The bed I had was very hard and uncomfortable. I had to put two blankets on it just to be able to sleep. The shower is also tiny -- kept bumping my elbows every time I turned around. The breakfast is nice. Good selection of pastries, cereals, yogurts and jams. They make you coffee/cappuccino per request.

to see a concert in Bologna...If you travel with Ryan air ...you have to walk a quite a bit from the main terminal to check in the luggage and it was raining so you end up soaked. As for the hotel the worst thing is that lots of students underneath the hotel will not let you sleep .however everything else was great

The staff here are terrific. They speak English quite well and have been very helpful to us. The room is clean & comfortable. We have spent a lot of time in our room due to bad weather and the free wifi has been our link to the world. Grazie! The breakfast is superb. Only complaints are TV and a lot of noisy guests one night. I recommend this hotel highly and would stay here again.

This location is great but extremely noisy from bars and pubs on the street below. Noise continued until around 4 am. Hotel advertises that it has air conditioning but there is a sign posted in the room that you are not permitted to turn it on between the hours of 11pm and 7am. It would have been much quieter if we could have closed the windows and turned the AC.

It was me and my husband and we were finishing off in Bologna. After we got to Bologna, we realised the hotel was a one end of the historical end and we ended up being on foot for 15 mins which wasn't fantastic. It was a good hotel. Its a bit noisy as the walls are too thin and the housekeeping starts early. But it was otherwise fine.

This hotel is in the university area so it's very convenient for the station and the main attractions. It's not too hard to find on foot. The surrounding area can be noisy late at night because unlike many Italian cities, the students of Bologna (thank God) stay up late. Good clean rooms and reasonable breakfast.

Excelent location, near of the most important historical and interesting points of the city. It´s near from an important shopping avenue, and just 10 minutes walking to the city center. There are several restaurants and "tratorias" around the hotel, and It looks to be safe at nigth with a lot of young people around, because it is close to the university. Our room was one of them showed on the webpage, and was ok. The only bad thing was the shower...it is really small. Breakfast was good enough in variety and quantity, and the service very friendly.

The stay was just fine--roomy, comfortable rooms with well-functioning air conditioning (important in Bologna in June)--until it was time to check out. Aside from having to guess at internet charges because the system was down (and the clerk's completely lack of arithmetic ability), I had no serious problems. But the young woman behind the desk obstinately refused to let my friend charge internet and other incidentals to his credit card, for reasons I can only guess at (hers made no sense whatsoever)... there was something very strange about the entire situation.

Very pleasant hotel - I will stay there again. Good sound insulation on the windows - in summer time it might be a little loud unless one ran the air conditioner. Great location for being in Bologna - worth taking a taxi for the first trip from the station...the hotel is where two "grids" of streets meet. I needed some extra nights, which was luckily no trouble for the hotel. The price went down on Sunday, actually!

Hotel University is a bit hard to find, but worth the effort. During our 4 week trip to Italy, this was the lowest priced hotel we stayed at, but comparable in quality to the others, or exceeding the others. The room was quiet and roomy enough for 3. Bathroom facilities were fine. Breakfast was good: eggs, sliced meats, cheese, pastries, breads, juices, cereals, The staff spoke excellent English, were willing to converse with me in Italian and offer some pointers. The many excellent museums of Bologna are within walking distance. There is a great inexpensive takeout pizza place a few meters down the road. There is a small elevator.

Good hotel in a very central location within easy walking distance of the sights and not too far to walk (with bags) from the train station (if you don't take a wrong turn or get on the wrong street from the station - ask someone to point you to Via Dell Inipendienza as it's not obvious which one it is). Staff were hepful and the breakfast was good - plenty of choices. Very clean room - I reserved a single and got a much bigger room than the typical single, with a good bathroom. There was a safe in the room, which may not be strictly needed in Bologna (I never felt anything other than safe in this part of Italy and I'm not aware that pickpockets are an issue), but it was nice to have. The neighborhood is busy and a bit noisy, so earplugs are a good idea. Bologna is a dignified and gracious city with lots to see and deservedly famous food (had the best gelato of my trip in a little place around the corner from the University and there are plenty of good restaurants nearby). It's well worth staying there a few days. There's a very good walking tour of the city, reasonably priced - check at the tourist office. A day trip to Ravenna to see the Byzantine mosaics is a must. I would definitely stay at the University again - the price is quite reasonable for a what you get and the location is excellent.

The University is a very nice hotel. THe price we received on Venere was below the market rate and they honored our reservation with no questions. The room was very nice and spacious (the bathroom was huge). There was breakfast downstairs and a little lounge, but our room was so big we didn't need them. The front desk was very helpful and had a great map of the city that was all we needed. Air conditioning and climate control were perfect and responsive. We ate one of our favorite dinners of our whole vacation just a couple of blocks away. For the price we paid, the hotel was an absolute steal and Bologna was a great place to explore in a weekend (when we weren't too busy eating and drinking - everything in the guide books about the quality is true). It is just a short walk from the train station. Once you locate Via Independenza (an insanely busy street), it's about 15-20 minutes.

We found this hotel a little smaller than we had hoped, but perfectly adequate. The rooms were okay, but not very large. Good service but not great, and the breakfast was not as good as we had hoped. They did have h/b eggs (one of which was, unfortunately, a rotten one, but the waitress immediately replaced the entire bowlful that was out on the table). it was certainly quite central and we were able to walk to all the sites we were interested in with ease. The Hotel University was recommended to me by friends who had stayed there in the spring of '05. Overall, for Bologna, it is a good deal and a quality establishment. The breakfast included with the room is good (great self-service coffee/cappucino machine!), though the breakfast room is rather small and can get crowded. My room had been recently redone, and was very pleasant, though the TV and the hair dryer weren't working. Fortunately, I didn't need either. The only real drawback for some guests might be the noise at night from the street and the bar/disco located on the ground floor on one side of the hotel (try to get a room over the hotel's entrance if you want more quiet at night). I had been warned about it by my friends, and with ear plugs, it wasn't impossible. Location is good, in university area, and walking distance to the center.

The room was wonderful--spacious and clean. The bathroom was larger than any other that we had in Italy. The cost of using internet services provided was very lower than at any other hotel we stayed in and the hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. The location was very convenient to walk to the Piazza Maggiore and also very close to the train station. I would not hesitate to stay here again nor to recommend it to anyone I know.

It was very good for this price - clean, fairly large bedroom, friendly and helpful front desk, and good breakfast that is included. The location is very convenient. I will stay there again.

Arriving from Venice by train, the hotel was an easy to find 15 minute walk away. Our room was nicely appointed and the bathroom the largest of the the four hotels on our trip. The rooms fridge did not work and apparently hasn't in a some time. The staff didn't seem interested in addressing the situation. The hotel is located at the edge of the Univesity district within an easy walk of all sites. My biggest complaint was the noise. At night there was constant banging and we couldn't tell (I know this sounds strange) if there was a party next door, in the next building, or in the street. Even at the reasonable price of 75 euros a night, I would probably not stay there again.

The hotel's location is perfect for exploring the historic section of Bologna including the University. Beautiful interior facility and nicely furnished rooms. Breakfast was excellent. Superior accomodations, especially for the price.

This is a nice hotel situated in a central place near Piazza Maggiore and the centre of the town. Our room and especially the bathroom were spacious, cosy and very tidy. Before our journey we had some misunderstandings with our reservations made through Venere, but the problem was solved after contacting directly to the hotel :-).

We felt our stay was quite poor value, but we were unlucky enough to arrive in the middle of an international fair, which meant all the hotel prices were sky-high. When we arrived, there was no space in Hotel University, so we were sent to a 'sister' hotel - 'Hotel Holiday'. This seemed more like an 'Aparthotel' rather than a proper hotel. The quality of the room was not great and I was woken more than once by drunken revellers going past the window. All in all, I would not return.

we really enjoyed our stay, the room was nice the service was excellent and the breakfast was delicious. It was close to the main attractions of Bologna but the hotel was situated near local clubs and bars which made it a bit noisey on a friday and saturday night, but we didnt mind to much as we were awake anyway.

Qiute reasonable prices if you travel in low season. We paid 69 euros but the rooms are not at all soundproof. A lot of noise from the street at night and from other rooms. Couldn`t sleep a wink all night. I would say this is more of a two star hotel. Location is good though.

Good central location. Rooms attractively decorated, and spacious for 3-star Italian hotels. Extremely comfortable bed, and few noise problems. Room kept very clean. Breakfast also better than most I've experienced in Italian 3-star properties. Reception staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. Have no hesitation recommending this hotel. Would definitely stay there again.

Very convenient location close to the opera house which was the purpose for my visit and good value for money. About the best breakfast I have ever had in Italy. I would certainly stay there again if returning to Bologna.

i applied for a one bed room and they reserved for me a double room. I appreciated it a lot. excellent position in a quiet little street but really in the center of the city. Receptionist very kind. But it would be great to provide some no smoking rooms.
