Very beautiful hotel, very clean, the employees were very nice. You have to walk 15-20 minutes to the center but the main shopping streets that leads to the city center are just around the corner.

The wallpaper was peeling off the wall in our room. The furniture looked like cheap items you would buy at K-Mart and put together yourself, the bathroom was covered with moldy spots, and the walls were paper thin. I had to listen to some woman walking around in high heels in another room and later listen to her tv show that she was watching...all while trying to sleep before catching an early morning international flight the following morning. The price should have been 30 Euros or less as far as my room was concerned. This was a one-night stay so there was no time to ask for a better room.

Hotel is in quiet residential neighbourhood behind the train station. Still withing walking distance of city centre and we felt safe in the evening. Our stay was two days. Refurbished bathroom, comfortable bed, quiet area and for 6 euros, the breakfast was very good. We are Canadians living/traveling in Italy for extended period and have stayed in many one to three star hotels. This was good value for the money.

Unfortunately our stay overlapped with a fair so the room price doubled over 3 days. Our room had a small balcony but no drawer space. Room staff very helpful. The provision of hot drink making facilities a nice surprise. Very close to good bus service into centre.

We stayed for 4 nights and it felt like our home from home. The hotel is 5 min. walk to the train station for day trips & 20 min. walk to all the historic sights. Our breakfast was not included in the rate, but we found a lovely cafe on the corner of the Main Road called 'chichib' (coffee & croissant for 4.75) Highly recommended - FANTASTIC VALUE FOR A 4 STAR HOTEL @ ONLY 50.00 Per Night.

The hotel was excellent value for money although at the lower end of the price bracket. It was a good walk into the city centre (15 to 25 minutes depending on your speed) but ideally situated for the station and as we did four trips in seven days, that was perfect for us.

This hotel has been regularly reviewed, and I am happy to agree with the emerging consensus. The hotel is great value: clean, reasonably spacious, quiet (some aircraft noise aside), unobtrusive and effective AC, and a more than reasonable breakfast for your additional €5. You can see the best of Bologna in an afternoon, whereupon you will welcome Il Guercino's proximity to Bologna railway station for easy access to Parma, Ravenna, Modena and Ferrara (strikes permitting). Quibbles: you are on the wrong side of the tracks (literally) but it's a straight road, and 15 minutes' leisurely stroll, to the town centre. And I feel bad trying to think of any others at this price.

Giudizio complessivo: ottimo!!!

A small room but at a very reasonable price. The breakfast was excellent for just an extra 5 euro per day. The location is within easy walking distance of the Railway Station and the main attractions of Bologna.

I stayed here between Venice and Milan, so the price seemed unbelievably low. Room was very small, but clean and well decorated. Great details, e.g., shower was great and even had colored lights on shower head, tv was flat panel, had a pot to make tea. Although small, I really liked the style of the room. We paid extra for breakfast but it was well worth it. Hotel common area seemed nice too, with couches and magazines and an outdoor terrace. Free storage for baggage after checkout was a great service. Everyone at desk was very friendly and helpful. Hotel was not right in main downtown area, but we walked there in probably less than 30 minutes. I think hotel also has bikes to rent. Being close to train station was great benefit. If I had my trip to do over, I would have spent an extra night in this hotel rather than push on to Milan because our experience was so good. Hotel is also located in really quiet area.

We had a fantastic time at hotel Guercino on our recent visit to Bologna. We stayed there with our 8-month old baby and all the staff went out of their way to welcome and help us when my husband needed to send faxes and gave us driving directions. The room was very comfortable, extremely clean and the breakfast excellent and superb value. We would especially like to thank the lovely ladies at breakfast who were extremely helpful and friendly. The location was very convenient for the station and 20' minutes to the centre of town with shops almost all the way. There's a grocer's on the corner, a small pizzaria opposite and a Co-op supermarket 5' min away and parking outside the hotel for 5 euros/day. The decor of the hotel - especially in the lobby - was great fun too. We would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to going back one day!

We absolutely loved Il Guercino. We were sad to only stay for two nights! For me, it was the decor and the service that made the experience. It's hard to explain just how the art and design contribute to the special feel of this hotel, but every detail has been thought out. It's clear that someone has invested much energy and love in the style of each space. In our room, there were lovely ceramic tiles embedded in the wooden floor. We also loved the wooden crib that was provided to us at no charge for our 3-year old daughter. Breakfast was an excellent buffet, wonderful value for the 5 Euro cost. In short, I would recommend Il Guercino, without hesitation, to anyone heading to Bologna. We will definitely be back!

We only spent one night at the Guercino, before our flight home, but were very impressed. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. When we return to Bologna, we will definitely stay here! The hotel is very conveniently located for the train station, and also for a leisurely stroll through one of the many fabulous porticos that lead to the Piazza Maggiore. We loved the eclectic decor, particularly the art works which adorn the hotel! Although the breakfast is not included in the price, it is well worth the additional five euros - this was one of the best buffet selections we had seen in Italy, and for the same cost as we would have paid for a pre-packed bag of rubbishy snacks that was called "breakfast" in a Travelodge in rip-off England! Top marks for the Guercino! P.S. if you are looking for a really good meal at an amazing price, you'd be hard pressed to beat the Belfiore trattoria in Via Marsala - only about ten/fifteen minutes walk away from the Guercino!

Very nice hotel. My only suggestion is that the directions from the train station be clearer. If you take the steps from binario 10 to Via Matteoti, turn left at the top, i.e., at Via Matteoti. I speak Italian, but the directions I got from passersby were to go to the right -- big mistake. Otherwise this place is fine.

WONDERFUL SMALL HOTEL IN A NICE QUIET SETTING JUST A 5 MINUTE WALK FROM THE BOLOGNA CENTRALE TRAIN STATION.OUR SUITE HAD 2 QUEEN BEDS WITH A FULL BATH AND A SMALL ROOM WITH A TWIN BED AND 1/2 BATH. PLENTY OF ROOM FOR 4 OF US.EVERY ONE AT THE FRONT DESK WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND EXTREMELY HELPFUL.THE $5 CHARGE FOR BREAKFAST WAS WELL WORTH IT. We had a triple room (1st floor, above the breakfast room) facing a fenced in "balcony" which was occupied by a window in the cealing of the breakfast room and huge pipes therefore unaccessible. There was one chair, no table or desk and a wardrobe too small to hang trousers or jackets. We tried to change the room offering more money but unsuccessful. The airconditioning was working well. Nice breakfast room. The double rooms are probably alright.

Excellent hotel and staff, the only problem was the distance from the city centre, which we knew was a walk, but it was further than we thought. At least 15 minutes to the centre, longer if you're looking at all the shops and buildings

This is a wonderful hotel. The only problem is with soundproofing between rooms which is, unfortunately, very bad. Everything else exceeded our expectations. Rooms have a terrace and the breakfast was very good. Staff and service were all first rate, friendly and helpful. It's located just outside the outer ring of the city centre in a small street in a perfectly decent neighbourhood, the bit between the station and hotel is a bit grim but access to the centre is easy with a frequent bus, 27, just round the corner and only 5-10 minutes to the Duomo, otherwise about 20 minute walk. There's at least one good restaurant and a several decent local trat/pizzerie nearby and a voguish restaurant next door, also a macrobiotic restaurant nearby. We will stay here again and hope for a more soundproof room. Highly recommended.

Travelled with friend, walk into Bologna would be approx 10-15mins but did take longer as non stop shops all the way into town! Great location for train station, few mins from hotel. The hotel itself was as the pictures on website, very clean, wacky wallpaper but got used to it! Breakfast was good selection of toast, eggs, sausage, croissants, pastries, fruit, cereals etc. Overall a lovely hotel, ideally situated for everything.

A bit more detail on how to get there from train station would have been good. We had a hard time both finding our way and figuring out how far it was (on foot).

Overall, this hotel was a great value. Very handy to the train station, especially using the stairway at the end of track 11. The breakfast was a good deal at 5 euro per person. Only complaint - We arrived on a particularly hot day, and when we got to our room it was 28.6 degrees, since the A/C had been turned off. It took almost 48 hrs for the AC to cool the room to 25 degrees. We finally unplugged the mini fridge, since it was just pumping more hot air, and competing the A/C.

We stayed two nights at Il Guercino. Given the price, I expected something a little more up-to-date. The room decor was very, shall we say, 70s? The bed was not very comfortable and the walls were paper thin. We also had to remind them twice that when we booked, the breakfast was included in the price (apparently this changed in January). Overall, I would not recommend Il Guercino.

Il Guercino is outside the main city centre but within easy walking distance of the train and bus stations. There are town buses nearby that go straight to the city centre and the station. The Piazza Maggiore is about 25 minutes walk away up Via Indipendenza. Rooms are good if not large. Our bathroom was excellent and seemed newly fitted. Storage in the room was a bit limited - one hanging rail only. We had a nice private balcony on the inside courtyard - screened from view and with no view of its own but it was OK to sit on from time to time. There are public balconies as well. Basically the room was quiet, though on our first morning our neighbour in the next room woke us up shouting at 6.30 until we thumped on the wall. They left that day and we heard nothing of the new people. There was some noise from work being done in the courtyard but it did not start too early. The decor is intriguing - hard to describe - some Indonesian elements perhaps. But attractive and different. The bedlinen and towels were very clean; linen was changed after three nights and towels every day. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was adequate though a bit limited and some things tended to run out early. The area around the hotel is mainly residential with a few bars and cafes but very few places to eat. However it is very easy to get into the centre on the bus and take one's pick of the best places in Bologna. The Ristorante Bolognese opposite the Hotel Jolly is excellent. We would recommend Il Guercino and stay there again.

The desk clerks were very helpful and spoke fluent English. The hotel is an excellent value and is only a pleasant 15 minute walk to the town center. The only negative comment is that our room was quite smail and had no windows but rather a glass door that opened onto a common balcony. We had to leave the glass door open in order to get fresh air at night. This caused us some anxiety because of the common balcony.

Quiet hotel on a courtyard, very close to train station and points of interest, but in a quiet non-tourist neighborhood. Someone had a wonderful time decorating this hotel: each floor has a theme; interesting, unique decorative items throughout, especially in common areas. Very helpful staff, most had good English. We were speechless when we saw our room. It far exceeded what we expected! The quirky wallpaper was like something out of Alice in Wonderland to quote our daughter. The heavy glass lampshades on either side of the bed are beautiful but if you look inside them they are thick with dust. But this is the only fault to be found with the room so we'll let you off. The whole hotel has a lovely friendly welcoming feel. Cosy and comfortable on a cold wet October day. We enjoyed our stay and would definately go back.

This was our first visit to Bologna and was only for one day. The hotel was located close to the station and fairly easy to find, although the distance is more like 1000m from the main Cental Railway Station rather than the 500m stated. The hotel reception staff were efficient and friendly. The room and bathroom were clean and appeared recently decorated. The only downside was that the room located onto a small enclosed space with no view, however for a short stay this was not a problem. The breakfast area was pleasant and the breakfast was very good. If eating out the restaurant adjacent to the hotel 'San Ligi' is well worth a visit.

Everything was excellent. Free wi-fi, all clean, great room. Leaving too early, therefore I cannot rate the breakfast.

Great hotel, not far from the city center. Very clean, helpful staff. Walls a little thin - noisy at 3 am.

Despite the area where the hotel is located is not magniful, the hotel aspect was wery good as it has been recently restructured with nice, old-style material. The treatment was anyway not so good as I got a room in an area that was still under restructuring, with things and operators around. By the way what was astonishing me was the fact that, in the morning my bed was invaded by tens of ants! I reported this at the reception and hope they'll solve the problem.

OUR STAY AT HOTEL GUERCINO WAS TOO GOOD, AND THE SERVICES REALLY SATISFACTORY. THE ONLY ONE COMPLAINT IS ABOUT THE RATE PROPOSED BY YOU, THAT FINALLY RESULTS SENSIBLY HIGHER THAN BOOKING DIRECTLY.

everythink was perfect! and to tell the truth, i had booked for a single room , but they gave me a room with two beds, wich was not bad! :) the toilet was extra clean, the shower even had lateral gushes! hte decoration the curtains, the fornitures were all new and well matching together... I used free wireless internet connection from my room... In a word I wish that room was MY bedroom! and what's more for such a low price! extremely recommended!

Il Guercino is a very modern hotel, wonderful and well decorated. There are a lot of details that make it a very special hotel. Our stay was really good and we enjoyed the hotel and the surrounding. Tourist atractions are very close, just 10 min. walking! Certainly we will come back!!

I had to buy a map of Bologna to find the hotel. It's sort of a long walk, okay if your luggage is light and portable.

Il Guercino (Bologna) is a little oasis tucked away in a busy city - close to train station and city centre and good location for restaurants. The staff were extremely professional in all aspects of their role - we will definetely return to the Guercino next time we are in Bologna...the breakfast was great.

We stayed in a room in the new part of the hotel (dependence). The room was very nicely decorated, very comfortable (although on the small side) and rather quiet. We could only hear other guests coming to or leaving their rooms. The bathroom was nice, with a bathtub and jaccuzi, but without a window. Because of this the air was stale and kept an unpleasant odour. Breakfast was rich and tasty and they have also WiFi facility for pay. The vicinity to the main railway station and the old city is very convenient. Excellent value for the money. We will definitely return to the hotel when next in Bologna.

Il Guercino is a nice hotel and the rooms are rather comfortable with a great bathroom. Unfortunately the heating in my room 208 was very noisy, even when turned off. The reception desk said this sound was normal ..... poor guests... I had to use my earplugs.
