms are classic, the foyer and corridors are winding and architecturally interesting. To be honest, we were waiting for the surly staff to appear as we had read, but there was nothing but smiles and immediate sorting of any issues that turned up over the week we spent there. We were going to two shows at the House of Blues, which turned out to be around the corner (I mean a two minute walk!) which was very convenient for our slightly inebriated state after the Dropkick Murphys and the Pogue shows. Fenway Park is also two minutes away, (great tour!), so the hotel would be great for a Red Sox game as well. We did see a Celtics game, so the convenient location to the Green Line subway was fantastic to get downtown quickly. The sushi restaurant in-house and the great taverns and eateries close by made eating and drinking a true vacation pleasure. If you like cheap but delicious Mom and Pop places, check out the Busy Bee restaurant and O'Learys down Beacon Street, and the Otherside Cafe for any vegetarians or really healthy food oriented vacationers ( eventually you do want something green!). Shopping for clothes isn't our thing, but for those who want to, Newbury Street seems to be pretty popular and it's really close by. Look, I don't know if those reviews came from 'hotel snobs" who expect everything to be perfect, but for the the great location, the price, the facilities and the staff, we couldn't, have done better than the Buckminster!
