Excellent location on quiet side street in very upscale area. Close to shopping, sights, and restaurants. Owners were very nice and helpful. Tiny room and bath, but overall comfortable and clean. Wired computer access wouldn't work on American laptops.

Room is wide and clean, but no dryer. Next building is now under construction in October 2009(I think it will be take few years), after 7:30AM you cannot sleep well. Shower is powerful, hot, really satisfied. You could find Calfour (famous super market) just in front of this hotel, good and famous cheese shop is located same block, and first floor of this hotel is HugoBoss.

The only possible negative to our stay at the Hotel de France might be the small room. I noted, however, that according to the floor plan posted on the door, ours (#201) was larger than most! The location, the staff, the ambiance--all were excellent. The two short blocks' walk to the Jet Bus stop (airport shuttle)was a real plus.

Clients looking for clean and comfortable accommodation in a central area with en suite facilities. Accommodation suitable for clients looking for a short stay. The managers offered a good service. Hotel De France is in an excellent location.

Location excellent, being close to the city centre, but quiet, up a side street. Breakfast was deliciously french. The proprietors were welcoming and friendly. They happily stored our baggage for our very late departure after checkout on our last day so we could continue to enjoy the beautiful city without carrying it all day. Highly recommended.

very good location. the room was very very very little, no words about the shower. A negative remarks about cleanliness of the room and public areas

The hotel is quite cheap and is ideally located a couple of minutes from the shoppingstreet in Bordeaux. The rooms are very small and the decor is quite old... The bathroom is extremely small and there is only a "closet door" between the bathroom and the actual room. The stairs up to the third floor was very steep and there is no elevator - be prepared to carry your own heavy suitcase! During our stay there were a lot of noise from some work going on in the street, but a few days later we had a room facing the back yard and this was a lot better (allthough the bathroom was even smaller). I may sound very negative, but considering the price it's actually not too bad!

Other reviewers have said that the rooms are very small. I though 'who cares, it's for sleeping, not ballroom dancing'. But it's true, my room was really, really small. If you are a fatso you might not fit in the bathroom. Other than that, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, the location is great, Bordeaux is an interesting city. I would recommend this small, unpretentious hotel for people planning to spend a night or two in the city.

Good value for a centrally located hotel. No big reception area or lounge but perfectly adequate for a place to stay and staff were friendly. Dropping bags off can be tricky as the hotel is in a narrow street used by buses. Recommended.

Fantastic value for money and a great location. I would reccommend this hotel to anyone. Owner's English not great but that was not problem, excellent service and welcome. Rooms are a little small and stairs to top rooms may bother less fit or able but that is no big problem, they are clean and very well maintained rooms. Great stay.

We knew the room would be small, so that was OK (it was REALLY small, as was the bathroom). It was only for sleeping after all, but we did see some larger rooms off the corridor. Clean hotel extremely well situated, and very pleasant, helpful couple running it. Breakfast fine, with good croissants and fruit juices (shame about the TV on all the time). Bordeaux is an attractive city which has been extensively cleaned in recent years to reveal lovely old buildings. Nice to have car-free town centre. Plenty of restaurants to choose from nearby.

Extremely clean facility, very good and friendly service. Recommendations for dinner (Antan Cinema Restaurant) were great. The room was very small but also very clean and functional. Very clean but small bathroom. The walls in the hall and the floor are pure white and provide nice clean feel to the whole facility. Great location and quiet room. There was no elevator and the stairs are a bit steep. This was not a problem for us having only a small suitcase, but might create an issue for other visitors. I would stay there again.

The rooms are small, but perfectly comfortable. The location couldn't be better. You can walk everywhere in Bordeaux from the hotel or easily catch transportation nearby. The staff is very helpful and pleasant. I would definitely stay there again.
United Kingdom, Jan 2009
This hotel is in an excellent location, especially if you catch the bus from the airport as it is a five minute walk away from the drop off and pick up points. The rooms aren't huge and the bathrooms are very small but if you're planning to be out and about then they are perfectly adequate. Breakfast is extra but it's a buffet so you can help yourself to as much as you want and the breakfast room is lovely. The owners are really friendly and overall, this hotel is great value for money.

Central city location enables easy walking access to shops, cafes & information centre, although a little difficult to locate when relying only on GPS. Reception staff helpful. However, no lift or car parking which is available in nearby undergroung public car park. Payment machine would not read my credit card so only coin could be used.

We found the staff very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Cleanliness is first-rate. The white paint provides good light reflection. The hotel is in an excellent situation for sight-seeing and travelling around Bordeaux. We enjoyed our stay very much and will try and use this hotel for our next visit. We too appreciated the decor and paintings.

We were allowed to check in early (we were lucky as our area had already been serviced) - this was offered very readily. Service was prompt, very pleasant and efficient but informal. The breakfasts are lovely - serve-yourself from a pretty and well-stocked kitchen. Central location made everything easy. Parking in underground carpark very close-by - expensive (E16.50 for 24hrs) but that seemed fairly standard in Bordeaux.

Good basic clean hotel room in the centre of the city. Good value considering the location, but don't expect much space or luxury. Also, some may struggle with the steep stairs as there's no lift. All in all though good for budget travelling.

I was there for one night in July 2008, travelling through Bordeaux. Friendly and helpful service; good central but quiet location in town No lift and rooms are all on upper floors, so not too good if you have a heavy bag or mobility problem. My room was clean but basic for the price. Perhaps this was because I was on my own? Shower room floor tiles were badly cracked in one area. Bedroom windows looked out on narrow light well between buildings; leaving window open for ventilation proved a mistake as drain vent was just outside and smell in the morning was v. bad.

Out of 5 hotels that I stayed in in France, this was the one I LOVED. The hotel is beautifully decorated with white walls and tasteful colors, including paintings by the grandmother of the family which runs the hotel which are quite charming. The nicest breakfast was provided in a very pleasant room. Bath and bedroom fixtures and connections worked beautifully and were spotless. AND the price was right! Nice clientele also and a very good location near wonderful shopping. I always felt safe on the streets near the hotel. Very helpful staff with details such as where to find a coin laundry...

This is a very modest small hotel with very small rooms, bed comfortable but very low to the floor,we had a step up bathroom in our room. Very, very clean. The most helpful staff that I've had the pleasure to deal with in quite some time. Absolutely perfect location, right in the "Golden Triangle" area, on a walking only street so very quiet. Price was hard to believe for location. Next trip to Bordeaux will try to stay there again.

convienient location for shops and other areas at a reasonable price. A small hotel, Not an amazing hotel but clean with some charm. An under ground secure public car park at Place de Grand Hommes is 50 yds away. 16 euro per day to park. This hotel is a low cost place, greawt for a short stay, bedding clean, plenty of hot water. As you can tell I was pleased. Hotel staff offered to carry bags up the stairs, no lift.

a brilliant small central hotel,in a smart area.Quite difficult for taxis to find, have your map to hand. The service is good and helpful, the area even though it was rugby semifinals was quiet and well behaved.Outstanding restaurant nearby.Rooms a bit small and that has put some stress on the fixtures and fittings.Be aware if you need to go to the airport it can take a long time by bus or taxi as the motorway is closed during and after accidents,it takes a skilfull and knowledgeable taxi driver to get round this blockage.

The hotel claims to have made recent renovations, yet this is only apparent in the common areas. In our room, the bathroom door knob was missing and the door did not slide in its track properly, the sink drain was broken, and the wallpaper was peeling. The location is excellent.

Excellent value with EXTREMELY helpful staff (they gave great restaurant recommendations). Biggest downside is that the room REEKED of stale smoke. Hotel is tricky to find but proximity to good shopping/eating can't be beat. The stairs might present a challenge to some (our room was up about 6 flights of stairs but we appreciated the exercise after eating so much!).

While our room (Chambre 101) was very small, it was immaculate and tastefully furnished. Our hostess, Beniko, was gracious and helpful, as was her husband, Vincent and receptionist, Francois. Upon our frequent returns from seeing Bordeaux and outlying areas, we were welcomed as friends as well as guests. We would definitely recommend Hotel de France to anyone visiting Bordeaux, with one caveat; inquire about a larger room if there are more than one of you!

This place was FANTASTIC for its price - certainly weren't expecting the awesome location and quality of the hotel and guest service for this price! Highly recommend the hotel and Bordeaux! The tourist information centre in Bordeaux is also very helpful especially with winery tours and there is a great, cheap wine bar across the road from the one in the centre of town!

The hotel is located in the centre-if you come by train, take tram B to the end station and then tram C-one stop, the hotel is about 3-4 min. on foot from there. People were very helpful at the train station to give me directions, there is Espace office that sells tickets for the tram if the ticket machine does not work. The room in the hotel was even nicer than on the photograph, very elegant with beatiful windows and draperies and a nice, modern bathroom. Also the hotel has a very nice breakfast room. Overall I was happy with my stay there, even though I could hear my neighbours talking through the bathroom wall next door, with closed bathroom door it was better. The only minus was that at night my neighbour above woke me up by walking back and forth and making noise (was packing I think), I am not sure whether the floor was not thick enough or the person walked heavily. Still, I would return to the hotel.

We're a family travelling with a little 11 months old baby. First of all we arrived at 2 pm and the personal told us that we must wait at least until 4 pm to get the room because they had some problem with the cleaning service. In the afternoon we go out and nobody told us that we had a code to access to the hotel after 8 pm because it's closed. We´re sucessfull because other persons were going into the hotel at this same moment. In this moment the electricity didn't work and we were without this for two hours. And finally we'had our travel prepared to go at 6 am but it was no possible to pay and to do the check out after 8 pm and before 7:30 am. There was a person that specially came at 6:30 to let us make the check out. Thanks to her to do this for us. The price, situation and quality are very interesting but try to get all information from employees after go out if you don't want to have any problem.

This is a good small hotel, situated in a smart area in the centre of Bordeaux. It is very well priced and our room was small but pleasantly decorated. The only issue is the lack of lift which would mean that anybody with a lot of baggage should be prepared to do some lugging. I would recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a well-situated, cheap, and quite French hotel.

the environment is particularly noisy... all night: people shouting in the street, cars, tram, etc. it was impossible to sleep at all... (the absence of air conditionning made the temperature so high in the room that it was impossible to close the window).

The hotel met all our expectations, however, lack of air conditioning was it's only downfall. We were there in mid July and a/c was definately required. Bathroom was very spacious compared to other hotels in France. Hotel staff were very helpful and spoke very good english. 2 min walk to the main centre of Bordeaux and key shopping streets. 5 min walk to the tourist office. Highly recommend the half day wine trip to Blanye for 23euro pp.

This is a very reasonably priced comfortable hotel in a really great location just off Cours de l'Intendance. The area has restricted access for cars but the tram from the station goes down Cours de l'Intendance. Although the hotel rooms are a bit small they are very pleasant with french windows and flower baskets. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful. The old buildings in the area are beautiful and there is great shopping!

I really cannot fault the Hotel De France, the management made us feel very welcome and were more than helpful with any questions we had. We had a wonderful stay, it was sadly tarnished a little by attempts to get back to the airport... There was little or no information available in the city that we could find on the buses out to the airport and while the hotel quoted us about e20 to get to the airport the journey was over e30, i'm also fairly sure that they passed a sign or two for the airport. Never the less, the trip was excellent, the hotel was in a great location, and was in great condition. Ten out of ten! And a BIG thank you for the help!

Bordeaux is small, so anywhere in the city is close to everything. It was very easy to access this city on the Tram. The hotel is quite small, as are the rooms. I would not recommend these beds to tal people, as even my feet were sticking off the bed a bit (I'm 5' 6''). It was certainly noisy at night, but the man at the front desk assured us that that was not a usual occurence. He did not, however, offer anything to make up for my lack of sleep. Overall, the hotel seemed nice, but I was only able to sleep for three hours before a long day of travel. Perhaps I would have had a better review if it hadn't have been for the noise.
