Relative to other Italian cities and even Bologne the Zanhotel is very good value, clean pretty quiet and well located I would stay there again. As with most hotels the double room is not spacious but good enough.

Because work in progress in hotel Regina we received a room from hotel Tre Vecchi (juste next to the Regina) which is a four stars hotel. Price very good for the location. Nice hotel (even if a little bit "old").

A Zanhotel survey asks me to recommend an audience for its hotel in Bologna. I find this hard to do because I cannot imagine any traveler who would be unhappy with the experience of staying there. The hotel is well-located for sites of historic and artistic interest as well as being surrounded by a variety of restaurants. It is certainly not a luxury hotel, but its rooms and services are comparable to those of much more expensive establishments.

Great hotel + fantastic value. The location was excellent – right in the heart of Bologna with easy access to the main train station. The service offered was very good, though I would have liked to have had internet access. The only issue was really that you could more or less hear everything that went on in the neighbouring rooms – not great. Besides this, I would definitely stay here again, should I be going back to Bologna.

Good stay, quite cheap but not exactly the cheapest. Choose it if you want something simple, good, near the center and the railway station.

Spent 4 nights at Zanhotel Regina in march 2009. We have travelled frequently in Italy and this hotel is one of the best on basis of value for money. Room 353 adequate and clean, soundproofing ok, breakfast fine, location excellent. Yes: the shower is the smallest this side of a ww2 submarine's. No: the market noise did not disturb us. Hotel café/sidewalk terrace pleasant. Of course there's always something that could be improved, but to all these people bitching about things being better at home I'd like to put the question: Then why travel at all? There should always be a touch of the exciting unknown whem you travel - if not, better stay home.

First time in Bologna, on this occasion for a weekend break. I was very impressed with the Hotel Regina - the staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The room was comfortable and well appointed. The location was excellent - easy to find (right on the main street, very convenient for airport transfers; close to the main attractions of the city and close to lots of good restaurants. I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to others. Great value for money too.

The hotel Regina is very well situated in Bologna and reasonable in cost. Breakfast and service by bar staff good. Reception not welcoming at first, nor very helpful. But excellent hotel to which I shall return, and which I have recommended to friends.

We found the perfect quality vs. price relationship. Excellent service , perfect location, quiet and yet right in the center, good breakfast included, very clean room and bathroom, all at a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend.

The folks from the bar next door like to come outside to smoke and sing. It seems like a lot more people smoke in Europe than in the States. Bring your earplugs. Still, it was a very nice stay.

The instructions about how to get to the hotel from the station are not very helpful. You need to cross the road in front of the station, turn left and walk down to the next major junction. Then turn right up that street. It is quite a distance with luggage. Otherwise I thought it was very good and good value.

We had a triple room which was clearly a smokers room and smelt of stale cigerettes which was disgusting. The rooms could have been far cleaner generally but the smoke did not help. Reception had an awful musty smell and was totally unwelcoming. We were only in Bologna for 2 days and really, the hotel let us down.

Not a bad hotel, but it's clearly seen better days. The communal areas appear to be in a better state of maintenance than the rooms and corridors which looked a little tatty in comparison to most of the places we've stayed in Italy. Not having visited Bologna before I didn't get a great sense of the location from the map on the website. The circle seems to be centred on the station area and not the old town/basillica square - which is surely the heart of Bologna? However that does make the location a convenient compromise if you're arriving by train. It's a relatively short walk from the station and then a little closer still to that historic square, just at the top of the street the hotel is situated on. The Italian breakfast was pretty good - with plenty on offer to help yourself to. We found dining in this city nicknamed 'the fat' slightly disappointing, but that's possibly because - as in most places in Italy - during August many places are shut, which possibly made the place seem a little less vibrant than it is at other times of the year. Bologna's medieval buildings and miles of terraced arcades are wonderful for all that.

The desk and colazione staff were great. Location was excellent being close to the train station. Nice shady area in front for caffe and drinks. We were there on two separate weeks and had two rooms: the first was on Indepenza and was noisy but the second was in the back and very quiet. Air conditioning could have been more effective, but it was very hot outside. We would stay there again.

It was in a great location for walking to various sites and shopping. Easy to reach from the train station! The hotel was suitable for our needs. The shower was very small. The hotel staff didn't go out of their way to help us in any way as we experienced in all the other hotels in Italy. They weren't rude though just not as friendly and helpful.

Great location - right in the heart of Bologna. The hotel was lovely and warm. We had a super breakfast served in our room. We usually stay at Tre Vecchi hotel located just next door - same hotel group but 4 star - the only difference is the price Regina is €83 and Tre Vecchi €130.00! Only downside is that we requested twin room in our booking but there was none available when we arrived. Also a few things in the room not working - side table and wardrobe door. Note car parks costs €20.00 for the night.

Very comfortable business hotel within easy walking distance (10 minutes) with luggage from train station. Also 10 minutes from city center. Just off a busy main street but surrounded by excellent, reasonably priced restaurants and just a few blocks from the more local student areas. Excellent breakfast with fresh juices, fruit, meats and cheese, pastries, and coffee by order.

A disappointing return visit to this hotel: very small single room with no natural light. The location of the hotel is good - an easy 10 min walk to the main square or the railway station, and handy for the airport bus - but it was overpriced for the quality of the accommodation offered.

Others have noted the size of the showers -- yes, they were small (think of showering in a phone booth), but we found the water pressure excellent, and the creativity of solving a space issue great. This was a very nice hotel and very close to the train station and restaurants. If you want to be located right downtown this is a good choice and staff is very nice. There is a Brassarie right downstairs and in the AM can get coffee and danish, and in the afternoon wine or cocktails. We are also very impressed with this website and will recommend to others. We used your referrals and booked reservations at 4 different locations during our 3 week travels in Europe. Thank you so much! D. and P. Michalski- Orange County, CA USA
